Tech at Night: FCC to get grilled, Cybersecurity debate continues
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | July 10th at 12:30 AM |
Darrell Issa’s House Energy and Commerce is going to have a special hearing with all five members of the FCC, including newly confirmed members Jessica Rosenworcel and Ajit Pai. The FCC is expected to be questioned about issues ranging from wired phone competition to spectrum. I hope Mitt Romney’s people are listening, because the hearing should also highlight regulatory reforms needed across the executive branch | Read More »

Lisa Murkowski’s Earmark in the House Land Use Bill
By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary) | June 18th at 10:30 PM |
On Tuesday, the House will be voting on a banal and non-controversial omnibus land use bill, H.R. 2578. Honestly, there are much bigger fish to fry, especially as the Senate begins to tackle the $1 trillion farm bill along with over 70 amendments. However, there is one provision in this bill that is worth highlighting, as it exemplifies the culture of quid-pro-quo parochial handouts that | Read More »
Murkowski Must be Denied Chairmanship of Key Energy Panel
By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary) | June 5th at 03:45 PM |
Last week, Senator Jim DeMint said the following regarding the stakes between Ted Cruz and David Dewhurst in the Texas Senate race: “A Republican majority is pointless if it isn’t achieved w/ conservatives who will fight to stop the spending and debt.” His comments cannot be more oracular. If we win back control over the Senate, yet keep the same leadership intact, we will be | Read More »
Pandering Murkowski Regrets Blunt Amendment Vote, Wishes She Had Voted on Lies Instead
By: Lori Ziganto (Diary) | March 6th at 02:00 PM |
On Thursday, the Senate voted on the Blunt Amendment which would have allowed religious institutions/employers to opt out of the mandate in Obamacare requiring “free” coverage of contraceptives and abortifacients. I know, it’s not as sexy as someone being called a ‘slut’, but that is what the actual amendment was about. Individual freedom and religious liberty, funnily enough things on which this country was, you | Read More »
Tech at Night: Ron Johnson backing GOP’s SECURE IT Act, Anonymous fails again
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | March 2nd at 03:00 AM |
Harry Reid may be on a mad dash to bring the radical Liebmerman/Collins/Rockefeller cybersecurity bill, but a broad spectrum of Republicans continue to fight. Democrats may have toned down its Internet Kill Switch provisions, but still is a massive power grab online, and the new SECURE IT act is a much better idea. What I absolutely love about SECURE it is that it hits all | Read More »

Tech at Night: Harry Reid’s rush to pass an Internet power grab. LightSquared LOSES at the FCC thanks to Chuck Grassley?
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | February 16th at 03:00 AM |
I meant to talk about the cybersecurity bill on Monday as it’s a big story. But, it’s gotten even bigger since. You see, a broad spectrum of Republicans is coming out against it. Names like Kay Bailey Hutchison, John McCain, Mike Enzi, Saxby Chambliss, Jeff Sessions, and even Lisa Murkowski are against the crazy Rush Harry Reid and the Democrats are putting on the bill | Read More »

Tech at Night: Is ACTA a problem, and the return of Internet Kill Switch lite?
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | January 31st at 02:07 AM |
There’s a lot of fear going around about ACTA, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, a plurilateral agreement under the WTO between the US, the EU, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and Morocco. Some of the fears look real, some don’t. For example, even though it was negotiated in secret, the text is easily available. Another false complaint is that it’s another SOPA, when | Read More »

DeMint Tried to Stop Her. But Murkowski Lied, Now Babies Will Die
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | March 11th at 09:18 PM |
DeMint tried to warn us. But Lisa lied. Now she’s fighting to make sure your taxpayer dollars are used to kill babies. And how do Washington Republicans respond to this betrayal by Murkowski, who lost the primary, vilified a patriot like Joe Miller, and lied about wanting to use taxpayer funds for abortion? They promote Murkowski as spokeswoman for the Republican Party, of course. GOP | Read More »
Today in Washington – November 17, 2010
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | November 17th at 10:00 AM |
The Senate Republican Conference voted to ban earmarks yesterday. A victory for conservatives — Hold on a second. Moments after the announcement some Republicans stated that they would publicly flout the rule and Democrats pledged to fight to protect bloated pork barrel spending. Although the President has pledged his opposition to earmarking, the true test may come soon if Congress sends him an Omnibus spending | Read More »
Assessing Joe Miller
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | November 1st at 09:09 AM |
A lot of people have accused Joe Miller in Alaska of running a “paranoid” campaign. I admit that I’ve thought it. Turns out he has been right to do so. We have the local CBS affiliate in Alaska out to get him — caught on tape no less. We have John Cornyn on TV giving a muddled message about who he supports, forcing the NRSC to | Read More »
Joe Miller in third? Not so fast.
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 28th at 01:00 PM |
Continuing Politico’s apparent strategy of linking to obscure polls that say bad things about Republicans for shock and traffic value in this wave year, the site now reports Joe Miller to be in last place. For several reasons, one has to discount this poll’s predictiveness of the coming election.
So This is Why Lisa Murkowski Failed The Bar Exam 4 Times
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 27th at 10:56 PM |
In an interview with Rachel Maddow Lisa Murkowski explains that thinking something is unconstitutional because it is not in the constitution is not “mainstream.” Maybe so Lisa. But it doesn’t make it wrong.
Murkowski Yet Again Profits In Office
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 7th at 01:52 PM |
I’ve documented before how Lisa Murkowski profited in office through a land deal in which she increased the value of property by directing a federal earmark to build a short road to the property for several millions of dollars. Well, she’s done it again. This time by voting for TARP. Turns out Lisa had substantial investments in several of the companies that benefited the most | Read More »
Lisa Murkowski Profits in Office
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 28th at 05:00 AM |
When the obituary is finally written on Lisa Murkowski’s political career, one of the key points will be her land deal. Many people, even in Alaska, have not heard about it, but it gives us a glimpse into everything wrong with Lisa Murkowski and why voters rejected her. USA Today has a helpful rundown on the story, which is old, but which has some new | Read More »
Tech at Night: Devastating poll against Net Neutrality, FCC, DISCLOSE, Free Press
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | September 25th at 08:00 PM |
Good evening. Welcome to the special, totally planned, and not at all a fallback because I wore out after a week of catching up after the RS Gathering, Saturday edition of Tech at Night. I did want to make sure we all read about this poll by Hart Research Associates which shows over 75% of likely voters (MoE should be about 3.4 for a sample | Read More »
