Romney closes the gender gap

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that in the last month Romney has closed his so-called gender gap from 19 to 7 percent. Last month Obama led among women 57 to 38 percent. Now that lead is down to 51 to 44 percent.

The new poll found voters would be split 49 percent for Obama and 46 percent for Romney if the November election were held now, but with regard to whom they prefer on handling the economy, Romney and Obama are tied at 47 percent. That is a 4 percent gain for Romney from last month’s Post poll.

Romney’s improvement comes despite the skewed sample. The ABC News/Washington Post poll used a sample of 32 percent Democrats, 22 percent Republicans, and 38 percent Independents. Based upon exit polling, the  2008 electorate was 39 percent Democrat, 32 percent Republican, and 29 percent Independent. In 2010, it was 35 percent Democrat, 35 percent Republican, and 29 percent Independent.

Hey, Romney, Get Some…

I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard Mitt Romney ‘repudiate’ a Super PAC message that hadn’t even been produced yet. It was a jolt of deja vu, harkening back to the bleak political tapestry created by the entrenched Republican beltway establishment. We’ve seen this entire story played out time after time, where the supposed champions of constitutional governance have been rolled over by the DeMarxists, simply because the agents of freedom have utterly failed to stand for the very principles they espouse.

John McCain’s candidacy was a joke to anyone who followed politics closely. What I saw in John McCain was the reincarnation of the hapless Bob Dole  ‘good old boy’ presidential run. This ‘next-in-line’ mentality of the beltway establishment has utterly failed the Republican Party and the American people. Had it not been for the introduction of Sarah Palin to the national political scene, McCain would have suffered one of the greatest defeats in party history.

Sarah has also experienced some of the worst  savaging of any political figure in living memory. The unintended consequence of which has been that she has become one of the most potent weapons against the depredations of the left that the patriot movement has. No single political figure in America today can generate the excitement that Sarah Palin can. She is a spear aimed straight at the heart of socio-communism in this country. That’s why they still savage her at every opportunity. They fear her every bit as much as they fear the spectacular rise of the Patriot Movement.

The left has always depended on the politics of personal destruction. The bottom line here is that the country is ready, far more than ready, for conservative governance. We have the momentum, we’ve the principles and the right on our side. My question here is ‘does Mitt Romney?’ Romney and his Super PACs had no problem whatsoever savaging each of his conservative Republican opponents in turn. So much so, that it led some of us to wonder whose side Romney was really on.

I wrote that he was going to have to work very hard to band-aid, in order to save the so-called Reagan coalition which his attacks had splintered. He’s not going to defeat Obama with his advisers feeding him, and the nation, with milquetoast platitudes. He has to attack Obama for what he is… a totally incompetent Marxist hack.

There’s a lot of concern out here about Romney’s upcoming vice-presidential pick. The rumble among the establishment types is that Romney will pick Ohio Senator Rob Portman. He’s been called the GOP’s most boring ‘white guy’. Now, I’m not here to run down Portman. He is a conservative Republican. But he will not excite the base. Nationally, he’s a virtual unknown. We do not need another vanilla candidate in an election cycle that promises to be a real gunfight.

Romney had better be prepared for that gunfight, and he’s not going to do it by ‘repudiating’ attacks against the most vicious political infighter in American politics. Romney, get some… you know… grow a pair, get some testicular fortitude. And while you’re at it, fire your McCain advisers.

Running on Hope and Out of Gas

In the span of less than a month, we have seen some desperation on the part of Team Obama and his dutiful consorts in the media. An analyst on CNN managed to compare Romney’s speech at Liberty University regarding heterosexual marriage as being akin to George Wallace’s declaration in favor of segregation. Commentators on MSNBC managed to up the ante by comparing Ann Romney to Hitler or Stalin. Meanwhile, Michelle Obama is elevated to some bizarre pedestal as she appears on the Disney Channel almost weekly telling parents what to feed their kids which, to me, sounds eerily Stalinesque. Newsweek magazine managed to finally get the halo, albeit rainbow colored, on Obama’s head. A New York Times/CBS News poll then finds that 67% of respondents believe Obama’s evolutionary view of gay marriage was politically, not morally motivated. True to form, they bury their own poll’s results on page 17 and in paragraph 16 of that article manage to note that Romney has a slight edge on Obama in the polls.

