The coming ACA death spiral.
You might have heard that even if only 25% of the enrollees are young adults that the overall costs of Obamacare will increase only 2.4% and a death spiral will certainly not ensue. Assuming that the enrollees don’t skew sicker than expected (we’ll come back to that) there is still a problem – the gender makeup. It is well known that men use fewer health | Read More »
The burden of truth
How are ObamaCare enrollments coming along? The correct answer is: nobody knows. By this I mean no one who knows the answer with better than 75 percent accuracy is willing to say so in public. This week the Administration updated its official count to 3.3 million enrollments. This number is absolutely false, and everyone knows it. Industry experts believe more than 20 percent of the enrollments counted by | Read More »
Really, GOP? Just… Really?
And so it came to pass that after a lot of bluster, the Republican leadership in Congress caved yet again to Obama on the debt ceiling and gave Obama want he demanded- a clean bill. After months of promising to gain some concessions from Obama on issues ranging from the Keystone pipeline to Obamacare, the GOP walks away with nothing again. To make matters worse, | Read More »
Free at last, free at last: celebrating the right to free-LOAD, at last
Friends, let me begin by congratulating Barack Obama for freeing the American public from the burden of labor that for too long has trapped citizens into slavishly “providing” for themselves and their family. Prior to the Affordable Care Act, far too many Americans, locked in employment, paid a heavy toll for trotting to work each morning, unable to think or act for themselves. Now, however, | Read More »
‘Impeach the President’
You guys in the press who are reading this right now can be such shameless whores. I generally try to hold to the standard these days that if I wouldn’t be outraged by George Chimpy McBushitler Halliburton and Darth Cheney doing something, I shouldn’t be outraged by President Obama. And if I’d be outraged by Bush, I should be outraged by Obama. But you journalists | Read More »
Obamacare Demonstrates Why Socialists Need Both Hammer and Sickle
So President Obama has issued executive orders that directly contradict passed legislation bearing his signature. Firms employing 50-99 workers are now exempt from the penalty fines for not insuring all of their full time staff under the “Affordable” Care Act. This was as deeply generous and caring as it was constitutionally legal. But, as President Obama explains. “The great thing about being President is that I can do anything I want.”*
Firms that are larger than 99 employees aren’t President. They encounter the following restrictions to their corporate free will.

The One Year Obamacare Waivers Are A Trap!
We now have a President who is issuing executive orders that directly contradict passed legislation. A large number of people are relieved. They are small business people who have been granted two consecutive stays of the Obamacare provisions effecting business operations that employ between 50 and 99 workers. To wit, the president has suspended by fiat the legal requirement that every small business enroll every full-time employee in an Obamacare approved plan or pay $2,000 per un-enrolled employee. The Wall Street Journal describes this order below.

Boehner and Cantor Declare No Debt Ceiling Increase Without Obamacare Delay and Keystone Approval
With the President delaying, again, parts of Obamacare, House Republican Leader Eric Cantor and Speaker John Boehner have declared they will not raise the debt ceiling unless the President does two things: (1) delay Obamacare by a year and (2) approve the Keystone XL Pipeline. In fact, Congressman Paul Ryan is standing shoulder to shoulder with them, telling Robert Costa, “Shutting down the government puts us | Read More »
Here’s Why Barack Obama is Delaying Obamacare Again
The Obama Administration is yet again delaying the employer mandate for businesses with 50 to 99 full time workers. The reason is the congressional budget office report.Page 124 of the report has this language: Beginning in 2015, employers of 50 or more full-time equivalent workers that do not offer health insurance (or that offer health insurance that does not meet certain criteria) will generally pay a | Read More »
The Economist Who Predicted Obamacare’s Hit to Jobs
On today’s edition of Coffee and Markets, Brad Jackson and Ben Domenech are joined by Francis Cianfrocca to discuss Janet Yellen’s first trip to Capitol Hill as head of the Fed, the economist who predicted CBO’s Obamacare job loss numbers and if we are doomed to become Europe.

Even When Government Power Grabs Are Overturned – The Left Wins
The Barack Obama Administration has been overstepping its Constitutional bounds since just about five minutes after its first inauguration. They have long been practicing a regulatory-overreach overrun approach. Imposing myriad new regs in innumerable directions – oft aimed at the free market’s foundational sectors and Democrats’ political enemies. The power grab victims are forced to take it – or to waste huge sums of money | Read More »

Barack Obama… A man of our time
Writer John Naisbitt once said “Leadership involves finding a parade and getting in front of it.” I’m not sure that’s quite the right definition of leadership, but it certainly applies to Barack Obama. Just before his election in 2008 he said “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” What he might have more accurately said was “America is fundamentally | Read More »
Obamacare And The Freedom To Do Nothing
There’s an irony in the GOP complaining that ACA lets people quit jobs. I mean, what’s wrong with freedom?
– (HT: The Huffington Post)*
So what is wrong with freedom? I’m not sure. There hasn’t been too much of it running around loose lately. Most people who think otherwise haven’t gone through DCA around 1PM any time in the last 12 years. I kid. It’s a quote from the Huffpo. I had a hard time taking that rhetorical question above any more seriously than I’d take an old Andy Kaufman routine. The important question to ask would be this: “What in the name of Glorious and Sacred Obamacare has brought forth such a bilious wellspring of Progressive brain waste?”

The value of intact families has been vigorously debated for the past few years, always in the muted tones appropriate to social-issues discussions the Left doesn’t like. There is little question that broken families and illegitimacy are enormous handicaps for children; controlling for illegitimacy greatly reduces every other demographic factor in crime and poverty. The upper class in America tends to marry young, have children, | Read More »
Ken Buck Leads The Pack To Take Out Mark Udall in Colorado
Mark Udall is looking vulnerable. And according to a Quinnipiac poll releasted today, it’s Ken Buck who is best positioned to take out the Colorado Senator who rode the Obama wave to election in 2008. The poll shows Udall with a slim lead over Buck at 45-42 with a 2.9% MoE. Essentially this race is tied, and a look at some of the cross tabs | Read More »
