MEMBER DIARY

Congrats to Redstate for visibility on Drudge

Too bad it spells the beginning of the end for the little guys here

It’s pretty awesome that Redstate has hit the big time – at least 2 links posted on Drudge. Pretty exciting that this site has been getting worldwide large-scale visibility.

Unfortunately I have come to accept that my chief experience with Redstate from here on out is the 500 Internal Something or Other Error. Hopefully posting a diary will become an easier affair in the near future so we can take a little part in enjoying the increase in traffic.

No more excuses about Caching…that’s getting tired

Does RS want to go Bigtime or not??

I love it here. Though to get on today I had to to link through Human Events. Yesterday I just read all the diaries and try to fight the 500 door, but hopefully it just means there are many more of us. And Growing from the new names.

My family and I are so excited about the reviews Palin is getting and the left is chasing it’s tail trying to find some “real” dirt it’s hilarious. The diaries and the posts have been entertaining and informative this is truely a valuable spot on the web. My breath of fresh air.

I for one share your frustration. I was a very early adopter of Redstate (four years now) but I’ve been away from the site for a while for a number of reasons.

The most recent is the frustration of trying to navigate through the Error 500s. This morning I spent 20 minutes trying to read the continuation of a front page item and finally gave up — one of my great failings is I don’t have that kind of patience.

There are several communities within this site.

The Editors, the Commenters, and the Readers all have their role. The Editors keep things ticking. The Commentors give it character and keep up state and local coverage like no small group could ever hope to achieve.

The readers? They drive ad revenue. If this kind of readership picks up, it will suddenly make a lot more business sense for RS to get further technical investment.

So one way or another, this is temporary. Either the traffic will stay up and revenues will skyrocket, letting RS reap a benefit, or the traffic will return to normal, and the site behavior will return to normal.

It unfortunately takes more than just will to make site upgrades happen, so just wanting it won’t make it so.

This site doesn’t operate at the Internet speed anymore. Hopefully they can address this soon, especially with all these new users clicking on our ads!

It’s not just the Commenters who are hurt by the traffic. The Editors actually have WORSE ability to read pages and the SAME inability to post as you do when we’re logged in. The caching works better with more readers, and there are many more Commenters than Editors, so the caching really doesn’t help us much.

Would it be possible to set up better server capability by receiving some donations? I personally would be willing to part with some dough in order to assure that I wouldn’t have to deal with the dreaded 500 ISE!

Probably not though. We’re probably best off just trying to get a Drudge hit all the time and use advertisers’ money to do it :-)

See, Barack? You can call something above your pay grae and still give an answer.
