MEMBER DIARY

A conservative activist is born.

“C’mon, dude! Lay off Obama. Why can’t you just give the guy a chance?”

A lot of people ask me why I’m so hard on Barack Obama. One minute I’m just a regular guy minding my own business, working hard, and trying to support my family. Then this Obama tidal wave comes along. Next thing you know, regular-guy me is incredulous, full of despair, and downright angry. I’ve even started a ‘crazy right-wing’ blog. I’ve become one of a strange new emerging breed: the conservative activist.

So back to the question. Why?

I can’t say it any clearer than this: I’m all up in Barack Obama’s face because he is a Socialist. “Here we go. Another right-wing nut job calling Obama a Socialist.” Well, what am I supposed to call him? A bowl of chili? I have news for you. If you can honestly and objectively look at Obama’s past and say he isn’t a Socialist, then you’re the nut job. Now, instead of rolling your eyes at that last sentence, why don’t you take just a few minutes and see if this ‘Socialist thing’ is true? It’s not difficult. Just google these: Obama Saul Alinsky, Obama rules for radicals, Obama Frank Marshall Davis, Obama marxist professors, Obama redistribution of wealth, Obama Wright, Obama Ayers, Obama socialist conferences, and Obama communist party USA. The list goes on. I realize you can read a lot of crazy stuff on the internet. So google those things and read any ‘reputable’ source you like. Then, if you can add two plus two, and you’re honest with yourself, it’s easy to see why I along with tens of millions of informed citizens are convinced Obama is a Socialist. And if a Socialist in the White House with a cult-like following doesn’t give rise to conservative activism, what will?

Another reason I’ve become an ‘Obama basher?’ (By the way, I don’t consider exposing the truth ‘bashing.’ More on this later.) Conservatives nowadays need all the help they can get. Not because of their ideas, mind you. It’s just that with each passing election, it’s become as plain as day that conservatives have two foes: the Democrat on the ticket and Big Media. Let’s face it; John McCain was hardly a conservative and thus a very weak candidate. Still, I think Obama was beatable. But McCain couldn’t defeat both Obama AND the media, who constantly left the public either misinformed or uninformed about who Obama really was. Even the most ardent liberal cannot deny the media bias in this election was overwhelmingly in favor of Obama. It’s clear that conservatives have an uphill battle on their hands. I intend to get behind the real conservatives and start pushing. Hard. And part of supporting real conservative candidates is exposing the decidedly anti-conservative agenda of Barack Obama.

Okay, let’s talk about George Bush. I can’t tell you how sick to death I am after eight long years of George Bush stole the election, George Bush is a traitor, George Bush is Hitler, George Bush is an idiot, George Bush trampled on the Constitution, George Bush has created a theocracy, George Bush caused New Orleans’ levees to break, George Bush made the world hate us, George Bush made the economy collapse, George Bush hates black people, George Bush lied so people died, George Bush traded blood for oil, George Bush and his greedy oil buddies caused gas prices to skyrocket, and on and on and on and on. From obscene bumper stickers to late night comedy shows to the obviously skewed ‘news’ outlets, the criticism of George Bush was relentless. I know George Bush isn’t perfect. None of us are (except, we’re led to believe, Barack Obama). In fact, I personally hated Bush’s positions on illegal immigration, all the bailout nonsense, and a bunch of other issues. But no president has been dealt a worse hand than Bush. And I think he played his hand with honesty and integrity. And he simply didn’t deserve the skewering he got from the Left for the last eight years. To me, one of Bush’s biggest mistakes was not defending himself. Ever. In one sense, you have to admire that. But I think this is what ultimately made the lies about him seem more credible. Bush simply didn’t want to get into the gutter with his opponents. He just wouldn’t do it. Well, guess what? Eight years of liberals spitting on George Bush is about to come right back at ‘em. If you’re going to spit, don’t do it into the wind. This sounds like vengeance, but I assure you it isn’t. (I’ve learned that revenge is never good.) What I’m talking about is having a relentless zeal for taking on your opposition. The difference is, I’m not going to lie about Obama or the Democrats. I’m only going to deal in the power of the truth. That’s all I need. And I’m going to do it with some serious gusto. If this upsets you, well, in the words of Colonel Nathan Jessep, “You can’t handle the truth.”

The final reason I’ve become a conservative activist can be summed up thusly: duty. I just can’t sit on my duff any more while the country circles the drain. I want to be able to say, “Well, at least I tried.” I want to leave this place in better shape than I found it.  You know, there’s a very good reason most conservative people aren’t politically active. They’re too busy working, raising a family, trying to be good and decent people. “Leave all that political activism to the weirdos. Nobody listens to them.” Right? Not any more. That’s all changed now. I believe it was Jesse Jackson who said, “An organized minority is a political majority.” I think we’re now seeing the wisdom of those words. Big time. So I’m falling in line behind the ranks of conservatives, who I still believe make up the majority of Americans. Those of us who haven’t been mesmerized by Barack Obama agree on so many of the same issues. Enough with the socialism. Enough with the political correctness. Enough with the multiculturalism. Enough with the growth of government bureaucracy. Enough with the curbing of freedom. Enough with the hyphenated Americanism. Enough with the lies. Enough with failed ideologies. Enough of NOT learning from history.

