Romney running away with New Hampshire

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 22nd at 09:30 AM  |

Last time around, Mitt Romney took a blow when he took ‘silver’ in his neighboring state New Hampshire, losing to the man who’d been plotting to win the state since the last contested primary there, John McCain. This time it looks like Romney is going to repeat the McCain strategy. By never having given up on the state since November 2008, Romney looks set to | Read More »

Debt & Jobs dominate GOP FoxNews/Google debate question requests.

By: Moe Lane (Diary)  |  September 20th at 05:20 PM  |

Let me explain this one: there’s a debate Thursday that’s being sponsored by FoxNews & Google. Google is letting people submit questions via YouTube – frankly, this has more than a slight whiff of gimmick about it, but let’s roll with the notion for a moment. The preliminary survey of submitted questions indicate that the top two categories of questions submitted are “Government Spending” and | Read More »

    Gallup: Romney gaining from Bachmann?

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 19th at 07:00 PM  |

The new Gallup poll of the Republican contenders is out, this time with USA TODAY branding. Just looking at the frontrunners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney in isolation, it looks like Romney is gaining. What I find interesting though is where that support appears to be coming from. Romney’s support may be coming from Michele Bachmann.

The state of the race before the Debate

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 13th at 06:00 AM  |

Last night CNN hosted a key Republican Presidential debate, in which Rick Perry took a variety of attacks. This is critical because going into Rick Perry’s first debate, his favorability ratings were great, and his unfavorables were miniscule compared with the field. Let’s see where CNN had the state of the race going into last night.

All eyes turn to Rick Perry

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 2nd at 06:30 PM  |

Attacks on Rick Perry, new Presidential candidate and sudden poll leader, have begun to mount. He will soon take the stage in a debate against the other candidates. His opponents in both parties are determined to leave a mark on him. Let’s take a look at where he’s at as the pressure grows.

    This is really pathetic

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  August 23rd at 09:54 AM  |

This is unsurprising, but also really pathetic. “Conservative” elites are unhappy with the Republican field. Bill Kristol pines for a smart guy. Let me put this in perspective for you. The group of “smart” conservatives who were okay to let No Child Left Behind go through, who did little to oppose Medicare Part D, who advocated for TARP, and endorsed the idea of “big government” | Read More »

The candidates Iowa Republicans don’t want

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 22nd at 09:30 AM  |

By request, we have a somewhat unusual poll: We Ask America asked Iowa Republicans which candidate they don’t want as the Republican Presidential nominee in 2012. As is usual this time of year, the poll is skewed by the inclusion of non-candidates. This time, overwhelmingly so.

Perry shows strength, but Romney’s front running in doubt?

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 18th at 08:00 AM  |

By request I’m taking a look at a new poll of California Republicans by Probolsky Research. It shares problems I’m seeing in many early Presidential polls, but I am surprised at one finding that may be bad news for Mitt Romney.

    On GOProud and CPAC

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  July 29th at 11:30 PM  |

I’d like to put something out there about GOProud, conservatives, and the Republican party. I’m seeing some people having very strong reactions to the ACU’s decision to disallow future Conservative Political Action Conference sponsorship by GOProud. Some of these reactions are coming from people I respect in the greater Republican coalition of right-wing politics. Make no mistake: I have no desire to kick anybody out | Read More »

Questionable CBS Debt Ceiling poll shows odd shifts

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  July 19th at 11:00 AM  |

Yesterday CBS put out a poll on the debt ceiling. As with most issue polling in the heat of debate, everyone’s eager to hype the poll or to discredit it, depending on results. I even get asked to join in. I’m skeptical of all issue polling to begin with, I tend to dismiss the polls entirely. But this poll has a serious weighting problem, and | Read More »

If You Support Mitch McConnell, We Don’t Support You

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  July 18th at 03:15 PM  |

I am instituting a new policy here at RedState. In the future, as we support candidates for the U.S. Senate in Republican Primaries, we will not support any candidate who goes on the record supporting Mitch McConnell as Senate Republican Leader. That does not preclude them from voting for McConnell once they get there if there are no better options. But when looking to endorse | Read More »

Dear House Republicans, This is Your “Time For Choosing”

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  July 15th at 05:00 AM  |

“From here on out, if you lose this fight, every time you balk at expanding government, social security checks will be withheld, medicare payments will be withheld, and in just a few short years, surgeries will be cancelled, vaccinations withheld, and hospitals shuttered.” Dear House Republicans, In the election of 2010, voters sent you to Washington to do two things: (1) End Obamacare and (2) | Read More »

Nancy Pelosi Congratulates Mitch McConnell on His ‘Pontius Pilate Act’. Seriously.

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  July 13th at 09:37 AM  |

If it weren’t bad enough that Harry Reid is trying to make Mitch McConnell‘s ‘Pontius Pilate Pass the Buck Act of 2011″ acceptable to Republicans, you might want to consider that Nancy Pelosi congratulated Mitch McConnell on a job well done. Harry Reid Tries to Make Mitch McConnell’s ‘Pontius Pilate Act’ More Appealing to Republicans

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  July 13th at 09:19 AM  |

Just how pathetic is Mitch McConnell‘s ‘Pontius Pilate Pass the Buck Act of 2011,’ his proposal to let the President automatically raise the debt ceiling by $2 trillion without any cuts so long as the GOP doesn’t get blamed? Harry Reid is intervening to make it more palatable to Republicans. Publicly, Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) left the door open to the idea. | Read More »

The President Declares He Will Shoot His Hostages

By: Erick Erickson (Diary)  |  July 13th at 05:00 AM  |

Everyone is using the hostage metaphor these days regarding the debt ceiling. Barack Obama started it back in December when he called the GOP hostage takers before the GOP gave him everything he wanted. Well, I hope the GOP noticed Barack Obama yesterday upped the ante and declared his willingness to shoot his hostages, i.e. senior citizens. Yes, if the GOP dares to hold the | Read More »
