Falafel Stands – Yes, Chicken Sandwiches – No

You can have my Chick-Fil-A sandwich when you pry it from my cold, dead hands....

Well, gay activists have started yet another hate campaign against yet another company, employing some Cirque-du-Soleil type of mental gymnastics to misrepresent one man’s response to a simple question asked during an interview with a Christian publication.

It seems that a business owner’s personal beliefs are enough for these hysterical screechers to run to anyone who will listen and scream “It’s not fair!” in order to advance their personal agenda. As one person put it:

….the split-second reaction from these activists is to slander…. [a] company in the press and blogosphere. It just takes one company taking an alternative position to make the gay activists and liberal press hit the ceiling. But that’s where we are today.”

Stanton said the message by some opponents of Chick-fil-A apparently is, “Speak up for the natural, traditional family and we will come after you.”

“If you don’t believe this,” Stanton said, “just watch how Chick-fil-A will be treated in the coming months. They [Chick-fil-A's critics] are the new close-minded fundamentalists.”

Of course, it is only Christian and Jewish businesses which get targeted – apparently the gay lobby has no problem with Muslim-owned businesses. It seems that some pork is more equal than others.

Unfortunately, many of those in high places not only allow this nonsense to continue, they allow themselves to be dragged into the conversation as well. Apparently, there is no vote for which some politicians will refuse to pander, so now we have to listen to public officials getting up on their high horses and bloviating about “What’s Right”.

Harumph, harumph, harumph.

The latest business to come under fire is Chick-Fil-A, and the activists have the usual suspects dancing to their tune once again. This time, the most visible politicians are the mayors of Chicago and Boston.

Both of these gentlemen are sanctimoniously proclaiming that they will not allow Chick-Fil-A to open restaurants in their cities because the president of the company has the audacity to support the concept of traditional marriage.

Have these men ever SEEN the lines that stretch around a Chick-Fil-A restaurant at feeding time?

Those restaurants can’t beat customers off with a stick. NOBODY says to themself, “This line is too long – I’m gonna go eat somewhere else” – no, they wait patiently for their turn to order some of the most delicious chicken sandwiches known to man (when I found out that I couldn’t eat wheat products any more, I almost burst into tears at the thought of never again being able to order a #1 with no pickles. I still miss them, all these years later).

Given these gentlemens’ positions on the businesses which they “allow” to operate in their fine cities, the hypocrisy of their statements boggles the mind.

These gentlemen refuse to let a wildly successful Christian-owned business open within their city limits because of its president’s personal beliefs about marriage, but they don’t have any problem with allowing any number of Muslim-owned businesses to operate in their towns.

The Islamic faith clearly abhors homosexual behavior, and in most countries they do a whole lot more than excommunicate members who are found “guilty” of what they perceive to be a crime.

This is what they do to homosexuals in Islamic-run countries all over the world

Why aren’t the gay activists targeting THOSE businesses?

Here’s what Mayor Merino had to say about Chick-Fil-A:

“Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion,” Menino told the Herald yesterday.

“That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.”

A quick Internet search turns up over 60 Halal restaurants within 5 miles of City Hall in the same town which houses the “Menino Mosque” – an establishment which Boston’s mayor worked long and hard to bring to his “tolerant” city. Is Mayor Menino going to shut down this mosque if they refuse to endorse gay marriage?

The Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center - aka "Menino's Mosque"

Chicago’s mayor, Rahm Emanuel had this to say:

“Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago values. They’re not respectful of our residents, our neighbors and our family members. And if you’re gonna be part of the Chicago community, you should reflect Chicago values.”

Alderman Joe Moreno chimed in as well:

“Same sex marriage, same-sex couples — that’s the civil rights fight of our time. To have those discriminatory policies from the top down is just not something that we’re open to. …We want responsible businesses .” (NSFW)

In the city which recently invited Louis Farakhan’s Nation of Islam (a Black Supremacist organization) to walk their streets in an effort to curb crime, there are 57 Halal restaurants within a 5-mile radius of the downtown area alone. Chicago’s mayor apparently had no problem granting a business license to a restaurant that is owned and operated by Mr. Farakhan’s Nation Of Islam, the Salaam Restaurant (their food looks yummy):

Last time I checked, Chick-Fil-A didn’t have a huge cross sitting in any of their restaurants’ parking lots….

