URGENT: Last few hours to stop the Boehner Tax Hike
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 20th at 11:09 AM |
Later today, the House of Representatives will vote on a major tax increase. This disastrous idea is being pushed by Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor and will do nothing other than put Republicans on record supporting tax increases that should be the sole responsibility of President Obama. Fortunately, groups like Club for Growth and Heritage Action for America are opposing the bill. | Read More »

With Apologies to Governor Haley, Congressman Scott, and the South Carolina Press
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 18th at 08:08 PM |
This morning I made a dumb and careless mistake. Yesterday, at 11:20 a.m., about 40 minutes before the official announcement, Governor Haley and Congressmen Scott called me to give me an advanced notice of the announcement and let me ask questions. We chatted, according to my iPhone, for 8 minutes. For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you know two things — since | Read More »
Welcome to the Senate, Mr. Scott
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 18th at 04:30 AM |
Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina leaves the Senate on December 31st. Replacing him will be Congressman Tim Scott. Yesterday, Governor Nikki Haley made the announcement that she would choose Congressman Scott for the replacement. Governor Haley and the future Senator called me Friday Monday* morning before the announcement was made. Governor Haley emphasized that Senator Scott would be as independent as Senator DeMint. Two Roads Diverged: Jim DeMint Leaves U.S. Senate for Heritage Foundation Presidency
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 6th at 10:29 AM |
I got the call before the news went out. Jim DeMint, the standard bearer of the conservative movement in America and conservative king maker, is leaving the United States Senate. He will succeed Ed Feulner as President of the Heritage Foundation. While my initial reaction was one of sadness that we are losing the clearest voice in the Senate for conservatives, the upside on Jim | Read More »
Reflecting on the RedState Gathering
By: Aaron Gardner (Diary) | August 15th at 10:00 PM |
This past weekend I had the pleasure of, once again, attending the RedState Gathering. I began my 90 mile drive to the nearest airport at 4 am Friday morning. Two flights later and I was in Charleston before lunch. I arrived at the hotel and checked in to my room before meeting up with Erick and Neil to go to Staples and Chick-Fil-A. This was | Read More »

RS Gathering: Tim Scott (R, SC-01).
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | August 13th at 10:00 PM |
Tim Scott was elected last year on a general reform slate in South Carolina: he was one of the candidates that we took an interest in, so it was great that he got to speak with our readers Friday night. Afterward, we spoke with Tim briefly: Sound was a little off at first: we had some motivated listeners Friday night.
100 Billion Dollar Backlash
By: Ali A. Akbar (Diary) | January 8th at 11:07 AM |
Promoted from the diaries by Dan Spencer. “We will roll back government spending to pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels, saving us at least $100 billion in the first year alone,” plainly reads a section now under much scrutiny in the House Republican’s ‘A Pledge to America.’ It was a section that was written by the now Majority Whip, Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California’s 22nd district. Unfortunately an | Read More »

Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are The Cheetahs.
By: Susannah (Diary) | June 27th at 01:22 PM |
[This diary is my reporting on Tim Scott's Tuesday night victory party. I'm sorry that it's so late, but I had a medical board exam on Thursday and Friday that I had to travel to Atlanta, GA to take, and I just got back late Saturday night.] From 2010-06-27 From 2010-06-27 As many of you are aware, I recently wrote a diary titled, “Tim Scott | Read More »

Freedom and the Fight.
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | June 23rd at 05:00 AM |
It was 1:25 a.m. on November 5, 2008. The Republicans had just lost badly. Barack Obama had given his victory speech. Jesse Jackson had cried. And I was tired. I sat down at my computer and wrote this post entitled “The After. The Before. The Future, Present, and Past.” The subtitle was “The Day After and the Day After That, We’ll Fight On.” I was | Read More »
Jon Lerner: Winner
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | June 23rd at 01:56 AM |
Friends, if you are still up at this late hour you know Mike Lee won in Utah. We beat Bob Bennett twice — first at the convention and second by beating his chosen successor. We beat the Chamber of Commerce and the GOP establishment back in DC with this race. But we need to raise a glass to a man many of you have never | Read More »
State of the Race: Tim Scott (R CAND, SC-01).
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | June 13th at 03:41 PM |
Tim is the front-runner in the GOP primary runoff for SC-01, and he took the time to talk with us about the state of the race and why he’s running. Tim’s site is here: he’s a state representative and former Charleston County official. The runoff is June 22nd. There’s been a good deal of interest among RedState’s readers about this race thus far, and I | Read More »

By: Susannah (Diary) | June 11th at 09:29 PM |
Promoted from the diaries. -ed. OK – as many of you are aware, I recently wrote a diary about a congressional candidate from Charleston, SC (my hometown) by the name of Tim Scott. Tim Scott is running for Congress to represent the 1st district of SC in the US House of Representatives. The Republican Primary took place on June the 8th and Tim Scott won | Read More »
