225 Days until Election Day

MORNING UPDATE:
State budget battles start…Governor Granholm and the Democrats want to spend money we don’t have…again. Does someone see a pattern?

The Governor and her Democrat cronies are proposing to “borrow” if needed, and once again put Michigan taxpayers at risk. NO reforms, NO cuts, NO living within ones’ means??? Taxpayers…are you listening? Why are we losing jobs? Why are people leaving our state? Why are college graduates (our future) looking elsewhere for work?

How's that head feeling this morning?  It's rough, isn't it?  Almost makes you regret last night.  Assuming you remember anything that happened last night in the first place.  That much green beer will do that to you.  But don't worry, you found some way to make it home safe in the wee hours of the morning and that's something, now isn't it.

Posted at 9:37am on Feb. 15, 2008 I said there was something in the air yesterday and today's news is full of proof

Yesterday I suggested that if it wasn't love there was certainly something in the air.  After following everything that happened in the news yesterday I'm more convinced there was something going around in the atmosphere.  Maybe the water.  Or it could have been that "First Quarter" moon.  Because folks were acting a little bit off.

Nowhere were actions stranger than in Washington, D.C. where Michigan Congressman Bart Stupak made a statement and a demand that no Democrat in Lansing has found the nerve to make in years.  The Associated Press reports that the Congressman has his sites set on a federal department head because a specific failure on his watch led to several deaths.  Several deaths nationwide.  That means across the whole country.

A key House Democrat said Thursday that the head of the Food and Drug Administration should resign in the wake of a probe over an antibiotic and news of a blood thinner linked to allergic reactions and four deaths.

Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., who heads an investigative panel that conducts oversight of the agency, said in an interview with The Associated Press that FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach should step down because "it's just a total lack of leadership."

Now contrast that with the behavior of Michigan Democrats, including Stupak, towards the former head of the Michigan Department of Human Services and the current crop of bureaucrats overseeing the department.  In this one state alone we've had more children killed under the watch of DHS than the United States of America saw fatalities from this one drug.

And there's nothing but silence from the Democrats in Lansing.  And worse, the lefty echo chamber has risen to the defense of the leaders who've failed these kids, they've blame shifted and they've passed the buck.  Worse, many of them have used fatal departmental failures to angle for tax hikes.

Stupak demands a resignation because "it's just a total lack of leadership."  Yet we have a larger problem in a smaller area right here in our own backyard and the Dem mantra remains "just give us more money!"  How about demanding results and maintaining accountability?  Novel idea.  I know.  Don't worry, I don't actually expect anyone on that side of the aisle to sprout a conscience overnight.

Just look out, Congressman.  If they hold to form Tom Casperson won't be the only person looking to move you on out of office.  You criticized the bureaucracy and the left just plain won't tolerate that.  You were supposed to call a press conference and to ask for an increase in spending for the FDA, not use that "L" word.  (No.  Not that one.  Leadership.)

And, Right Michigan reader, if you think that that's crazy... well, you don't know anything about crazy.  Not until you've visited the alien planet Congressman John Conyer's wife Monica lives on these days.  It's a magical realm where you can show up late to meetings, start wasting a groups time by talking about issues they'd discussed when you were off doing whatever else you were off doing and then if someone tells you to shut it you can just publicly threaten his life while attempting to physically assault him.

Oh, and the best part?  You can make these threats and then ask for protection from the U.S. Marshals because you didn't like being called a name.  The Detroit News reports:

According to the police report filed Thursday by DeDan Milton, an assistant to Kilpatrick, Conyers "threatened to shoot (Milton) with her gun" and made "several aggressive movements" toward Milton "in a threatening manner."

Milton also reported to police that Conyers said she would "have my brothers (mess) you up."
