The Great White Unknown
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 13th at 05:00 AM |
It is one of my overarching concerns with the myth of Mitt the Electable — Bain Capital and Romney’s time in the private sector. Byron York sums it up here. There’s no basis to reflexively defend Romney’s record, because we don’t know in any real detail what he did at Bain. But there’s no basis to indict him, either, for the same reason. There are | Read More »
Some Birds Say ‘Drop In.’ Other Birds Say ‘Drop By.’ We Vultures Say ‘Drop Dead.’
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 12th at 03:12 PM |
I have been accused of giving Rick Perry the term “vulture capitalist.” I’ve used it on CNN a few times to say that’s how the Democrats would describe Mitt Romney. Rick Perry has used the term of late too. It is a description Americans can relate to and while it does not affect our cold, capitalist hearts, it works mighty effectively with independent voters. If | Read More »
South Carolina: Huntsman up, but not Romney?
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | January 12th at 01:00 PM |
InsiderAdvantage appears to be the first out of the gate in South Carolina after Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary. As expected, South Carolina is showing movement from New Hampshire, the way New Hampshire and South Carolina showed movement from Iowa. At least, Rick Santorum is down and Jon Huntsman is up. Sticking out though is the lack of any gain for Mitt Romney.
In defense of capitalism
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 12th at 04:45 AM |
Sweet Lord in Heaven, every time I try to tune these clowns out they hack me off and drag me back in. There are legitimate criticisms to be made of Mitt Romney and Bain Capital. Anyone who says otherwise needs to be prepared to defend Bain Capital more than once relying on the government to cover their butts on deals and even being bailed out | Read More »
Multiple Choice Mitt’s Changing Colors on Romneycare
By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary) | January 11th at 02:40 PM |
April 12, 2006 is a day that will live on in infamy. That was the day that then-Gov. Mitt Romney signed his signature socialized healthcare bill into law with Ted Kennedy standing over his shoulder. It was the first time in American history that government of any sort compelled its citizenry to purchase health insurance. It served as the catalyst for an individual mandate on | Read More »
If I understand this right, I have a question
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 11th at 12:20 PM |
If I understand this right, Bain Capital profited from the creative destruction of capital. It went in, found the unappreciated or hidden value in companies, restructured and/or chopped up companies, and returned the valuable parts to health. It did it across the board. And if I understand it right, attacking Bain Capital or Mitt Romney for what Bain did is unacceptable as an attack on | Read More »
Romneycare, Bain Capital, 2012, and the Lost Opportunity to Assail Obamacare
By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary) | January 10th at 09:14 PM |
“Romney’s career as a venture socialist governor is what should concern us; not his career as a venture capitalist in the private sector.” At this point, residents of South Carolina are already getting tired of those TV ads and documentaries detailing the destruction wrought by Romneycare. They are jaded by the flashing screens of middle class sob stories from respectable Massachusetts taxpayers – taxpayers who | Read More »
On Romney, Bain and Keeping Your Integrity
By: Dan McLaughlin (Diary) | January 10th at 11:36 AM |
We’re far down the rabbit hole of primary season right now, and that inevitably means that charges and counter-charges are flying so fast that the news cycle can change dramatically from morning to afternoon. Naturally, when things are moving this quickly and emotions are running high, people get carried away. This happens to everyone. A lot of people who sit on the sidelines are too | Read More »
Primary Day in New Hampshire
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | January 10th at 10:30 AM |
I made a big deal about the polling in Iowa being skewed. However I have no reason to suspect oddness in the New Hampshire polling going into today. Open primaries are much easier to poll than closed caucuses. Jon Huntsman has rebounded rapidly, but he’ll likely finish behind Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.

Attacking Bain
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 10th at 09:07 AM |
I have to be honest that I do not have a problem with or feel the level of outrage some of you do about Newt Gingrich attacking Bain and Mitt Romney. It’s not because I necessarily agree with Newt on the attacks, but because these are the attacks the left will throw at Mitt and, should he be the nominee, the early attacks help him | Read More »
Mitt Romney: Corporate Raider or Capitalist Hero?
By: Brad Jackson (Diary) | January 9th at 10:00 AM |

We’re brought to you as always by BigGovernment and Stephen Clouse | Read More »
Where I Stand: Perry, Gingrich, and None of the Above
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 8th at 07:00 AM |
I will support the Republican nominee for President. But until we have that nominee, I will not support Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. Had Rick Santorum been up for election in 2010 instead of suffering the largest margin of defeat of any candidate in 2006, I have no doubt he would be one of the Republicans primaried by the tea party. He routinely voted for | Read More »
Mitt Romney Got Arrested
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 7th at 11:09 PM |
It is such a silly thing, but it plays right into the left-wing attack on Mitt as an out of touch elitist. All the way back to 1981, Mitt Romney got arrested. It was no big deal. Romney‘s arrest came in June 1981 when he proceeded to launch his motorboat at Wayland’s Lake Cochituate only moments after a park police officer had told him not | Read More »
NH Romney surrogate tells us to settle for his candidate.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | January 7th at 10:35 AM |
Via CNS (via Hot Air) comes this ‘argument’ from NH Romney supporter and state Senator Gary Lambert. To summarize it, Lambert wants us all to sit down, shut up, and endorse Romney despite the fact that Lambert himself is tacitly conceding that Romney does not share conservatives’ principles and beliefs. No, really.
Not Romney
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 7th at 12:58 AM |
In an RedState exclusive, we’ve obtained a copy of the latest salvo in the GOP 2012 Presidential primary — “Not Romney“. The Gingrich campaign is leading the way, staying true to Newt Gingrich’s view of an alliance shaping up. I hear other campaigns and possibly some outside groups will join in. But this is the first salvo, a flier to be released by the Gingrich | Read More »
