Scott Walker makes Wisconsin a sanctuary state.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  January 14th at 10:45 AM  |

…For Illinois businesses, that is: the new Governor is doing everything that he can to encourage a mass corporate exodus to Wisconsin, short of actually calling out the local National Guard to provide covering fire for the refugee columns.  This is less of an exaggeration than you might think: the official slogan that Governor Walker is using is “Escape to Wisconsin.”  They’re kind of serious | Read More »

Gov. Pat Quinn (D, IL) about to destroy IL Amazon affliliates?

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  January 7th at 09:00 AM  |

It’s certainly looking that way: the Democrat-run (Democrat-dominated) state legislature has just passed a bill to tax online purchases (via Points and Figures, via Instapundit): the bill is just waiting for Governor Pat Quinn’s (D) signature, which is almost certainly inevitable.  In fact, the state of Illinois is going to raise taxes across the board – because that’s what Democrats do.  Business is good; raise | Read More »

Phil Hare (D, IL-17) lies about corn growers’ endorsement.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  October 29th at 09:00 PM  |

You know, in some ways I’m going to miss this miserable ignoramus, once he’s gone: Phil Hare’s such a marvelous chew toy, and the ones that I had expected to be savaging this season were unexpectedly unsatisfying. Alan Grayson? Too slimy; I wanted to take a shower every time I saw him in the news. Carol Shea-Porter? The room-temperature IQ problem made it kind of | Read More »

This is How the Democrats Will Try to Steal the Election

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  October 27th at 05:00 AM  |

The old saw is that Republicans try to suppress elections and Democrats try to steal them. We are certainly seeing what appears to be the Democrats trying to steal the election in close races this year. We now know that the SEIU is in charge of the voting machines in Las Vegas where Harry Reid’s name is coming pre-checked. But buried in the news is | Read More »

    The 2010 election cycle, crystallized.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  October 22nd at 11:30 AM  |

It does not get any clearer than this: If you can’t see the video, here’s the summary: over in IL-08 they had a debate between Rep. Melissa Bean and Joe Walsh, run by the League of Women Voters. Somebody in the audience interrupts the beginning to ask if they were going to start with the Pledge of Allegiance. The moderator – stupidly, stupidly, stupidly – | Read More »

    Bobby Schilling’s (R CAND, IL-17) moneybomb.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  October 20th at 05:45 PM  |

Bobby Schilling is of course the guy who is making the Democrats futilely throw money down the Phil “What’s the Constitution?” Hare rathole: he’s currently ahead in the polls and is heading towards a victory in two weeks. HE CAN STILL LOSE. Remember, folks: we can’t count on anything, and this is Illinois.  That’s why the moneybomb: it’ll help keep Bobby in the race for | Read More »

My list of the four closest Senate races

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 12th at 07:01 PM  |

Later today I will find out what my Senate projection says are the four closest Senate races are, but for now, here are what I think those four currently are, and the latest polling on each: Illinois between Democrat Alexi Giannoulias and Republican Mark Kirk, Nevada between Republican Sharron Angle and Democrat Harry Reid, Washington between Democrat Patty Murray and Republican Dino Rossi, and West | Read More »

Alexi Giannoulias: “I didn’t know the extent of their activity.”

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  October 10th at 06:06 PM  |

Mark Kirk?  The video at this link?  It’s your next campaign ad. “If I knew then what I know now, these are not the kind of people that we’d do business with,” he added, “but that’s not how banks work.” Asked again if he knew that criminal figures were the recipients of some of those loans, Alexi Giannoulias (D-IL) said again, “I didn’t know the | Read More »

A metric ton of new polling today

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 6th at 08:00 PM  |

Good evening. We have a great deal of new polling that’s flooded in. Much of it is interesting too, so rather than pick and choose which polls I’ll cover in depth and which I will omit, instead I’ll give a quick look at all the good ones. We’ve got Senate races in Nevada, Connecticut, West Virginia, Ohio, New York, Missouri, and Delaware, plus races for | Read More »

    Bobby Schilling (R CAND, IL-17), pizza-swirler.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  October 6th at 12:30 PM  |

That’s not an euphemism, by the way: Bobby Schilling‘s new ad shows him making a pizza. An interesting skill to have, and frankly more useful than the skill set exhibited by his opponent Phil Hare, which these days mostly seems to involve lying about his opponent and being in deep, deep denial about the federal debt. I have a rule about internal polling

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 1st at 04:00 PM  |

Scientific polling, based on the laws of probability and the compounding of likelihoods, is a mathematical activity. It’s all about the numbers. Without the numbers no poll has meaning. That’s why I highlight key facts like Margins of Error. Your typical internal poll release is very low on numbers and instead is a one page memo. Those releases can be based on sound polling practices, | Read More »

    Looking at Illinois. [UPDATED]

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  September 29th at 03:31 PM  |

Let’s look at Illinois. IL-02: In wake of Jesse Jackson Jr’s being rather spectacularly accused of seat-buying-and-adultery, the NRCC is upping their support of Republican Isaac Hayes.  Because when you’re given a free shot, you should of course take it. IL-08:  QuincyNews.org is going to release [has released] a poll that shows Joe Walsh and incumbent Melissa Bean tied among registered voters. Guess that she | Read More »

Kirk makes it three in a row

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 29th at 12:30 PM  |

The Illinois Senate race keeps going back and forth. Republican Mark Kirk led a while, then Democrat Alexi Giannoulias took it back, but now having won three consecutive polls including PPP’s latest, it seems that Kirk is definitely on top again. It’s so close though that the polling of third party candidates is a serious issue. It may not matter in the end, though.

    Meet Patrick John Ryan (‘R’-CAND, IL-STATE 22).

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  September 22nd at 04:00 PM  |

Well… actually, if you can you’re one up on the Illinois Republican party, which is in the novel position of running a fundraiser for a candidate whom nobody can find. Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady announced that the Party will host a fundraiser for Patrick John Ryan, the “Republican” candidate challenging House Speaker Michael Madigan in the race for State Representative in the 22nd | Read More »

Alexi Giannoulias (D CAND, IL-SEN) linked with organized crime. *Again.*

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  September 21st at 02:52 AM  |

OK, this is a free piece of advice for the Giannoulias campaign: clearly their critical decision path process with regard to accepting assistance needs to be updated.  From now on, they need to absolutely make sure that at some point during the process the question By the way: are you associated in any way with organized crime? be asked of potential assistants – and if | Read More »