Lay off Obama? Sorry, but as a liberal friend of mine recently said, “Be true to your voice. Always demand to be heard.”

Oh, I’ve always been interested in politics and always been conservative. I’d argue my points with anyone who wanted to debate. But only after this last election did I really decide to start doing something.

I called my county GOP. Now I’m going to fill in an empty precinct committeeman slot and you bet your keister that I’m going to be knocking doors and recruiting. I’ve come to realize that internet posting is all well and good, but things aren’t going to get fixed unless someone starts getting new members into the party. And unfortunately, there is no someone who’s going to do it. So I have to.

And the same goes for you. And for anyone else reading this. It isn’t enough to profess your ideas hear. you have to do something. Call your county GOP and find out what needs doing. Then do it. If no one there has any idea what’s going on tell them what needs doing and do it. If they fight you, take it over.

We as conservatives have to make the RedState army a reality.

    • nivlem

      Well written and motivating.

I was just asked yesterday to be precinct chairman for my area. If there
are enough of us here at Redstate, maybe we can share ideas.

      Thanks for your great post.

    • http://conservative-and-proud.blogspot.com/ eschristian

I’m cheering you too ; ) Awesome post. We are not alone – my mom even learned how to blog, she too became a conservative activist, and many others I know. WE THE PEOPLE are fed up with this socialist B.S. (at least I am, and all the folks I know).

  • http://letsthinkaboutthat.blogspot.com thinklib

    You’re absolutely right.

I’m calling my county GOP today.

    Thanks.

    • Brian Hibbert

and it’s nice to see that someone is listening.

I think it’s the only way we’re going to win back this country.

      • http://letsthinkaboutthat.blogspot.com thinklib

        Actually, there are two problems.

One, I want to do more than knock on doors, which is all my local GOP seems to need me for (well, donations too).

Two, I already live in a heavily GOP district in Dallas. We’re pretty solid red here.

The question is: how do you identify weak, faux-conservative GOP candidates and then replace them on the ballots with more principled leaders?

        • http://andrightlyso.com/ civil_truth

The problem is “how do you replace the voters who elected them”?

Especially when you live in a community that’s so blue that it’s gone beyond violet and off the visible spectrum.

          • http://letsthinkaboutthat.blogspot.com thinklib

In our dumbed-down age and with our dumbed-down youth, the only way to get a message across is through ‘branding.’ Look at Obama. He’s not a politician, he’s an icon. If the GOP had young, good-looking, and eloquent leaders who could actually articulate what conservatives stand for, then by golly, conservatism might become cool.

If your brand isn’t cool, you’re doomed.

So we need to educate the voters from the top down.

    • Achance

I wrote this way back: http://www.redstate.com/achance/2008/11/22/2012-think-january-2009/

It is dull, boring work, and, yeah, like a poster elsewhere complains of, all they may have for you to do is handbill in a neighborhood you wouldn’t voluntarily go to. But somebody’s got to do it or the bad guys win. Sometimes, they win anyway.

  • Common_Cents

The media explained away and discounted each individual charge against Obama, and totally ignored the entire composite picture of Obama.

He quacks like a duck. “Nahhh. Any serious candidate of change needs to be heard.”

He waddles like a duck. “Nahhh. A guy who plays BBall everyday probably has sore knees! He will be equally competitive in the White House!”

He looks like a duck. “Nahhh. He has his own dapper look, a trendsetter.

    Duck meets Obama.

we are a Republic. In a Democracy, the majority rules, ( not always wisely) — knowing this, the Founding Fathers gave us a Republic. Ben Franklin hoped we would able to preserve this form of government.
By allowing politicians to amass more power, overtake private institutions and take control over our lives, while arrogantly refusing to account for themselves — we may be on the path to losing this form of governemnt.
Read history,( the Romans , for example) — after a Republic comes Democracy, ( majority rule ), then Dictatorship/Ogliarchy, known by several names such as Socialism, Communism or Nazism.
The older generations understood this but the MTV weaned, NEA propaganidized youth/ young adults cannot name their form of government , let alone local leaders or their Senators.
The “tingling up my leg” MSM has made sure they do know who is President and that he can do no wrong whether it is in his associations, socialized programs or choice of ethically challenged persons.

    • http://letsthinkaboutthat.blogspot.com thinklib

      This election proved it.

And the problem isn’t going to get any better.

So perhaps we can find a solution by looking at the music business. Most of the time, the new ‘stars’ are chosen for looks and mass appeal first, talent (if any) second. Maybe we should pick the most handsome/beautiful people among conservative groups and start running them for office. Lots of TV advertising.

It’s sad, but we can’t win a new game by the old rules.

Yes, far too many are ignorant.

But many are just plain stupid too.

          Unfortunately.

