Have Confidence in Our Kids: An Anecdotal Report on Obama’s School Speech
Granville High Schools gave students a choice of watching the President’s speech or attending their regular classes. We have a 17 year old, V, living with us this year: Me: Did you go to the speech? V: No, I decided I did not want to hear Obama. Me: How many kids went? V: I would say most. Me: What did the kids who went say about | Read More »
New Republic Editor: Parents “Disloyal” for Not Having Kids Listen to President Obama
Marty Peretz of the New Republic is usually a thoughtful liberal. I enjoy the New Republic. That’s why I was rather stunned by this article. Some parents don’t like the idea of the President beeming his image into every school in the country on Tuesday. I think a lot of people have gotten carried away with criticizing the president on this, but I’ll admit that I dislike it, | Read More »
Yeah, well like, prolly if we all went to school in, like, California…
See more funny videos and funny pictures at CollegeHumor. Kinda makes you want to shoot an educator, doesn’t it. I hate diaries that don’t have much in the way of author commentary, but really, there’s not much left to be said. HT HotAir
Why do Democrats Hate Our Soldier’s Kids?
Last Friday the Wall Street Journal once again excoriated the president and his henchmen in that mis-educational system so larded with self-interested union thugs (and other Democrats) by pointing out how these ne’er-do-wells are attempting to kill the D.C. school voucher program that has done so much good for so many minority, inner city kids in the Nation’s capitol. But the end of the editorial | Read More »
Teachers Union Up In Arms About… Smoking?
As America’s dumbest generation gets dumber, teachers unions stand as an important stepping stone to educating our youth. Unfortunately, the stepping stones that the unions represent are paving a road to ruin as opposed to one of success. Still, one teachers union in Pennsylvania has used its power to great effect. Sadly, the effect is not one that has anything to do with education. On | Read More »
ACLU: Know What WE Need? Schools That Are Like Porn Shops
Most people imagine that our schools are to be institutes of higher learning. Apparently the ACLU has a little different conception of what “higher learning” means because it is demanding that public schools in Nashville, Tennessee allow gay advocacy sites to go unblocked at library Internet stations throughout the Metro Nashville District. The porn peddlers of the ACLU have given the Metro schools a “deadline” | Read More »
Tornado ravaged Chapman, KS to spend $80,000 or more per student to rebuild schools?
Chapman Elementary School in August 2008 Much of Chapman, Kansas, which is about 140 miles west of Kansas City, was leveled by a tornado on June 11, 2008. The tornado killed one woman and cut a path six blocks wide through much of the community of about 1250. All three of Chapman’s public schools were heavily damaged by the storm. The USD 473 School Board | Read More »
Teen Suicide Brings Wrong Call for Regulation
No one wants to see a beautiful 18-year-old girl commit suicide. No one wants to make any worse the pain that surviving family members feel. No one wants to make light of the situation that causes a child or young person to chose suicide, either. But high emotion makes for bad laws and this is no exception. Last year, Jessica Logan imagined that she was | Read More »
Free Speech For Students… Unless You’re Christian, That Is
Our institutes of “higher” learning are all about being inclusive. They are stridently for freedom of speech and stand 100% behind the concept of open political debate. Well, unless you’re a Christian, that is. Christians, you see, are the only group that our fetid colleges and universities have agreed to discriminate against. Last week, another example of that well known “tolerance” our schools are so | Read More »
A proposal for a stimulus catchphrase: “schools for nobody”
I’ve seen mention various places, among others RedState, of a portion of the so-called stimulus bill that allocates money to build unneeded schools in Milwaukee. To briefly recap, here’s a summary of it by the WSJ in the best paragraph of that story: The Milwaukee Public School system, for example, would receive $88.6 million over two years for new construction projects under the House version | Read More »
Chicago Area College Fighting Over Adopting Student’s Bill of Rights
In the midst of the Obama coronation in Washington this week, school board member Sheila Patterson of the Jackson Public School System in Jackson, Michigan told teachers in her district that if they don’t show Barack Obama’s inauguration in the class room they should just “go home.” Patterson further told teachers that if they didn’t show the ceremony they “don’t belong in this school district.” | Read More »
“Hit A Jew Day” At Suburban St. Louis Middle School
“Hit A Jew Day” – Linked story at CBS News Website I’m kind of at a loss here. Yes, I’m Jewish by heritage. Did the whole Bar-Mitzvah thing, married and then divorced through the religion and I certainly believe in a just and almighty God. But when I see something like this, tears are what comes first, then outrage and deep anger. Also, there is | Read More »
