Did the Obama Administration sign off on the release of Megrahi?

This seems like an interesting story for an enterprising journalist, which I’m not. The one network, unbelievably, focusing on this is MSNBC the past two mornings on the Morning Joe show. Scarborough, Mika, and the crew all seem to agree that it is implausible for the Obama administration to not have known and even signed off on his release.

As asked in the above segment, what and when did the Obama administration know of the plan to release? Either way it’s not good. If they knew and went along they have some serious explaining to do; if they didn’t know they have some serious explaining to do given the fact that the British government didn’t feel the need to include them. Either way it doesn’t reflect well on the administration and more importantly Obama personally.

The current answer of ” we didn’t know and don’t like it” is just not believable.

Liberals’ Don’t Understand the Enemy

I’ve been reading various op-ed’s today and it has become clear, LIBERALS DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE ENEMY. They are just exasperated, they cannot understand why so many people spontaneously have banded together (all the reasons they have given are just phony) and protested. Their world has been turned upside down; liberals protest, conservatives vote, has been their belief since the 60’s.

They’ve claimed it’s Limbaugh, then Dick Armey’s FredomWorks, then some guy no one has ever heard of named McGuffie and now “Big Insurance”. What they don’t realize or even want to imagine is what binds the protestors is that they do not trust the GOVERNMENT. The protestors know they can turn off Limbaugh, ignore Dick Armey, never even figure out who McGuffie is, and always change their insurance company.

What the protestors fear is the government; they cannot turn it off, ignore it or negotiate with it. They realize that if the government gets control over their health care, then they have no control. The government is the ENEMY!

Has America lost it’s appetite for Feedom and Liberty?

I think the clear answer to that is NO, however I’m not sure President Obama and the liberal left in Congress has the same opinion. Lately I’ve been trying to remember whether I’ve ever heard President Obama ever use the words “liberty and freedom” to describe his vision for America. (Would someone with a LexisNexis account and who knows how to properly search see if he has ever used that phrase in any speach).

His desire to correct all of the wrongs in American tends to overshadow all that is right about America. As with the health care bill, he never focuses on what is good about the American health care system such as major advancements in technology, the ability for quality treatment for all through a system state, county and local health facilities that care for everyone who walks through the door and the graciousness of the medical care community who via their Hippocratic oath give their time and effort to help all regardless of ability to pay. Instead he only sees unfairness in those who have the ability to pay for additional care or treatment as pyorrhea’s on the system, not the fact that they pay in full so that those less fortunate can take advantage of the aforementioned goodness of our system.

His never using the phrase “liberty and freedom” has bothered me for a long time, but it has never been more succintly written about than Thomas Sowell did today in National Review Online. Generally one would post the “money” quote about here, however in this case there is only one “money” quote and it is the entire piece. Please go to here:

His analysis is the best I’ve read on this subject and should be required reading for all in the GOP; it can be a “teaching moment” regarding the bedrock principles of being a Republican.

Fear of “Racism”

Why is it that with the discussion over the Gates situation racism claims and Obama’s falling poll #’s do I feel that there is going to be a link? I’m beginning to think that the racism charge is about to be levied against all of us who don’t believe in his policy positions as the default response to his receding popularity.

With the upcoming Obama/Gates/Crowley Beer Meeting, who thinks that someone with the chip on his shoulder that Gates has will not see this as his opportunity to lecture us all (as he does his students) on what a racist country we live in? Combine that with Obama’s Falling Poll #’s in the latest Rasmussen poll showing only 30% strongly approve of his job performance and my guess that at least 50% of that number is from the African-American community out of legitimate sense of pride.

The first “post-racial” President has made some very good comments to the NAACP recently, however his blind support for the race hustlers such as Gates, as he previously did with Rev. Wright, is going to allow those same people to claim racism when the aforementioned polls continue to show deterioration on his job approval. To defend their policies, the far left, inclusive of leaders in the black community, are by default going to have to claim racism; to do otherwise is to admit the failure of their policy objectives.

The “Single Payer” Kabuki Dance

I’m amazed that day after day, week after week, liberal Democratic leaders who do not have to stand for re-election letting out the secret they believe that the only real solution is a “single payer” system. I’ve seen Howard Dean claim it is the only real solution on CNBC, Elliot Spitzer the same on MSNBC, and now Ted Kennedy telling it to anyone who will listen.

Why I’m so amazed is that all of the contortions the President and liberals in Congress are going through to hide their true intentions of a “single payer”, Canadian or Great Britain style system, are nothing more than a political kabuki dance, yet no one asks them about such claims. All of this discussion of public vs. private, taxes vs. savings is nothing more than smoke screen to hide their true beliefs, because they know that if they came out with such a plan it would be dead on arrival.

Not that any of that amazes me, it’s just the brazenness of the unelected liberals. The real way to defeat this is to go after Dean, Spitzer and any others why make such a claim, much in the way the Dems claim Limbaugh speaks for the Republicans. Use their quotes to question the elected politicians, lawmakers, commentators and party leaders to go the on the record with a response. It is the only way to get them to face their true beliefs (even if we already know).