I never paid any attention to politics at ALL until about 2 months prior to the election – what I see in Washington has me so torqued up I think I’m going to explode at times. I’ve gotten savvy at reading/replying to blogs, but you are right – time now for action out in the field. I too am from a highly GOP state (although you wouldn’t know it by the recent senate votes by our TN Rinos – er – senators). Unfortunately, we’re stuck with them for another 4 – 6 years. So I’m sure there is much to do, and I’ll check in with the local GOP as well. I agree with the comments on the dismal state of the electorate – too bad you don’t have to have proof of employment or at least a GED to be able to vote… Geez. BTW, have you considered changing your blog name? I didn’t take you seriously at first! No offense, just wondering…

    • http://letsthinkaboutthat.blogspot.com thinklib

I’m going to infiltrate my local GOP one way or the other. That’s job one. Brian Hibbert was right. We can blog to one another all day, which I love, but it’s going to take men and women who care (us) to really get involved at all levels.

As far as the name ‘thinklib’, it’s an old name I used whenever I logged onto Huffington Post. I wanted an ambiguous, yet curious name that could attract the liberal drones to what I was saying before I knocked some sense into them. You ever been on HuffPo? It’s a strange, strange world.

      Conservatives have work to do.

to start calling Obama a Communist? Or would Erick want us to hold off on that? I’ve always known Obama was a Socialist. The tactics exhibited by Obama and his leftist Democrats clearly show where they are taking us. Communism is about bullying, force, state control and suppression of free speech. We already have one party control of the media.

Also, thanks for your humor-it helps!

The Provocateur has an interesting article about the methods ACORN is using to extort money and the like from people and businesses they don’t care for.
One of their methods is fashioned from Alinsky’s Rule # 13:identify, isolate, freeze and escalate. “One such campaign involved H&R Block. ACORN showed up at the home of then CEO, Mark Ernst. The relentlessly harrassed him all over his neighborhood. They showed up everywhere he frequented until he became a pariah in his own neighborhood. They finally got concessions. They teamed up to provide free tax service in low income areas. ACORN got a piece of H&R Block’s Emerald Cards. ”

We need to get off of our duffs and do the same thing! Obama is coming to south Florida to campaign for his “Special Interest Pay-off Stimulus” Package. We should have hundreds of protesters throughout the crowd ready to protest on cue.
We should have hundreds of protesters outside of Dodd’s and Frank’s homes when they are there calling them out on Freddie and Fannie and Dodd’s mortgage issues. At Pelosi’s house about the funds she has steered to her husbands business! There are sooo many “criminal” activities we could call individual democrats on we’d be busy for years!
We need to picket radio stations that they give interviews too, clog their phone lines and web pages like they do when ever a conservative tries to speak. WE HAVE TO MAKE OURSELVES HEARD!
The Democrats are in full out attack mode to silence and destroy the Republican Party. From taking over the census to the so-called Fairness Doctrine they are pushing to ensure decades of Democrat rule over a socialist America and We The People have to fight to stop this.
It’s no coincidence that they are trying to do this while we are busy trying to keep our lives and our families afloat. They are counting on us being too busy and too worried to do anything about it. We have to fight back!

      • http://letsthinkaboutthat.blogspot.com thinklib

The problem is, the libs own the media. Plus, we’re all working and supporting our families, so spending all day protesting in front of someone’s house or political offices isn’t very realistic. I’d glady use my weekends to make my views heard, but as for M-F, I can’t do it. Am I alone in this? Do others have the time to be a real conservative activist? Posting things on RedState is great, but we’re just talking to ourselves. We need more reach and influence in the mainstream culture.
Is there a conservative billionaire out there who wants to start a couple of conservative cable channels with conservative-friendly programming and conservative-friendly advertisements?
        Any other ideas?

  • http://letsthinkaboutthat.blogspot.com thinklib

    Will do.

In Texas, we are trying to get a bill passed to require a photo id in order to vote. Seems like common sense to me, but here in ultra-liberal Austin, Texas there’s opposition. Here’s what I’ve been doing. When I pick up prescriptions from the young 20 year old pharmacy tech, they always ask for an id. I willingly oblige, then comment how you need an id for a prescription and it shouldn’t seem that big a deal to need an id to vote. I usually get a smile and they agree. My kids roll their eyes because they know my angle. Then we talk about needing an id to rent movies, etc. Just planting the seed for the next election any way I can. It might seem small potatos, but for a few seconds I feel like I’ve helped out conservatives.

  • http://letsthinkaboutthat.blogspot.com thinklib

I do that type of ‘suggestive conversion’ to conservative principles all the time. Keep it up.

I live in Texas too. I’m surprised a mostly common sense citizenry is having so much trouble getting such a common sense measure like photo id’s for voting.

    It’s maddening.

Alas, I’ll keep doing my part.

Getting active is the thing to do. You would be surprised what can be done at a local level, & how that affects the state & national level. Be sure to get the RedState action alerts, join Rebuild the Party, & start communicating.
