Next week, Senate Democrats will restart their effort to create a de facto permanent unemployment entitlement for those out of work for up to 73 weeks. Unfortunately, instead of uprooting the entire premise of the Unemployment Insurance (UI) extension, many Senate Republicans are prepared to go along with this scheme as long as the 5 month cost is offset through some notional promises of more | Read More »
The December 2013 jobs report was about like the December 2013 weather. It was cloudy with a chance of Expletive. Depending on whose estimate you trust more, the models missed reality by 113 to 151 thousand. I’ll credit the BLS with not hiding the decline and admitting this one was a stinker. Contrary to expert opinion, I think it would have been a stinker regardless of what fell out of the sky. If the current set of conditions indicates recovery, God preserve me from an economic relapse. I’ll detail my reasoning below.
Today’s centennial anniversary of the creation of the “Third Bank of the United States”, legally titled the Federal Reserve, seems a good time to reflect on its mostly unchecked power, role in causing and preventing financial crises, and obvious inability to return an economy to health made sick by failed fiscal and other economic policies imposed by the federal government. The Federal Reserve System was | Read More »
Pun intended. The failure of economic activity from New Years Days through Black Fridays in the Age of Obama to produce profits after stores close on the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, has led many to re-dub the biggest shopping day of the year, “gray” Friday. But if American businesses not based on Wall Street are still in the red after nearly 11/12ths of the year is | Read More »
Admission: It has become increasingly harder for this 2008 Housing-Bust-and-subsequent-Great-Recession-ravaged South Carolina Gamecock now roosted atop Stone Mountain of Georgia, to be thankful during the anemic so-called recovery brought to America by Obamanomics. We don’t live on Wall Street, K Street or a fracking-good state. No, we continue to struggle with hunger games outside of the Capitol City with scribblings such as this dedicated to | Read More »
The Liar-in-Chief is exposed as his signature Obamacare implodes and 720,000 drop out of the workforce in one month. Insurance policy cancellations and security lapses at HealthCare.gov (when potential victims of identity theft can get the website to “work”) have interrupted the body politic long enough. Time for Democrats to roll out their favorite pets to distract Americans from serial failures while branding Republicans as heartless | Read More »
There is more than one way to skin cats and bankrupt private insurance companies. That President Obama lied when he guaranteed Americans they could keep insurance policies they liked is a metaphysical certitude. What is near supernatural is just how many ways he lied. From James Taranto, WSJ’s Best of the Web: Some of the canceled plans–the ones [Barack] Obama now categorically describes (dishonestly) as | Read More »
The only “work” stimulated for non-government union employees by President Obama’s 2009 “stimulus” bill was for U-Haul to move adult children’s furniture back to their parents’ homes. Obamacare will force children lucky enough to have full-time jobs to rent Ryder trucks to transport mom and dad’s stuff to their abodes. Maybe President Barack Obama would consider issuing an executive order allowing adults to stay on their children’s | Read More »
This month and next mark the fifth anniversaries of the Housing Bust-caused financial crisis that led to TARP and other Fat Cat-bailouts and the election of the purveyor of Obamanomics. Next month also marks the seventh anniversary of the Election of 2006 that returned Democrats to power in the House for four years and in the Senate for six years and counting that have, along | Read More »
People avoid silence because they’re afraid of what they might hear. Although we value our freedom of speech, polite conversation in America is subject to one crushing rule, “Don’t talk about religion or politics!” Most of us were raised with this stifling warning in our ears. The purpose was to avoid arguments at the dinner table but the result is a population unconcerned in the | Read More »
To me, the Facebook IPO is a perfect metaphor for the Barack Obama Economy. It has the awesome sales-pitch. Everybody is excited and nobody had better dare talk it down. All the experts touted the cutting-edge science explaining why it was the best idea for the current situation. Then, we’ll let Christina Romer explain bluntly* what exactly happened next.
For months we’ve heard calls from Democrats for Mitt Romney to release his tax records. Last week Harry Reid even claimed he had it from “a number of people” had told him that Mitt Romney had not paid his taxes for a decade and demanded he release them. I’d like to suggest Mitt Romney actually go ahead and release his tax records. Much like pulling | Read More »
Here we go again. The Democrat controlled Senate forces yet another Continuing Resolution (CR) discussion and threats of a Government Shutdown! Which again brings up all those questions of Base-line Budgeting and conveniently forgetting those Debt Ceiling “compromise” promises to cut, um, “reduce,” spending by anything and ram through more, and more, and more Government largess. We have been here before and as long as | Read More »
Nothing exemplifies the history and accomplishments of the Obama administration like the Chevy Volt. The Chevy Volt was an experimental electric car that was supposed to bring our nation into the future. The Obama administration was an experiment that would change our economy from a capitalist, free market economy, into a centralized command and control economy planned by the brightest and the best. The Chevy | Read More »
