Fight Club

Sixteen Republicans voted against the rule on the continuing resolution. Sixteen. I actually thought we would get about eight. Sixteen is a good number. Several of them have other ambitions. Two who surprised me were Phil Gingrey and Jack Kingston of Georgia, who I suspect did not want to get beaten up on the radio tonight on the nation’s most listened to talk station, which | Read More »
Today, House Conservatives Will Prove They Are the Problem
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | March 6th at 04:30 AM |
Yesterday, the White House announced it would stop White House tours in response to sequestration. Congressman Louie Gohmert of Texas responded by offering an amendment to the pending continuing resolution that would prohibit federal dollars spent to cover the costs of President Obama’s golf games. Speaker John Boehner and the Republican Leaders ruled that Congressman Gohmert’s amendment was not relevant to the continuing resolution and | Read More »
House & Senate Republicans Set to Endorse and Fund Obamacare
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | March 1st at 04:30 AM |
You want to know why the left is more successful at politics? They are willing to move heaven and earth to create new dependency programs, despite the electoral risks. They understand that once the program is implemented, Republicans will never have the guts to undo it. And they are correct. Even some of our best conservatives lack the gumption to do what it takes to | Read More »
The Stupid Party Expands Government Again
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | June 28th at 04:46 AM |
House and Senate Republican leaders, collectively the Stupid Party, are yet again set to expand government, government spending, and engage in Keynesian economic policies they’ve criticized Barack Obama for. Somewhat wisely, they are releasing all this as the Supreme Court releases its Obamacare decision so no one will pay attention. Ironically, as we wait to see if the Supreme Court gives Congress plenary power through | Read More »
Politico: excusing in 2012 their lack of foresight about 2010?
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 28th at 10:30 PM |
I need to push back on this cover-their-rear statement by Politico on the ‘surprise’ flipping of the House of Representatives in 2010. [House Speaker John] Boehner doesn’t play political prognosticator often. But when he does, those close to him say, there’s usually a calculated reason. In April 2010 — almost two years ago exactly — the then-House minority leader said in a radio interview that | Read More »

This Week in Washington – February 6, 2012
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | February 6th at 01:00 PM |
The Obama Administration has to be in shock as a result of the Gallup poll released last week indicating that Obama would lose his re-election according to state-by-state approval ratings. According to Conn Carroll of the Washington Examiner if the election were held today: Obama would lose the 2012 election to the Republican nominee 323 electoral votes to 215. Expect desperation from Senate liberals. Senate Democrats will accelerate | Read More »
Sex scandals: partisan poison at the polls?
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | November 21st at 11:00 AM |
Some unsolicited, un-paid for, and probably unwelcome advice to the Democrats: if it is true – again, if, if, if, if, if, if – that Dale Kildee is in fact guilty of the sexual molestation charges made against him, it will be in the Democratic party’s best interests to force Kildee to resign now. Consider the following Representatives: Mark Foley (R, FL-16). Resigned due to | Read More »
This Week in Washington – October 31, 2011
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | October 31st at 01:00 PM |
This week, conservatives need to monitor the details of any appropriations measure to fund the federal government for the remainder of the fiscal year that ends in October of 2012. Also, conservatives need to keep a close eye on the Senate to monitor progress by liberals to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. The House and Senate are expected to convene a conference committee on a “Minibus” | Read More »
Now House Republicans Must Fight The Gang of 6′s Gangrene Plan
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | July 20th at 05:00 AM |
Think of the Senate “Gang of 6″ Plan as the “Gangrene Plan.” It will slowly, but surely, rot away the nation. It was presented yesterday with a few claims: (1) It was not designed to play a role in the debt ceiling debate; (2) It was not meant to undercut the House Republicans’ “Cut, Cap, and Balance” plan; and, (3) It would not be a | Read More »

Dear House Republicans: This Will Be Unacceptable
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 6th at 11:28 PM |
I am receiving extremely credible information that Friday morning House Republicans may put Rep. Leonard Lance (R-NJ) on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Let me be clear here: this would be an affront to conservatives of all stripes. It is bad enough the House GOP chose to ignore conservatives when it came time to choose chairmen of the Energy & Commerce Committee and of | Read More »