What if the public plan is just like the Post Office?

Obama keeps asking the question, sarcastically as if to make light of Republican arguments, that if the public plan is so bad no one will want it anyway. What if he is right, but doesn’t realize it (or maybe he does), that there could be a real difference in quality of choice and thereby care, much like there is between the Post Office and FedEx, UPS, or other public carriers. I know the devil is in the details, but unless heavily regulated and forcibly enacted most will stay with private versus public.

I keep thinking of the possibilities based on what I call “The Law of Unintended Consequences”, while the government (read Democrats) thinks it’s doing all of these wonderful things, they typically only make things worse for those they are trying to help. Here are several what ifs:

  • Well qualified doctors refuse to be in the Public Plan and only take patients with qualified private plans, thereby giving the best care to those who can afford it.
  • The Public Plan begins to ration care for those on their watch, therefore having businesses offer the ”premium” private plans to attract employees, giving an edge to more profitable, higher paying employers.
  • While one of Obama’s talking points is that there is no profit in the Public Plan therefore it will be cheaper, I can’t imagine if it is run as any other government enterprise that it can do anything cheaper than private industry. I assume the SEIU and other unions will be involved. To date there is not any major industry that has heavy union involvement that is considered financially healthy (auto’s, education, or heavily unionized states such as CA. NY, or IL) by any pure free market standard.

The unintended consequence is that those who are uninsured and those forced into the Public Plan by their employer may now have to pay/receive for lesser, more rationed, care than can receive today.

Offering less and charging more is not a recipe for success. Just as the Post Office is not in the business to make a profit, it is generally not the prefered method for getting mail/packages delivered when any sort of guarantee of delivery is needed. To make things worse it is always in the red because it can’t compete financially.

Even Democrats know he failed to close the deal

Here it is 9:50 on Thursday, June 25th, the morning after Pres.Obama’s big sell of his health care bill on ABC and everywhere I look there is no or very little mention of it. Amazingly the Huffpo doesn’t even have one single headline, blog, or lead of  what happened. The kids over at Kos have nothing to say about his performance, only just the general discussion that something needs to be done without reference to the ABC infomercial.

I guess just ignoring the fact that he said (paraphrasing) that the elderly don’t need the best care because they are going to die anyway and that he would not want his family to be restricted to the government only plan, will make it all go away.

Instead of worrying about Obama having no one to act as a foil, as the RNC wanted, maybe we should just let the arrogant (you fill in the blank) talk constantly and tell us what he really thinks. That could be enough not only to scare the hell out of conservatives and libertarians in America, it appears to even be starting to scare liberals.

Obama vs. Profits

Why is it every time Obama says anything about private business he has to make a disparaging remark about profits? Yesterday in his news conference he was asked about  the private vs. public plans and the only good reason he good give for the public plan was that there would be no PROFIT in the public plan. He has repeatedly talked about redistributionist policies either directly or indirectly since his “Joe the Plumber” moment by using words like “fair” to describe his overly progressive tax policy, or “greedy” when talking about those pesky Chrysler bondholders.

My belief is that he has exactly the same thought process as Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers, but only diguises it better. Collectively they feel that the American free enterprise system is unfair and that those “greedy” business people take advantage of the poor, uneducated; not that it is the freest system in the world allowing those same perceived disadvantaged people the ability to accomplish and become anything they want.

Specter, the gift that keeps on giving, sorta

I noticed in Rasmussen today that 45% polled think the rest of the stimulus should be cancelled, 51% favor an accross the board tax cut, and 53% believe government spending is bad for the economy, see:

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

Specter’s vote for this in a weird and strange way gives the GOP  a platform moving forward; by him voting for it and then jumping ship for the Donkey’s allows the GOP (I know Collins and Snowe also voted for it, but they are not up for re-election in this cycle therefore not the lightning rods Specter will be) to take the high ground and have every Republican in the ‘10 election be against the stimulus, government spending, and for tax cuts to help the economy.

The discontent on these issues doesn’t seem to be waivering and if anything only getting stronger, thereby putting Democratic congressmen and senators who voted for the stimulus behind the proverbial 8 ball. The other un-intended but possible consequence is that in the health care debate is going to be skewed, because Democrats reading the tea leaves are afraid too much government interference will be hung around their neck.

The Beginning of the End?

On Rasmussen today, for the first time, the Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows there are as many who Strongly Disapprove as those who Strongly Approve of Obama. Additionally the more generic approve/disapprove number is at a low of 54/46%. Reading between the lines of the polls it appears that Obama’s “cult of celebrity” is beginnig to wear thin. The reason that we know this is that on almost all issues that Rasmussen has polled, the Obama position is the least favorable, while his personal numbers have remained positive.

Once the new wears off, as it appears it’s beginning to, look for his polling numbers to start reflecting the numbers on positions he takes.

For those in the left blogosphere/media who want to claim Rasmussen as a right of center polling company, just remember he was almost dead on in his polling for the “08 election cycle. See the full article at:
