Posted at 5:03pm on Apr. 25, 2008 It's like every day is Christmas.

A petulant, identity politics-driven, malignantly Other-obsessed Christmas.

By Moe Lane

Today's edition (via TalkLeft): Keith Olbermann[*] calls for Senator Hillary Clinton to be taken out and killed.

...at least, he did by the somewhat flexible standards traditionally used by the Online Left to judge any and all statements made by members of the Right, and isn't that really what's important, here?

Best.
Primary.
EVER.

Moe Lane

PS: Before you start yelling at me, consider this: Jeralyn's being the calm one about this. At least one of the bloggers that she links to is seriously suggesting that Olbermann may be calling for Senator Clinton to be raped. And I'm going to guess that possibly a few of the others linked to merely found it impolitic to publicly agree with that take on the matter.

PPS: None of this should be taken as a suggestion that people stop screaming at Olbermann, mind you. Lord knows he's earned his bad kharma.

[*Let me clarify something, by the way: in case it wasn't obvious, I find Olbermann to be an abjectly stupid, unmitigated ass who has a history of saying offensive things much like this. I also can see why people wouldn't give him the benefit of the doubt; heck, I'll happily and cynically beat him with this myself. But his major mistake here was to make an own-goal; if he had stuck to Republican females he would have been fine with 95% of the people incensed now.]

Posted at 9:26am on Apr. 25, 2008 Odd that he seems to loathe Tiger Woods so.

We'll skip over the blatant misogyny for the moment*.

By Moe Lane

Ed Morrissey gives us some context on Reverend Wright, which is only surprising in that the reverend seems to be especially worked up about, of all things, the success of a sports star:

For every one Tiger Woods, who needs to get beat, at the Masters, with his cap, blazin’ hips playing on a course that discriminates against women. God has his way of bringing you up short when you get to big for your cap, blazin britches. For every one Tiger Woods, we got 10,000 black kids who will never see a golf course.

Mind you, Mr. Woods actually tries to do something about that. Which may, in fact, be the problem here: or at least, the way that he's going about doing it. Flipping through the foundation pages, I saw quite a bit about making a positive change and nothing at all about blaming other people for one's problems. Go figure, huh?

Ed references the First Rule of Holes in his tease-quote. Senator Obama's supporters should start hoping that someone in his campaign has the audacity to read Hot Air.

Posted at 3:06pm on Apr. 24, 2008 Coming Down from the Ledge Watch: the Preliminary walkback from the antiwar movement.

And may I note that it's about flipping time?

By Moe Lane

The Sun notices something (Via Glenn):

A funny thing happened on the way to Senator Clinton’s primary win Tuesday night in Pennsylvania, her party started moving back toward reality on the war. It may not be all the way, yet. but it turned in the right direction. And it’s not just that the former first lady’s campaign ran ads asking whether Senator Obama was ready to handle international crises as a president and featuring, for the first time of any ads in the campaign, the image of Osama bin Laden. Mrs. Clinton herself began to come back to reality on the next front — Iran.

The entire editorial is interesting in its own right (as is this retreat from confrontation on funding the war), but I'm mostly bringing it up as part of an observation that I've finally fully articulated, and thought I'd share with various no-doubt bemused individuals; to wit, why it is that we go after Obama hammer and tongs on natsec issues but largely give Clinton a pass. It's actually very simple: we don't believe a word she says on the issue, which makes her more reliable.

No, really.

Posted at 8:40am on Apr. 23, 2008 Seven... Yes, by God: right now it *is* Seven of Nine.

Something droll about that, yes?

By Moe Lane

California.
Texas.
New York.
Florida.
Illinois.
Pennsylvania.
Ohio.
Michigan.
Georgia.
North Carolina.

These are the top ten populous states. According to Wikipedia, they represent 53.42% of the USA's population.

The Democrats currently have as their front-runner a man who couldn't win seven* of them. A man who couldn't win two of the three reliably Blue states**. A man who won none of the four*** that are generally considered to be battleground states this year.

But hey: he won Idaho and Wyoming, right?

Best.
Primary.

Posted at 12:28pm on Apr. 21, 2008 Wow, Senator Clinton. Thanks.

All we have to do is cut off the last three seconds of this...

By Moe Lane

...replace it with a similar approval from Senator McCain, and we've got a hypothetical McCain campaign ad for the national election:

(Via Hot Air)

I say "hypothetical" because it presumes that that the only candidate left that it'd work on is the Democratic nominee. Clever of you to find a method of attack that doesn't get in the way of the VRWC; not that we're not going to go after you in the general anyway, of course.

