The Democrat budget’s “spending cut” hocus pocus
By: John Hayward | March 14th at 12:14 PM |
It’s awful that the Democrats want to squeeze a trillion dollars in new taxes out of Americans with Senate Budget Committee chair Patty Murray’s (D-WA) budget proposal, but hey, at least they offer a “balanced approach” by cutting a trillion in spending too, right? Wrong. The “spending cuts” are almost entirely fraudulent. They’re just paperwork shuffles and accounting tricks. It begins with one of the most | Read More »
Trimming Deficits – The Democrat Way
By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary) | March 13th at 05:47 PM |
No wonder Democrats were recalcitrant to propose a budget over the past four years. I’d be embarrassed too. This week Washington Senator Patty Murray, as Chair of the Senate Budget Committee, introduced her budget blueprint for the next 10 years. The headline of her budget is that it achieves $1.85 trillion in deficit reduction, presumably, off the $47.2 trillion CBO baseline. Murray claims that the | Read More »
By Hook Or By Crook, They Will Get Their Revenue
By: Repair_Man_Jack (Diary) | March 13th at 11:00 AM |
In what had to be one of the more epic political understatements of the last five years, President Obama announced in his grandiloquent, condescending manner that he wouldn’t balance the budget just for the sake of balance. Well that’s a relief. Maybe our President could try balancing it so that we don’t wind up allocated a significant chunk of our GDP in the out years to paying off our current year ongoing spending binge. Oh, wait, I get it! The light bulb just turned on. President Obama doesn’t even intend to TRY and balance the Federal Budget. Wow! That makes it easy.
So if we no longer care about balancing the Federal Budget in any way, shape or form, could we all just scrap the idea of jacking everyone’s taxes through the roof. I mean Ben Bernanke will just print us out of any trouble. The dollar is the world’s de facto currency. Our government’s spending is no problem. Therefore, we can all just keep our money and live happily ever after in our Post-Modern, Disney Consumption Land. Barack Obama is far too nice a gentleman to even consider another round of tax increases. Bwank! Thanks for playin’!

This Week in Washington – September 6, 2011
By: Brian Darling (Diary) | September 6th at 06:00 AM |
Both the House and the Senate return from the August recess today with much to do, including the Fiscal Year 2012 appropriations bills, consideration of patent reform and a bill to commemorate 9/11. The highlight of this week in Washington will be President Obama’s Thursday address (campaign speech?) to Congress. The Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction will meet for the first time on Thursday morning. Conservatives | Read More »
DSCC chair Patty Murray tries to get her some Koch campaign cash.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | July 7th at 09:30 PM |
I can almost understand why DSCC chair Sen. Patty Murray would try to hit up the Koch Companies for ‘five figures’ (read: the maximum allowed by federal election campaign finance law). First off, Sen. Murray is not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer (she’d almost have to be, given that Murray actually left a voice message as well as sent a letter*). Second, what’s | Read More »
TX Senate Dem recruit once object of scorn for military interrogations
By: Beltway Whispers (Diary) | April 16th at 05:10 PM |
Did national Democrats’ recruitment of former Iraq commander Ricardo Sanchez transform the Texas Senate race from a blow-out into a marquee 2012 contest? Not a chance, say Republicans eyeing the race. For deep red Texas GOP’ers, the most significant task is clearing the primary field, which includes former solicitor general Ted Cruz, ex-railroad commish Michael Williams, former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and car dealer-turned-secretary of | Read More »

DSCC picks horse in NV, hedges bets in NM and CT
By: Beltway Whispers (Diary) | April 14th at 07:00 PM |
As Nevada Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley announced her Senate bid Thursday and quickly won the backing of her party’s campaign arm, other prominent Senatorial prospects in New Mexico and Connecticut linger without the support of their party. The less fortunate pair, Reps. Chris Murphy and Martin Heinrich, were not extended the Beltway blessing because the former already faces a primary opponent and the latter is | Read More »
The Illegals Are Canvassing
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 25th at 09:16 AM |
Out in Washington State, illegal aliens are canvassing for Patti Murray. That’s right — they are going door to door encouraging people to go vote and vote for Patti Murray. It is not illegal for illegals to go canvassing, other than the part about them being illegal in the first place. But it is rather indicative of the stark differences between Rossi and Murray on | Read More »
Patty Murray’s Attack Ad Redux: Recycled Video May Raise Campaign Finance Questions
By: Bryan Myrick (Diary) | October 23rd at 01:23 AM |
Promoted from diaries. Also: wow. – Moe Lane If you have been getting an annoying sense of déjà vu while watching the air blitz in the U.S. Senate race, it may be because you’ve seen it all before. I’m not referring to Republican challenger Dino Rossi’s previous campaigns for elected office, but instead to a remarkable amount of video and interview footage from Sen. Patty | Read More »
Patty Murray: Washington’s Senator with the Peroxide Touch
By: LaborUnionReport (Diary) | October 19th at 02:30 AM |
Senator Patty Murray [D-WA] is apparently proud of the job she’s done for to Washington state. After all, her job-creating ability is, shall we say…unique? Under Patty Murray’s watch, she’s done a quite job creating jobs. In fact, she’s so talented at creating jobs in other states that the Chambers of Commerce in Illinois and South Carolina should put her on retainer. And, her backing of | Read More »
What’s the cost to taxpayers for Patty Murray’s 911 call to Obama and Biden?
By: Bryan Myrick (Diary) | October 17th at 01:14 PM |
Democrats are hitting the panic button in Washington State as the race between Democratic Senator Patty Murray and Republican challenger Dino Rossi narrows down to the nail-biter many of us knew it would be. How much is Murray’s eleventh-hour 911 call to Pres. Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice Pres. Joe Biden costing taxpayers? After already receiving two visits from the executive branch’s | Read More »
Fresh Washington Volatility
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 14th at 02:00 PM |
I still have the Washington Senate race as one of the four closest, despite Republican Dino Rossi taking a decent lead over Democrat Patty Murray in recent polling. This is why: both candidates have been capable of rattling off good polls, and one new result at any time can come out in favor of either candidate.
My list of the four closest Senate races
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 12th at 07:01 PM |
Later today I will find out what my Senate projection says are the four closest Senate races are, but for now, here are what I think those four currently are, and the latest polling on each: Illinois between Democrat Alexi Giannoulias and Republican Mark Kirk, Nevada between Republican Sharron Angle and Democrat Harry Reid, Washington between Democrat Patty Murray and Republican Dino Rossi, and West | Read More »

Yes, Washington is tied again
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | September 30th at 07:00 PM |
Back when Democrat Patty Murray got several good polls all at once, taking nearly double digit leads over Republican Dino Rossi in the Washington Senate race, I didn’t think it was a fundamental shift of public opinion. I called it a “good week,” and when her leads dropped, I said the race was returning to a tie. The new Rasmussen suggests I was right and | Read More »
Checking in on Washington
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | September 16th at 08:00 PM |
I’m sensing great interest in recent Washington polling. The Elway Poll I’m going to ignore for now, as I’ve picked it apart in the past, and Real Clear Politics had a note on it as well, so I’ll look more closely at the new Rasmussen Reports poll, which shows Democrat Patty Murray retaking the lead from Republican Dino Rossi.
