The Al Franken Ignorance Tale
By Erick
You may think that’s an odd title for a blog post about comedian and Senate candidate Al Franken, but those are his words. In his book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, Franken attempts to paint anyone who disagrees with him as a liar or worse. Ironically enough, this book has put the failed radio host on a path of lies and deceit, due to his failure to pay for workers’ compensation while the book was being written and researched.
Franken’s defense…ignorance. While this may apply to Franken in most cases, it is a hard sell in this instance. In order to believe Franken’s claims of ignorance on his corporate governance problems you must believe totally disregarding reality:
• Franken claims he never knew about his New York problems because he moved to Minnesota in April of 2005. To believe this you must also believe these additional Franken claims:
1. Franken never received, or knew about, any of the dozen notices sent to him by the state of New York regarding his failure to pay worker’s compensation insurance
2. Franken never received any notices or heard from the collection agency hired by the state of New York to collect the workers’ compensation insurance premiums Franken failed to pay
• To believe Franken’s claims of ignorance you must ignore the following facts:

This man will say and do anything to get elected.

Barack Obama is an addict. We need to just admit it. Actually, he needs to admit it -- that's the first step to recovery.
Obama is addicted to lying. He just can't help himself. Another day, another lie. Today, it's on the teamsters.
The Wall Street Journal reports Obama wants to scrap federal government oversight of the Teamsters.

Posted at 1:22pm on Apr. 30, 2008 Al Franken Implements Senator Harry Reid's "Voluntary" Taxation Strategy
By Jenn Sierra
Last month, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) tried to convince Jan Helfeld that taxation is voluntary. Of course for high-powered Democrats like Harry Reid, details such as accurately disclosing one's income and property apparently is optional.
So, Al Franken, who is trying to get one of those U.S. Democratic Senate jobs (Minnesota) where taxation is "voluntary," yesterday announced that he has chosen to pay $70K in state income taxes to 17 states over the last five tax years. Why didn't he voluntarily do this before? Well, it's his accountant's fault, of course.
In the true spirit of today's Democratic Party, insiders are happy to report that a revelation of tax evasion by their candidate in 17 states has not significantly damaged his Senate campaign in Minnesota...they'll continue to watch the polls to determine whether he's fit to represent taxpayers in the United States Senate. A word of caution, however:
DFL insiders say Al Franken committed a huge blunder by not hiring an independent opposition researcher to see what dirt could be dug up on him before he launched his candidacy.
So, apparently, if you're a Democrat, taxation is voluntary, but you need to cover your financial tracks better if you're smack-dab in the middle of an election campaign.

Posted at 11:52am on Apr. 17, 2008 The Daily Pinocchiobama Lie: Obama lies about the flag
By Erick
My God in Heaven, this guy is just blogger gold! Seriously folks, for all the talk that lefties have about Bush lying, what they actually usually mean is that Bush does what he says and they can't believe he'd actually do that!
Obama, on the other hand, is rapidly earning the label Pinocchiobama. Hat tip to Jim Gergahty for this one. I missed the torture exercise debate.
Last night, Obama said, "I have never said that I don't wear flag pins or refuse to wear flag pins."
As we chronicled the other day, in October 2007, Obama said:
Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest.
Oh, I get it. This is just lawyering out of it again (he's good at lawyering out since, as his wife said, she's a lawyer, he's a lawyer, and "everybody [they] know are lawyers.").
He said he wouldn't wear one on his "chest" not that he wouldn't wear one. No doubt he had a little flag lapel pin on his underwear.

Posted at 9:25am on Apr. 16, 2008 I've lost count of the Obama lies, but here is another one involving his ties to Nadhmi Auchi, friend of Saddam
By Erick
So, Michelle Obama tells a crowd "Barack's a lawyer, I'm a lawyer, everybody we know are lawyers."
Maybe *that* explains why he relies on so many half truths and half facts and denial, non-denails to skirt the issue of whether he is in fact lying. Here's a new one he is going to have a hard time getting out of.
Soren filled you in on Nadmi Auchi, an associate of Saddam Hussein's who helped Saddam in his rise to power. Obama attended a reception for Auchi at Tony Rezko's house. Auchi gave Rezko a bunch of money shortly before Rezko subsidized Obama's house purchase. Auchi later was convicted of fraud in France.
Naturally, Obama denied any association with Auchi and did not "remember" this whole party for Auchi. Yet again, we have an Obama lie.
Dem presidential contender Barack Obama's handlers may be telling the press Obama has NO "recollection" of a 2004 party at influence peddler Tony Rezko's Wilmette house, but a top Sneed source claims Obama not only gave Rezko's guest of honor, Iraqi billionaire Nadhmi Auchi, a big welcome . . . but he made a few toasts!
Some of you are still dwelling on the bit about Michelle Obama saying everyone they know are lawyers. Yeah, that whole "I'm just like you guys" thing is another we can add to the lie list with the Auchi one.
Man I hope this guy beats Hillary.
Pinocchiobama strikes again.