Posted at 9:55am on Apr. 19, 2008 It lacked only this.

You ever watch a *real* fencing match?

By Moe Lane

Not that stylized stuff that they show at the Olympics. Not even the limited-contact bouts that they do in the historical reenactment societies; I'm talking about old-school, full-contact, Italian Renaissance fencing. Bouts of that often ended with both fighters on the floor grappling each other and trying to pull knives.

HuffPo is looking for its knife.

At a small closed-door fundraiser after Super Tuesday, Sen. Hillary Clinton blamed what she called the "activist base" of the Democratic Party -- and MoveOn.org in particular -- for many of her electoral defeats, saying activists had "flooded" state caucuses and "intimidated" her supporters, according to an audio recording of the event obtained by The Huffington Post.

"Moveon.org endorsed [Sen. Barack Obama] -- which is like a gusher of money that never seems to slow down," Clinton said to a meeting of donors. "We have been less successful in caucuses because it brings out the activist base of the Democratic Party. MoveOn didn't even want us to go into Afghanistan. I mean, that's what we're dealing with. And you know they turn out in great numbers. And they are very driven by their view of our positions, and it's primarily national security and foreign policy that drives them. I don't agree with them. They know I don't agree with them. So they flood into these caucuses and dominate them and really intimidate people who actually show up to support me."

(H/T: Hot Air)

Read on... after you read Byron York's old post on Rove, MoveOn.org, and why the latter is full of it when it piously claims that it never, ever opposed the war in Afghanistan. That little lie of theirs is not really important to this post, but I thought that it probably should have been at least noted for the BS that it was.

OK, now read on.

Posted at 1:03pm on Apr. 18, 2008 Howard Dean to PA, NC, IN, WV, KY, OR, SD, MT, GU, PR: We can no longer afford to care about what you think.

Couple that with MI & FL, and we're down to a *4*0-State Strategy. And counting.

By Moe Lane

Chairman Dean, what exactly is it that you do all day? Because while I may just be a Republican - one of those people that you hate, as well as hate everything that I stand for - I have to say: if your job is to help the Democratic Party grow and thrive, you're not precisely doing the best job at it. This was not a smart thing to say at this point in the game:

Dean: I need a decision 'now'

(CNN)— An increasingly firm Howard Dean told CNN again Thursday that he needs superdelegates to say who they’re for – and “I need them to say who they’re for starting now.”

“We cannot give up two or three months of active campaigning and healing time,” the Democratic National Committee Chairman told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “We’ve got to know who our nominee is.”

Posted at 10:33am on Apr. 5, 2008 Will Hillary Clinton accept the endorsement of a man who thinks Barack Obama's a tool of the KKK?

...Well, it's not like he's a likely supporter of *McCain,* right?

By Moe Lane

Fair's fair: if I can - and cheerfully will - ask pointed questions of Senator Obama about his seeming popularity among groups that derived nigh-sexual pleasure from the torment of people like Senator McCain, the least that I can do is to bring up what has to be the single dumbest accusation of this campaign to date. Mr. Dogg, it's all yours:

SNOOP DOGG - SNOOP DOGG BLASTS OBAMA

Hip-hop star SNOOP DOGG has launched a scathing attack on U.S. presidential hopeful BARACK OBAMA - accusing him of gleaning support from a race hate group. The rapper, real name Calvin Broadus Jr., insists the Democratic candidate has received funding from historically anti-black organisation the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). He says, "The KKK gave Obama money. They was (sic) one of his biggest supporters... Why wouldn't they be? The media won't tell you that. They don't want you to know that. They just want you to know that this [derogatory racial epithet deleted] befriended this other [derogatory racial epithet deleted] who be (sic) threatening your values. "But we all know all presidents lie to get into [expletive denoting sexual activity deleted]ing office. That's they (sic) job." But Dogg insists Obama will still emerge victorious in the October (08) elections. He adds, "In America's eyes, that [expletive denoting carnal knowledge of female parent deleted]'s gonna be president 'cos (John) MCCain can't [expletive denoting sexual activity deleted] with him. Hillary (Clinton) can't [expletive denoting sexual activity deleted] with him. He's winning over white people, white ladies."

[Via Ace].

I never want this primary to end.

Moe Lane

PS: Let me be the first person, by the way, to reassure Mr. Dogg: in point of fact, both (John) McCain and Hillary (Clinton) will find no difficulties in doing what you suggested that they would find it impossible to do. They're quite keen on the prospect, in fact.

