The Choice Almost Nobody Wants
By: Brian Simpson (Diary) | October 6th at 11:45 PM |
Far be it from me to not give credit where it is due. Unlike what I detailed last night in the inaugural edition of the Choice and Competition Death Watch, it should be pointed out that the new federal health care legislation did actually create a new choice in many states. A key piece of the legislation was the creation of a new set of | Read More »
Breaking: HHS Has Failed to Meet a Third of Obamacare’s Mandated Deadlines
By: Ben Domenech (Diary) | October 4th at 02:27 PM |
A new report from the non-partisan Congressional Research Service, commissioned by Republican Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and others, finds astounding proof of the total administrative failure of the administration in implementing Obamacare. According to the report, HHS has missed one-third of the deadlines contained within the legislation for the first six months under Obama’s new health care regime. Coburn, who last week introduced an | Read More »
51 to Repeal: Elect a True Conservative in West Virginia
By: John Raese (Diary) | September 30th at 02:04 PM |
As a steadfast supporter of conservative candidates, you know what’s at stake in the West Virginia Senate race. Joe Manchin’s been knocked back on his heels by polls that show me beating him, most recently a Rasmussen poll on Tuesday showing me in the lead by 48% to 46%. So Manchin has taken to lying about his position about Obamacare. In March, he was West Virginia’s | Read More »
McDonald’s is the Next to Get Rid of Employee Healthcare
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 30th at 09:35 AM |
This was not an unforeseen consequence of Obamacare. This was not unknown. This was not unexpected. It was predicted. McDonald’s is planning to drop the healthcare coverage of 30,000 employees unless the Obama Administration waives certain rules related to coverage. Trade groups representing restaurants and retailers say low-wage employers might halt their coverage if the government doesn’t loosen a requirement for “mini-med” plans, which offer | Read More »
Making ObamaCare an Issue this Fall
By: Drew Ryun (Diary) | September 26th at 09:18 PM |
Now that we are in the midst of the final sprint of election season 2010, the issues that will decide the election are becoming clearer by the day. It’s about the economy and jobs. It’s about taxes. It should also be about healthcare reform. However, a recent Hotline poll showed Republican campaign insiders downplaying ObamaCare as an issue. We understand why the Republican consultants are | Read More »
Today in Washington – September 24, 2010
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | September 24th at 09:45 AM |
No votes in the House or Senate today. Stephen Colbert will be testifying at a House Judiciary subcommittee on the issue of immigration – this is not a joke. Sources tell Red State that the debate on whether to extend all or part of the ’01/’03 tax cuts has been punted into the Lame Duck session by nervous Democrats. They can’t keep all Dems in line on | Read More »

ObamaCare Promise of No Rationing Broken by FDA
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | September 19th at 06:00 PM |
Until recently, the implications of ObamaCare were debated in a vacuum. There were allegations and responses, but no results to support either side. Now that we have entered the implementation phase of ObamaCare, things are becoming more clear. Many of the bold promises that were offered to sell ObamaCare to the American public were not based in reality. Taxes increases hit Americans next year and, in many | Read More »

The first House Democrat has joined the effort to repeal ObamaCare. Congressman Gene Taylor, (D-MS) has signed a discharge petition that would force a vote on H.R. 4972, a bill sponsored by Congressman Steve King (R-IA) to repeal the so called “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.” To force a vote on the House floor, supporters of a repeal need 218 signatures on a discharge petition | Read More »
Democrats Told To Stop Campaigning On Obamacare
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | August 20th at 05:00 AM |
The Politico headline is actually New Dem message: ‘Improve’ health care, don’t talk cost , but that is not wholly what is going on. What is going on is a recognition from the Democrats that after a year of trying to sell Obamacare as a panacea of right thinking and improvement, the voters headed to the polls in November disagree and are angry. Consequently, the | Read More »
Severability and Obamacare
By: Ben Domenech (Diary) | August 17th at 02:00 PM |
Several state legislators have reached out to me recently with questions about the nature of severability and Obamacare. Since some Redstaters seem to have questions as well, I thought I’d explain a bit about what this means. Most laws of large size and scope have something called a “severability clause” attached to them. Essentially, this means that if one part of a piece of large | Read More »

By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 16th at 03:30 PM |
If you’ve missed the Avastin controversy, here’s a quick summary of it: Avastin is a general anti-cancer drug that got fast-tracked by the FDA a few years ago and is now prescribed to under 18 thousand women a year in the United States who suffer from the last stages of breast cancer. It doesn’t cure the cancer; it has side effects; and its beneficial effects | Read More »
Why the White House needs to worry about Proposition C.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 6th at 09:00 AM |
Read up on reports of the results of Tuesday’s vote on Missouri’s Proposition C* and you’re going to notice what James Taranto did: there’s an urge to declare the vote ‘largely symbolic‘ (amusingly, this includes Taranto’s own Wall Street Journal, or at least the portions of it that aren’t part of the opinion section). This is generally political-speak for ‘the voting public just kicked our | Read More »
Seventy One Percent of Missouri Voters Agree With Candidate Obama
By: Brian Simpson (Diary) | August 4th at 09:00 PM |
On Tuesday, Missouri voters went to the polls. Among other things, the voters decided on Proposition C, a statute exempting Missouri from the individual mandate from Obamacare. By an overwhelming percentage, voters rejected Obamacare and passed Prop C (71.1 to 28.9). This ardent rejection of the individual mandate puts Missouri voters on par with then-Candidate Obama who, during the 2008 primary, attacked Sen Hillary Clinton’s | Read More »