Posted at 8:07am on Apr. 16, 2008 Obama: Just your typical politician, only he lies more
But his nose is turned up higher than most
By Erick
I thought Obama was as pure as the driven snow. I thought Obama, when he used the bathroom, left behind him the aroma of cinnamon and flowers. I thought Obama was driven by a passion for this country's better days and a love for dew covered fresh grass on a cool spring day.
Apparently he's as full of crap as the rest of them, but lies a heck of a lot more and looks down on the little guys a whole lot more.
Remember his whole "I'm not tainted by lobbyists" bit? We knew it was B.S. just from him taking money from lobbyists when he said he had not. Today, in the media's new quest to drown him in ink to save the Democrats, USA Today draws blood.
Barack Obama often boasts he is "the only candidate who isn't taking a dime from Washington lobbyists," yet his fundraising team includes 38 members of law firms that were paid $138 million last year to lobby the federal government, records show. Those lawyers, including 10 former federal lobbyists, have pledged to raise at least $3.5 million for the Illinois senator's presidential race. Employees of their firms have given Obama's campaign $2.26 million, a USA TODAY analysis of campaign-finance data shows.
Thirty-one of the 38 are law firm partners, who typically receive a share of their firms' lobbying fees. At least six of them have some managerial authority over lobbyists.
"It makes no difference whether the person is a registered lobbyist or the partner of a registered lobbyist, if the person is raising money to get access or curry favor," said Michael Malbin, director of the Campaign Finance Institute, a non-partisan think tank.
Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said that while Obama's refusal to take money from lobbyists "isn't a perfect solution … it does reflect Obama's record of trying to change the way that Washington does business." He declined to elaborate.
The Obama's campaign strategy is rapidly boiling down to this one point: if we say "change Washington" enough times, people will believe it.
More and more, all Obama is actually showing us is that his nose is turned up higher than the rest of us, and he actually thinks we are so dumb that he can get away with cynical little ploys.
I think his 15 minutes are just about up.

Posted at 10:42am on Apr. 14, 2008 Barack Obama: Do as he says, not as he does.
By Erick
Here is what Obama is going to say today.
But if those same candidates are taking millions of dollars in contributions from the PACs and lobbyists, ask yourself, who are they going to be toasting once the election is over?I’m the only candidate who doesn’t take money from corporate PACs and lobbyists, and I’m here to tell you that you can count on me to stand up for you after this election, just as I’ve been standing up for workers all my life. That’s why I’m running for President of the United States.
Of course, here is what Obama actually does.
Last fall, Barack Obama quietly slipped into the Miami headquarters of a major law firm scarred by the scandals of Jack Abramoff, its once-powerful Washington lobbyist who now sits in jail.Arriving a little after 10 a.m. on Oct. 1, Obama spent the next three hours schmoozing, speaking in a video conference to branch offices and raising money at Greenberg Traurig, a billion-dollar firm with one of the biggest lobby shops here.
Obama has now raised about $125,000 from Greenberg Traurig employees -- nearly half of it at the time of the event -- more than from any of the other top law and lobby firms.
Symbolically, it was a starkly contradictory event: an appearance by the candidate who crusades most adamantly against lobbyists at the onetime firm of the poster child for out-of-control influence peddling.
Why is it liberals always want us to do as they say, not as they do? Of course he's not a hypocrite. Don't accuse him of being a hypocrite. He's a Democrat. Democrats can't be hypocrites. You actually have to stand for something to be a hypocrite.
Oh wait, does he stand for . . . . Nah. Never mind.