Posted at 1:44pm on Mar. 27, 2008 Why the delegate totals are theoretical, Reason #44452319. [Updated/Bumped.]

This week's story comes from Texas.

By Moe Lane

[UPDATE: Ann Althouse reports that a member of the Obama campaign has emailed to report this as being just a "data entry error". As you can guess by her title, she's not buying it.]

Yup, the Lone Star State: where, for reasons only known to God and Texan Democrats, they had to have a primary and a caucus, thus ensuring Chaos and Old Night.

Anyway, Ann Althouse passes along an amusing mailer that went to one of the delegates chosen that crazy night (via Glenn Reynolds):

I just got a flier in the mail from Barack Obama. It's clearly a special flier for delegates. It has my full name, address, and "Support Barack Obama at your County Convention!" There's no point in sending a message like that to anyone who isn't a delegate; the county convention is where the delegates meet, post-caucus. So, they got my name and address from a list of caucus delegates, and the lists of those delegates say who each person has pledged their support for. In fact, Clinton's campaign sent me a link to the lists that are sent to the campaigns, so I know what they look like. [ADDED: This list, which shows which candidate the delegate supports, is on line.] Technically, I could change my vote from Clinton to Obama, but the delegates were selected proportionately to represent the voters. Surely, he isn't suggesting that I do this, since he so firmly believes that delegates, pledged or super, can't go against the will of the people. Or is he?

There's a photo at the link.

Posted at 10:42am on Mar. 19, 2008 Attention, Florida Republicans. Howard Dean is giving us a gift.

Please adjust your definition of "attainable" accordingly.

By Moe Lane

Via (amusingly) TalkLeft we see the latest bit of fallout from the 48 State Strategy:

Times poll: Dems want primary results to count

Howard Dean and Barack Obama may insist Florida’s Democratic presidential primary was meaningless, but a new poll shows Florida Democrats aren’t buying it, and one in four may not back their party's nominee in November if Florida winds up with no voice in the nomination.

Not only do Florida Democrats say that the Democratic presidential contenders’ boycott of their primary had little effect, but an overwhelming plurality want the officially meaningless results to count, a new St. Petersburg Times/Bay News 9 poll finds.

The actual language is "...one in four said they would be less likely to support the ultimate Democratic nominee if Florida’s delegates don’t count;" nonetheless, this is very interesting news. GOP activists in FL-16 and FL-22, please resolve whatever local disputes that you might have and unite behind a single candidate. FL-02, please increase your support for Robert Ortiz; FL-19, Edward Lynch; FL-23, Marion Thorpe. Yes, yes, long shots, but Chairman Dean seems determined to abandon this state; make 'em sweat and spend money in the general.

Lastly, FL-03, FL-17, FL-20 Republicans: the deadline for filing candidates is apparently not until 04/28/2008. Please contemplate taking this opportunity to put up challengers. Yes, even longer shots. So what? You can't win if you don't bloody try.

Posted at 6:21pm on Mar. 17, 2008 Annnnnd there goes the hope for a Florida do-over!

By all means, spit on Florida Democrats. Especially the ones who are freshmen in Congress.

By Moe Lane

I guess that they didn't really want to flip Florida this year:

Florida Dems abandon mail-in vote plan

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida Democrats have abandoned plans to redo the presidential primary with a mostly mail-in vote.

Party leaders had expressed concerns about the proposal. The party plan was to run a second primary to seat the state's delegates at the August convention.

You know, at first I was a little worried when Howard Dean got the nod for DNC, thanks to his 50 48 State strategy. But after seeing what it has wrought... don't ever change, Howard.

Really. I mean it.

Posted at 6:15pm on Mar. 12, 2008 Now comes the Gutter War.

Have fun, folks. We'll be over here, repairing infrastructure.

By Moe Lane

It lacked only this, to cement the blood feud:

Ferraro Quits Clinton Post
By Katharine Q. Seelye

Geraldine Ferraro has left Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s finance committee, saying that Senator Barack Obama’s campaign was twisting her words to make her appear racist and that this was hurting Mrs. Clinton, a campaign official confirmed after CNN reported the development.

Mrs. Ferraro had told a newspaper that “If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position.”

I've been meaning to mention this, by the way: if every criticism of Senator Barack Obama is going to be responded to in racialist terms by his campaign, then the term best used to describe him and his wouldn't be Hope and Change.

Try Business As Usual, instead.