I don’t know about the rest of the country, but I am getting sick and tired of listening to this small minority of people – and it is a tiny subset of the gay community – who are convinced that their agenda is more important than any other issue out there.

I am also sick and tired of being called an intolerant hypocrite by a miniscule group of people who refuse to acknowledge that they are some of the most intolerant and hypocritical people out there these days.

What the gay lobby doesn’t want people to ever find out is just how FEW gay people there really are in this country. If voters ever stopped to do a quick Internet search, they would be shocked at the numbers, and they would start to wonder why so much time, effort, and money is being spent on this boutique issue.

Total US Population – 308,745,538 (per 2010 Census)
Number of Gays in US – 4,000,000 (1.7% of total population – per Gary J. Gates)

Number of married couples – 58,410,000 (doesn’t include those living together)
Number of gay couples – 594,000 (“married” and living together)

Congratulations, gentlemen!
You are pandering to a group which represents 0.38% of the entire US population.

How many votes do ya figure that adds up to?

but do you have any stats to back up the assertion that homofascist activists are a tiny percentage of the homosexuals in this country?

Also, the reason they don’t mess with the Muslims is the Muslims will fight back. While I don’t advocate using Muslim tactics, I do think if Christians and Jews were more assertive and less fearful in dealing (non violently) with the Pink Swastika, the militant homosexuals would not have made as much progress fostering oppression in this country as they have.

    Great article.

      Quite an accomplishment, avgjo

Teresa, you point out a key fallacy in the Chic-Filet-A’s opponents. Of course, appealing for logical consistency from today’s left is a rather futile effort.

The explanation for this divergent treatment, I think, basically comes down to “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”.

One quibble: falafel I first associate as an Israeli food, though perhaps that’s not the case in your neck of the woods. Perhaps a different entree item would have avoided this initial confusion.

I’d love to see a proof of something accorded the dignity of law.

If the shoe fits, wear it. Their tactics are terroristic. Period. Don’t like it? That’s your prerogative. Just as it’s mine to articulate what I see within the rules.

Falafel is an arabic word, and it is believed to have originated in Egypt.

I live in “cowtown” Texas – not that many falafel places in my neck of the woods….

Of course, many of the same people who support militant gay causes are just as militant about “Zionism” and Palestinian “rights”, so it might apply in that case as well…..

(Yeah, I’m grasping at straws here :P )

I suppose it’s just an assumption on my part, but given that only 25% of the estimated 4 million gays are actually in a “couple” relationship, I’d consider that a small group.

There are plenty of conservative gays who don’t want to “die on that hill” – they recognize that the activists want to compromise churches, and they don’t want any part of that. While they would prefer to call it “marriage”, they know that they have all of the “rights” that straight couples have already.

If they aren’t willing to “fight with the Muslims”, then I have no patience with them. It’s easy to pick a fight with people who won’t fight back – they give lots of lip service to being willing to die for their cause, but I sure don’t see any evidence of them actually putting their money where their mouth is.

To compare their plight to that of slaves or Holocaust victims is an insult to those people.

and look where it has led us.

  • aesthete

than gays — gays make a lot of money, and besides, it’s not as fun to use them as victim du jour when conservatives are coming around on gay issues and when gays are normalizing in society.

Muslims still have lots of victimhood mileage left in them, and they are harder to boycott than lily white Southern owners of chicken establishments. If lefties have to run over gays to appease Muslims, well, it won’t be the first time.

    • acat

For someone to be out and gay demands a society that recognizes a good amount of personal liberty… the Dems are happy to portray gays as victims of bigotry but when push comes to shove, over the side they go!

      Mew

      • aesthete

What good are gays if they go from being victims to being your boss, or the swishy guy who makes more money than you? You don’t see Dems talking about the plight of Southern Europeans and the Irish in this country, now that they aren’t good for machine politics votes.

