Debbie Halvorson Goes With the Nazi Card

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  September 17th at 03:18 PM  |

Adam Kinzinger is running for Congress against Debbie Halvorson in Illinois. On September 15th, at an Americans for Prosperity event, left-wing protestors showed up with posters depicting Kinzinger as a Nazi. They also had pictures of Sarah Palin with Hitler mustaches, etc. The Kinzinger campaign filmed the protestors and followed them. Guess where the protestors went with their signs? Back to Debbie Halvorson’s campaign headquarters. | Read More »

Sometimes a candidate is more than we expect

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 8th at 10:00 AM  |

During the California Senate primary, my major criticisms of Carly Fiorina were that she had no public track record to back her on the issues, and that as a novice campaigner she was liable to make mistakes and lose a winnable race. During the race I didn’t quite give her the Tom Campbell treatment, but I gave Chuck DeVore all the support I could. During | Read More »

Democrats Acting Badly Watch: IL-17 AND IL-18!

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  August 28th at 02:57 PM  |

This cropped up at one of Phil Hare’s events.  Some background (you can see the raw video here): Phil Hare was doing his best to ignore his constituents’ rather pointed questions about Hare’s lack of awareness when it came to Constitutional law; eventually Hare fled to an area where said constituents could not follow; they turned to leave; and then a Democrat called one of | Read More »

Jan Schakowsky (D, IL-09) saves Shorebank after all.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  August 24th at 08:30 AM  |

Back in May it was reported that the failing, yet politically-connected Shorebank in Illinois was to be bailed out. The bank actually closed last Friday, but was resurrected yesterday and turned into a new bank – one that will of course have no obvious relationship to Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), who lobbied very strenuously to save Shorebank… even though it’s not based in her district. | Read More »

Giannoulias leads, but Democrats deeply depressed

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 17th at 02:00 PM  |

From Unlikely Voter: I theorized before that Pat Quinn would drag down Alexi Giannoulias in Illinois, with a rout for Governor having reverse coattails for Senate, and now Public Policy Polling seems to show the effects I predicted. A bad candidate for governor in a negative wave year is a terrible situation for a party to have, but that’s the Democrats in Illinois today.

…And Pat Quinn will be bad for Alexi Giannoulias

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 12th at 02:00 PM  |

From Unlikely Voter: The Illinois Senate race is already set to be an ugly war, only distinguished from France 1916 by the lack of chemical warfare. Both candidates are hated and have baggage that is not going to go away. Either one can win, though, judging by the polling I’ve seen. But if Republicans rally around a surging Bill Brady while Pat Quinn polls as | Read More »

    Battleground Senate Poll

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 11th at 03:00 PM  |

From Unlikely Voter: In an open and credited aping of the Greenberg Quinlan Rosner House battleground polls, Public Opinion Strategies has conducted a massive Senate battleground poll. Politico has for us the summary and 150 pages of gory, numerical details. I’m going to see what sense I can make of it.

Alexi Giannoulias watching his dirty lobbyist money diet.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  July 22nd at 01:00 PM  |

He wants only free-range dirty lobbyist money, apparently. None of this factory-grown, federal dirty lobbyist money for him: Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias says he’s swearing off campaign contributions from lobbyists, but not all lobbyists. Giannoulias, the state treasurer, promised at the start of his Senate campaign a year ago that he wouldn’t take contributions from corporate lobbyists or political action committees. But that | Read More »

    Cedra Crenshaw back on ballot!

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  July 22nd at 12:00 PM  |

Cedra, as you will recall, is a conservative Republican running for the Illinois state Senate who had been thrown off the ballot for being a black conservative Republican a ballot technicality. That has been… resolved, and not in the Democrats’ favor: State Sen. A.J. Wilhelmi has a fight on his hands, and his Democratic bosses have only made it worse. Party leaders brought out the | Read More »

Nobody loves Phil Hare (D, IL-17).

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  July 20th at 07:00 PM  |

I’d like to note for the record that RedState, like Jim Geraghty, was making encouraging sounds about the Bobby Schilling / Phil Hare race well before the recent (commissioned) poll that shows Schilling leading the incumbent 45/32.  Phil Hare, of course, is yet another Democrat who feels entitled to his seat, despite his lack of a knowledge of even the basics of American constitutional theory: | Read More »

PROSECUTORS: Jesse Jackson Jr. knew of Senate seat offer.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  July 8th at 02:43 PM  |

Hoo, boy. A supporter of U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. told the Democratic congressman in 2008 that he would raise $1 million in return for then- Gov. Rod Blagojevich naming Jackson to the U.S. Senate, a federal prosecutor said Wednesday. The allegation, made on a busy day at Blagojevich’s federal corruption trial, was the first time authorities publicly suggested Jackson was aware of efforts by | Read More »

Alexi Giannoulias (D), call your office.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  July 4th at 11:00 AM  |

I understand that the man is desperate to escape to Washington, DC – but the bills are piling up.  And I am not being figurative in the slightest: Even by the standards of this deficit-ridden state, Illinois’s comptroller, Daniel W. Hynes, faces an ugly balance sheet. Precisely how ugly becomes clear when he beckons you into his office to examine his daily briefing memo. He | Read More »

    Blago subpoenas Giannoulias.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  June 28th at 08:00 AM  |

A pleasant beginning to the week, no? First it was President Barack Obama, then White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, now U.S. Senate Candidate Alexi Giannoulias is joining the Rod Blagojevich corruption trial subpoena list. Giannoulias is in the middle of a hard fought campaign against Congressman Mark Kirk for the right to fill the U.S. Senate seat once held by President Obama. So | Read More »

Could None of These win in Illinois?

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  June 18th at 03:11 PM  |

Elections in Nevada give the voter the choice to vote for “None of These” candidates listed. Every poll I see of the Illinois Senate race suggests to me that if Illinois put that option on the ballot, None of These would win. The next bit of evidence for the pile: PPP’s latest poll of the race.
