It’s Called Tough Love
Some may say this is a strange time to bring up this issue, but it’s the right time to discuss where our money is going and why. Obama has set aside about 263 billion for welfare assistance for 2009 and 2010, which equates to about 2 and 1/2 times more then any welfare increase in our history. His original buget projects was an increase of 10 | Read More »
Out Of Work? Become An Unexpected Activist
Yesterday, the NY Times continued its’ attack upon any and all attached in some way to the Tea Party movements; this time those who are unemployed and having the gall to accept unemployment or other low income subsidies. When Tom Grimes lost his job as a financial consultant 15 months ago, he called his congressman, a Democrat, for help getting government health care. […] Though, | Read More »
Good News: Food Stamp Use Soaring; Stigma Gone
Update: The Times piece quoted here skates too quickly over the questions of how one qualifies for food stamps, and what requirements are imposed on recipients (particularly with regard to work). Put briefly, most food stamp recipients appear to be required to work, but waivers exist, some still receive benefits without working, and (of course) fraud dilutes the requirements. Check out the comment section for | Read More »
Was Jesus A Socialist?
There is a charge among some left-leaning professed Christians that conservative social policies neglect Christ’s commission to minister to the poor. Does the parable of the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25 imply Christians should petition their government to enforce “redistributive justice?” Jack Clark thinks so. We excerpt Clark’s podcast, Blast the Right, and consider his “equivalent alternative solutions challenge;” it is fine to | Read More »
, Health Care
The mass-murdering, totalitarian socialization in Russia and Germany, led by Lenin/Stalin and Hitler bears little resemblance to modern European socialization and what’s happening in America. Our socialization is based neither on Marxist class struggle nor race domination, but the principles of socialization are basically the same, motivated by cloudy ideas of social justice and equality, led by elite technocrats, not a tyrannical individual with a private goon squad or professional | Read More »
Health care is not a right
Health care is not a right. The topic came up again last night on Hannity. Hannity had a very interesting Great American Panel last night. Bob Beckel, Redstate’s own Erick Erickson, and singer/Playboy model Aubrey O’Day were the guests. After discussing a program that U.S. tax dollars are funding in Africa that provides sex education to 5-year olds, the talked turned to health care. O’Day | Read More »
Deval Patrick Takes Welfare Back to the 1970s
Democrats often tell us that one critical difference between the two parties is that the Democrats are more giving and compassionate. I’m not sure if that’s true in general, but it’s true in at least one important respect: Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is giving Republicans a huge political issue. The State of Massachusetts faces a severe budget shortfall, and Governor Patrick is using nearly $1 | Read More »
Light Houses and a Lobster Museum
Greetings From The Welfare State. Fox News is the Greatest, I don’t have the time to read over 1,000 pages of a BiLL. So I have to rely on them to point out what my Whacked out Senators think the American people should pay for. Light House Reconstruction, A Lobster Museum. Lets take the Light Houses First. Light Houses in Maine are our State Treasures. | Read More »
The Nouveau Welfare Class
So I was at the grocery store last Friday, the 13th of March 2009, buying my weekly groceries. Shopping went normally. Grapes where running $1.49 a pound, so I picked up a small bag to add to my bananas for fruit for the week. Near the checkout, the 12 or less line was empty, but I passed by it to go to the normal amount | Read More »
Does Barack Obama Want Black Children to be Poorer?
In 1996 Congress passed and Bill Clinton signed the welfare reforms that for the first time in 20 years caused poverty statistics for black children to fall to unprecedented lows during the modern welfare era. In 1996, Barack Obama was against these reforms. In 2009, with his giant welfare bill he calls a “stimulus plan,” Barack Obama has eliminated these reforms. Watch this video to | Read More »
Welfare Queens Make a Comeback
Following up on Moe’s point that Mickey Kaus notices Obama’s Porkulus eradicates the 1996 reform of welfare, the London Telegraph puts in perspective what has happened. The dangers are beginning to pile up for the novice president and his struggling economic crew. Tim Geithner, his treasury secretary, tripped up with opaque attempts to explain how the administration would fix the banking crisis, while from every | Read More »
Capitalism is the Catalyst for Charity . . .
Americans work hard for their wealth, probably harder than any other country in the world. We do all sorts of different things with the wealth that we work for each year. We pay for our food and nourishments, taxes, pets, car and transportation needs, gas and energy bills, and a variety of other resources and materials that we get and benefit from in exchange for | Read More »