Regarding that gay marriage “epiphany,” the announcement was obviously motivated by (1) Joe Biden’s big mouth on the Sunday morning talk shows and (2) the vote in North Carolina. The media even managed to overlook Biden’s apology to Obama for forcing the President’s hand on the subject. But if Obama had his great evolutionary change in position, why should there even be a Biden apology? To further muddle the issue, Obama elevates gay marriage to a civil right, but then says that it should be left to the states. Thank God, if Obama really believes this, he was not an adult during the 1960s civil rights movement.

Then there is that advertisement that has received more attention from the media than people in the states where the advertisement actually ran- the GST “vampire” commercial. The Wall Street Journal does a better job at dispelling the falsities of that commercial, despite Joe Biden’s feigned “they don’t get us” rhetoric. The media ignores the fact that Bain Capital actually added eight years to the life of GST Steel in Kansas City and that the vampires invested $100 million in the plant. The truth is that without Bain Capital, those people yelling “vampire” in the commercial would have been unemployed in 1993, not 2001.

Adding insult to injury for Obama, polls show Romney gaining on him and Romney is basically in a standstill. That is, the more Obama does, the better Romney performs in the polls. Things are so bad for Team Obama that the alleged gender gap is all but gone. That merely indicates what Romney has been saying all along- real women care more about bread-and-butter subjects than contraceptive services. Those screaming about contraception and “the war on women” are feminists and liberals, a minority that is going to vote for Obama in either case. Hence, they are singing to the choir.

Obama is being revealed as one thing and one thing only- not beholden to his conscience and beliefs, or even the polls, but beholden to his rich liberal donors. He doesn’t even hide this as within hours after his gay marriage announcement, he flies to California for a record-setting fundraiser at the mansion of George Clooney. The same can be said of his decision regarding the Keystone XL pipeline. This was a no-brainer of a decision that Obama flubbed while cowtowing to his environmentalist and liberal donors. It would appear that Obama is more concerned with reaching only one goal- raising $1 billion for his campaign- rather than having a goal in improving conditions in this country.

Then we have the alleged 16-year fact check error where Obama suddenly goes from “Kenyan born” to being “Hawaiian born.” These seemingly trivial “oversights” only fan the flames of confusion and beget more questions. We are reminded daily on the news that Romney’s days at Bain Capital are fair game in this campaign since they supposedly helped shape his economic philosophy and outlook, but Obama’s association with Jeremiah Wright and Saul Alinsky are “off limits” because to do so would be either racist or “old news.” I have no doubts that Obama was born in Hawaii and that the biography claiming a Kenyan birth was akin to resume embellishment- for whatever reason, its more exotic to be born in Kenya. After all, Hawaii is a great tourist destination. But when your biography is still in question five years after these “questions have been answered,” you have a problem. When you have a great moral epiphany regarding gay marriage and have to hold almost daily conference calls with black ministers to allay their fears and concerns in this area, you have a problem. When you attack your opponent for their days at a private equity firm and being a “vampire” sucking the life out of businesses when you yourself never created a job in your life, you have a problem.

The fact is that Barack Obama is no longer the President he claimed he was going to be when he ran in 2008. That was presaged soon after his election with his flippant “we won” speech to a gathering of Pelosi Obamatrons. More importantly, Obama has stopped trying to be that President he said he would be in 2008. He can point at an obstructionist Republican Party in Congress, or portray the GOP as being beholden to a radical Tea Party agenda all he wants, but at the end of the day, he is starting to look not only desperate, but pathetic.

Its obvious that running on a campaign of changing Washington is not a winning strategy this time out. His victory in 2008 was more like voting for change for the sake of change. But, we have seen that change and we should be thankful there is an “obstructionist” Congress standing in his way. That is what 2010 was all about!

Within the next six months, I can almost guarantee that Joe Biden will have a health issue or some other event will occur and Obama will have a new running mate in 2012, perhaps Hillary Clinton. After all, what would be more transformative than the nation’s first black President and first woman Vice-President? If that is all you have to run on, then you have problems.

Potential #2′s: Bob McDonnell

Speculation concerning Mitt Romney’s choice of a running mate is beginning to pick up as of late, with a handful of names being consistently mentioned.  Marco Rubio, Rob Portman, Paul Ryan, and Kelly Ayotte seem to be the names I hear the most.  Personally, I believe there are better choices than any of these people.  While I am a huge supporter of some of them, I think we need them in the House and Senate to keep strong members there.  Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has barely been mentioned as a potential #2, but I think he would be a great choice.

