Tuesday night’s story was one of effective campaigning, not personality

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  March 14th at 12:00 AM  |

There is a rush tonight to try to identify the true interpretation of the Republican electoral results. Many of them will be shared on the Internet, but this one is mine. This wasn’t the first close race. Mitt Romney has won them previously. What’s different about tonight is that Rick Santorum pulled it off this time, This defied expectations, and went counter to everything I | Read More »

It’s Game On in Alabama and Mississippi

By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary)  |  March 12th at 09:01 PM  |

We have spent all year inveighing against flaccid Republicans capitulating to the forces of big government.  Well, as the polls open in Alabama and Mississippi, now is our time to shine.  No – I’m not referring to the presidential election where we have a choice between several ‘evils of three lesser;’ I’m referring to the congressional elections. As we noted last week, Spencer Bachus (Al-6) | Read More »

    Introducing the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale

By: Steve Maley (Diary)  |  February 7th at 05:00 PM  |

Around these parts, we have a word that aptly describes shale formations: ubitquitious. (sic) Every conventional oil and gas basin must have a hydrocarbon source, and that source is a shale. And since shales are low in permeability, we’re finding that the source rock still contains plenty of hydrocarbons, if you can figure out how to get the stuff out. One of the newly-emerging plays | Read More »

Tax The Mississippi Rich, Not The New York Rich

By: Aaron Gardner (Diary)  |  September 20th at 11:30 AM  |

Honestly, I have a hard time knowing whether Sen. Chuck Schumer [D-NY] is evil or just stupid. Thankfully the English language conveniently provides the word “and’ to assist in situations like this. You see, the good Senator from New York isn’t happy with President Obama’s new, old, current, ever thus, plan to make the rich pay their fair share. Actually, that isn’t entirely true, Chuck | Read More »

Of a certain Mississippi poll on marriage, and of those who make hay of it

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  April 8th at 09:00 AM  |

Normally when I come across a poll to analyze, I’ll put on my impartial poll analysis hat and run it both at RedState and UnlikelyVoter. However seeing this new push poll by Public Policy Polling and the shamefully credulous response by Doug Mataconis at Outside the Beltway, I don’t want to hold back. I want to tell it like it is, and why unless some | Read More »

Meet Steven Palazzo (R CAND, MS-04).

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  October 13th at 11:15 AM  |

Steven is up against long-term incumbent Gene Taylor, who has the profound misfortune of being a Blue Dog in an election cycle where people have started noticing that Blue Dogs aren’t living up to their reputation for fiscal conservatism. Steven and I talked about that, and other things: Steven’s site is here. [UPDATE: and Steven's doing a 48 Hour Challenge.] Moe Lane (crosspost)

Tech at Night: Net Neutrality, Google, Verizon, Glenn Beck, Free Press, IETF, Mississippi, Greenland

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 10th at 11:30 PM  |

Happy Friday! In case you’re not a regular follower of the Net Neutrality issue, over at Frum Forum Jon Henke outlines the state of the debate. The Frum title sounds like advocacy, but Henke doesn’t promote the Google-Verizon Net Neutrality proposal here. It’s worth a read if you’re catching up.

    Schadenfreude Hour: Mississippi Democrats Implode

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  July 27th at 10:23 AM  |

My friend Kingfish brings word of the implosion of the Mississippi Democratic Party. It is in full scale meltdown because the Chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party’s wife struck up an affair with an elected Democrat. Jamie Franks, the state chairman, is getting divorced from his wife. His wife has been having an affair with Mike Scott, the school superintendent in Lee County, MS and | Read More »