Same thing is happening to lots of Hispanic ethnic-national groups, by the way. Once they go from picking tomatoes to buying them at the grocery store with the rest of the middle class, they lose their “diversity”.

        • acat

We didn’t find out Zimmerman’s Hispanic-American until well after we found out Martin’s African-American … because blacks are above hispanics on the totem pole.

while Blacks only make up 12% of the population.

I think one of the reasons that the gay agenda gets so much attention is because people THINK that there are more of them than there actually are – some young people think that 25% of the population is gay:

            http://culturecampaign.blogspot.com/2011/08/gay-agenda-tvs-disproportionate.html

If they knew the truth, I doubt we’d be having as many of these conversations…..

          • Freiheit (ZachV)

How could you ever believe that we should not be talking about how some people are deprived of her/his rights just because s/he’s a small percentage of the population?

Sally Ride, the first woman in space, is a lesbian with a partner of 27 years. Her partner, Tam, will not be receiving a single cent of death benefits or Social Security. Had Tam been a man, she would have.

Or imagine that Sally Ride and her partner had children, and because Texas dislikes the thought of gays adopting children, only Sally was able to adopt the children. Tam would have no legal right to take custody or care for the child.

Imagine you had me for a son, gay, and I had a partner and children. But the sole legal parent of your grandchildren (my children) was your son-in-law, who had just passed away. How exactly would you feel having to drag the state of Texas to court in order to keep them from taking away your grandchildren?

I am certain of one thing: Hell would have no fury like my mother. Nor do I ever think she would take any favorable view of someone on bench, executive desk or pulpit who was trying to destroy her family by saying that she was no legal grandmother, and her son was no legal parent.

          • http://teresainfortworth.wordpress.com/ Teresa in Fort Worth, TX

And were she and her partner ever to decide to have children (which I don’t think is going to happen), I am sure that they would take steps to establish guardianship should one of them pass away – just like ALL responsible parents should. EVERY gay couple is allowed to do that under the laws of every state in the union last time I checked.

As for Ms. Ride’s Social Security benefits, etc. – I think you would find that the majority of Conservatives feel that Social Security should be privatized, which would allow individuals to assign survivor benefits to whomever THEY see fit; keep the government completely out of the equation.

Your argument holds no merit – as you are WELL aware – since gays have the same legal rights as every other American. Yes, it may take a little more legwork, but every time that we have tried to make that easier for the gay community, they have thrown it away with both hands because “It isn’t enough”.

Well, I’m sorry – we’re getting tired of you guys tossing this stuff in our faces. We are willing to give you everthing except the term “Marriage” – EVERYTHING – and you refuse to accept it. That tells us that there is something else at work here, and we aren’t going to play that game.

But the fact remains that gay couples make up so small a percentage of the American population that it isn’t worth worrying about. You may not like that fact, but it’s time for you to face reality.

Incidentally, the number of gay couples that have children is EXTREMELY small – again, not worth the time to argue about it. The laws on the books can be worked with – they should be no different than those for non-married heterosexual partners; I’m betting that the number of couples who actually encounter problems like the ones that you mention are extraordinarily miniscule.

Since about 1/4 of gay couples are raising children, that tells me that the number of adults affected is 297,000, or 0.095% of all Americans.

Approximately 1 in 800 or 0.12% or 340,000 people in the USA have Down syndrome, including my youngest child.

There are MORE people in this country with Down syndrome than there are gay people raising children.

You ever heard such screeching from the DS community?

            No, you have not.

And yet, legislation is passed ALL THE TIME which helps our children. Because we work within the system and don’t whine about what a raw deal our kids got or how unfair life is.

You could learn a GREAT DEAL from people with Down syndrome….

to zachv with some of what I knew you’d previously posted, but thought it better coming from you. Thank you again for sharing your perspective.

I hope I’m not coming across as a *itch; it’s getting to the point, though, that the gay activists are causing people to have no patience for their entire group.

I’ve about had it with the lot of them. The bad thing is that the quiet ones who just want to live their lives without being hassled are the ones who are getting the raw end of the deal.