Bob McDonnell was elected in 2009 to be Virginia’s 71st governor.  Prior to that he served 21 years in the Army, both in active duty and reserves, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.  His father was a soldier before him, and his oldest daughter served as a U.S. Army Officer and is an Iraq War veteran.

McDonnell went on to serve as Attorney General of Virginia, where 92 of his 105 legislative proposals passed– most with bipartisan support.  Also during his tenure as Attorney General, he helped initiate the toughest laws on sexual predators in the country.

During his time as Governor of Virginia McDonnell’s record is remarkable.  He has proven that he is not afraid to go against the status quo and pass laws that may not be popular with the establishment.  The most recent law he signed that sparked tremendous outrage from the pro-choice community was a bill that requires a woman to receive an ultrasound of her unborn child before having an abortion.

Governor McDonnell comes from a state that may be critical in November.  His record is consistently conservative.  He is unashamed of going against the status quo.  He does not denounce social values.  He has southern appeal.  I think Governor McDonnell would be an excellent choice for Romney’s running mate.  Romney’s vice-presidential “search team” certainly has their work cut out for them!

For Obama, Hopelessness is the Key to Lower Unemployment

In a bizarre twist, the President who offered hope and change now uses hopelessness as his number one weapon to fight unemployment.

The Obama campaign is determined to do whatever it takes to get the unemployment rate below 8%. The President believes that if he can get unemployment below that magic number, then he can convince the American people that they should re-elect him for another four years.

Obama just has one problem, none of his ideas have created jobs, and he has no other ideas other than to do more of the same. So he cannot reduce the unemployment rate by creating jobs. That only leaves one other option – convince more Americans to stop looking for work.

Obama can reduce the unemployment rate if he can get more and more Americans to give up and leave the work force. The unemployment rate only counts Americans actually looking for work. Every week we see the numbers showing more and more Americans giving up hope leaving the workforce.

Obama and his administration only seem to encourage this exodus from the work force. Obama’s rhetoric has been uninspiring at best and demoralizing at worst. Instead of lifting the spirits of the American people, he has been appealing to jealousy and fear.

If you are poor or out of work, it must be because some rich guy isn’t paying his fair share of taxes. If you had big dreams, it is time to lower your expectations and get used to the new normal. This is the message from a president who offered hope and change.

This is the message of hopelessness the president offers. And it’s working.  In spite of a jobless recovery, we see the unemployment rate slowly tick down as more and more people give up hope and stop looking for work. And if more Americans give up hope, it will soon tick below 8%.

We should expect the president’s accomplices in the main-stream media to herald the day when the unemployment rate drops below 8%. With great fanfare President Obama will announce to the nation that he kept his promise and that we are moving forward.

All this should make Mitt Romney’s road to the White House a bit easier. He simply has to remind the American people of their true greatness and what they are capable of. Instead of giving up on their hopes and dreams, Romney will remind the American people they only need to give up on one thing – Barack Obama.

Washington Post Ignores the Latest “Obama Born In Kenya” Story

Here is a fun game all Red Staters can play.

Go to the Washington Post and watch how long, if ever, it takes them to mention the “Obama born in Kenya according to his literary agent in 1991″ bombshell story that is all over the Internet.  (Congrats to Erick Erickson whose angle on the story is MOST READ up at Real Clear Politics.)

But at this writing, if you look at the national “hometown” paper or web site the story does not exist. This is throwback to the old Soviet Union style of journalism.

Even ABC News is running with a piece about how Obama’s literary agent is saying this was all a mistake. (But at least give ABC credit for noticing the story which is more than I can say for the Washington Post.)

This is the same media outlet that made a national headline story out of Romney’s high school pranks, and a rock way out in west Texas.

So, according to the Washington Post, some possible new evidence that the President of the United States may be born outside the USA and therefore might even be an illegal president is less important than Romney’s behavior in high school. The Post quoted a dead man in that story. It can’t contact a live book agent for this one?

Maybe the Washington Post might want to explore the angle that our current President lied about being born in Kenya to his literary agent to sell more books, but was really born in Hawaii.

No matter how they decide to cover the story, for the Washington Post to completely ignore it is a tragic example how a major player in the mainstream media is not only failing its local readers and the American people, but losing whatever is left of its own credibility.