Posted at 11:40am on Apr. 1, 2008 Another Barack Obama Lie
By Erick
Maybe when Barack Obama says he's not your typical politician, he really means he lies *even more* than your typical politician.
Leon's chronicled one lie about his liberal interest. Jeff had another lie about his church involvement. Below, Haystack chronicles another lie about his Iraq policy. Now, Jake Tapper has another one.
Obama has a new ad out excoriating Exxon for making millions of Americans money in their retirement accounts. Then he says, "I’m Barack Obama. I don’t take money from oil companies or Washington lobbyists, and I won’t let them block change anymore."
Well, okay, but Mr. Fabulist is really stretching there. Tapper notes that Factcheck.org has called out Obama on this
and concludes that the statement "misleading" since according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics Obama has taken more than $213,000 from individuals (and their spouses) who work for companies in the oil and gas industry -- not to mention that two of Obama's top fundraisers are top executives at oil companies"It is literally true that Obama doesn't take money from oil companies. No federal candidate does -- corporations have been banned from direct contributions since 1907.
So yes, Obama did not take the legal maximum donation from Chevron's PAC of $5,000.00. He just took $9,500.00 from oil company employees -- more than could have been given by the company itself.

Posted at 10:00pm on Mar. 17, 2008 "GOD DAMN AMERICA!!" (and other stories straight from the Bible)
It's not the action that sinks you...it's the lying about it
By Jeff Emanuel
If there's one lesson that has been abundantly clear from the fall of public figures over the last few years -- Bill Clinton, Roger Clemens, Rafael Palmeiro, Eliot Spitzer, Mike Vick, Alberto Gonzales, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera -- it is that the bad deed is not what does in the person who commits it; rather, it is the persistent lying about it that does.
Barack Obama's continued pathetic attempts to spin (read: lie about) the situation regarding his involvement with Jeremiah Wright's black-separatist megachurch shows that he, like all of those listed above and so many more, is afflicted with the same elitist mindset that drove the others to maintain that they were innocent of those things which they were rightly accused of.
"Those other guys got caught, but they'll never catch me"--or some variant thereof -- seems to drive these elitist jackasses to deny, deny, deny in the face of all evidence and logic. Somehow, they will be the ones who don't get caught, despite the fact that history shows they will, sooner or later, have to pay the piper in some form or another.
In this case, Barack Obama is spinning like a top trying to marginalize his association with the pastor of his church. The fact that this pastor, Jeremiah Wright, was chosen by Barack and Michelle to officiate their wedding and to baptize one of their children, and served as the inspiration for the title of Obama's autobiography is making that feat a little bit tougher than Barack "The H is for Hope, not Hussein!" Obama might wish. But don't worry -- Obama is convinced enough of your stupidity and of his superiority that he'll keep spinning and lying until he has talked himself into a corner from which there is no escape.
Read on.

Posted at 8:32am on Mar. 9, 2008 Hillary's Al Gore Problem
it's the internet all over again
By streiff
One of the traits of Dem politicians with a tissue thin resume is the willingness to lie about what they have accomplished and the expectation that we will believe it.
Now Nobel laureate and former Northern Ireland First Minister David Trimble has called Hillary out on her grotesque inflation of her role in negotiating the Good Friday Agreement.
Central to Mrs Clinton’s claim of an important Northern Ireland role is a meeting she attended in Belfast in with a group of women from cross-community groups. "I actually went to Northern Ireland more than my husband did," she said in Nashua, New Hampshire on January 6th.
"I remember a meeting that I pulled together in Belfast, in the town hall there, bringing together for the first time Catholics and Protestants from both traditions, having them sitting a room where they had never been before with each other because they don’t go to school together, they don’t live together and it was only in large measure because I really asked them to come that they were there.
"And I wasn’t sure it was going to be very successful and finally a Catholic woman on one side of the table said, ’You know, every time my husband leaves for work in the morning I worry he won’t come home at night.
"And then a Protestant woman on the other side said, ’Every time my son tries to go out at night I worry he won’t come home again’. And suddenly instead of seeing each other as caricatures and stereotypes they saw each other as human beings and the slow, hard work of peace-making could move forward."
There is no record of a meeting at Belfast City Hall, though Mrs Clinton attended a ceremony there when her husband turned on the Christmas tree lights in November 1995.
To which Lord Trimble says: "I don’t know there was much she did apart from accompanying Bill [Clinton] going around[.]"
In other words, she has the same experience negotiating the GFA as she has answering the "3 AM" phone calls. None.
