Hosni Mubarak Steps Down, “Egypt is Free”

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has officially resigned. A short statement from Vice President Omar Suleiman, simply announced that Mubarak had stepped down and handed over control on the country to the military’s high counsel. This comes just a day after Mubarak insisted he would stay through the September elections.

Hosni Mubarak has apparently fled to his vacation home in Sharm el-Sheikh, a resort town on the South side of the Sinai Peninsula.

Millions of Egyptians who had flooded the streets in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, near the Presidential Palace and throughout the city streets erupted in cheers and applause at the news. Chants rang out through the crowd including “Egypt is Free!” and “Allah is great!”

This is the culmination of a revolution that began 17 days ago, at least in part, on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. Large gatherings of youths had anticipated this yesterday when Mubarak spoke, and when he did not give up power then, the anger boiled over and large demonstrations moved from Tahrir Square to other important symbolic locations in Cairo, including the state TV station and Mubarak’s palace.

Attention will soon turn to what government takes over in Egypt. The military’s new control seems welcome by the protesters, at least according to reports from Cairo, but a permanent government must follow and worries now will turn toward the Muslim Brotherhood, an extremist organization with ties to terror organizations, and the largest, most well organized political party in Egypt.

    The statement by VP Suleiman:

?My fellow citizens. In this difficult time that the country is going through, the president Mohamed Hosni Mubarak has decided to relieve himself of his position as president and the Supreme military council has taken control of the state?s affairs. May God protect us,? Suleiman announced on national TV.

“Sometimes freedom is its own best punishment.” The 80% of Egyptians who favor stoning adulterous wives will be free to cast their stones.

Do you think the media will cover the public executions?

No of course they don’t report on that.

Uprisings which are showing the will of the people in Iran do not fit the Obama administration’s definition of empowering the people.

Obama only empowers the people’s vote if the people (Muslim Brotherhood) are voting to take power AWAY from the people and give it to an oppressive government fundamentalist Sharia (regime.)

Egyptians then Obama might embrace the freedom movement in America?? /sarc

In Iran, hundreds of people attempt to run for elective office, but the Iranian Supreme Council removes them from the list.

So the remaining candidates among whom Iranians are allowed to “vote” for are limited to those “approved” by the Iranian Supreme Council.

It would be similar to giving you and I a choice of candidates pre-approved by Michael Moore and Keith Olbermann.

Also, they don’t have a free press in Iran either. In fact, when the celebrations erupted in Cairo over Mubarak’s departure, Iran’s government began jamming BBC broadcasts of the event into Iran. Iran’s government knows that the Iranian peole are ready to do to their government what the people of Egypt did to Mubarak.

But it’s kind of hard to hide a revolution in Egypt against a dictator from the people of Iran. Based on the 2009 “green” protests, the Iranian people already have seditious ideas in their heads.

Keep a close eye on Algeria. They’ve got ‘a day of rage’ scheduled for tomorrow – Saturday 12 February.

For the geographically challenged, Algeria is on the north coast of Africa and the nation west of Tunisia, which is past the tipping point and east of Morocco, which is building to the tipping point.

But none of it is coordinated by the oh-so peace-loving Muslim Brotherhood. No. Not any of it.

Gee, Spain is already a socialist nation with a heavy history and current Musli……. Naaaaah, the peace lovers would never move to close The Strait Of Gibraltar. Why would they do that ?

There I go thinkin’ like some sort of hater again.

    - Democracy is more than just elections.
    - Therefore, just as during the Cold War the United States helped keep European communist parties out of power, it will be U.S. policy to oppose the inclusion of totalitarian parties
    (or SHOULD be….)
