Texas and Tea Parties and Bellwethers

Big day in Tx. Big day. A primary for a Governor’s race. But its just a primary, its not the BIG election, right?

Then again, maybe it is.

The way I see it, it becomes a sort of bellwether for tea partiers across the nation. Rick Perry was endorsed by tea partiers. Debra Medina is a tea party activist and has garnered support from other activists. And Kay Baily Hutchison has Dick Armey on her side. Armey and his Pac are also followed by the partiers. Every state has several tea party groups so splits are inevitable when there are several conservative candidates. But Texas is big with several candidates and truly blessed with lots of partiers.

Now, the partiers have helped to move things along for Rubio in FL and the Scott Brown win is not something to be trifled with. There’s been other big wins, and some smaller wins in hometown races , and even near wins as in the NY-23 case. (Scozzafava is such a disgrace) So as a force, the partiers can make or break an election.

But back to Texas, where all these Texas party endorsements could cause a runoff. We’ll know tonight. If there is one, Lone Star partiers please do a little gut checking and try to band together to overwhelmingly back a winner in that runoff. Not just a win but a huge win to solidify the tea party’s effect going forward and reminding Washington we are a force, not astroturf.

…is since they are not an ‘official’ organization, just about anybody can CLAIM their support and it may be hard to tell who the real TEA Party favorite really is…even for members of the TEA Party.

is this thread we will discuss results in

Polls are closing a couple minutes

      • proudgop

Perry at 54% with 1% vote in ( really early)

        Kay at 28%

Got this from Dallas Morning news website. Keep in mind only 2 percent totals are in. That’s 188 of 8236 Precincts, and its unclear where those precincts are located,

    Perry , Rick (i) 259,842 53%
    Hutchison , Kay Bailey 149,533 30%
    Medina , Debra 81,856 17%

Can’t really infer a whole lot from such a small percentage of results, but anyway its something to chew on.

Perry still at about 53% vote

it appears there will be runoff on who runs against Edwards and Rodriquez

  • tngal

KBH remains in the in the 30 percent range with Medina in the mid to upper teens.

    Texas – 1101 of 8236 Precincts Reporting – 13%

    Name Votes Vote %
    Perry , Rick (i) 341,565 52%
    Hutchison , Kay Bailey 200,643 31%
    Medina , Debra 108,943 17%

… for Rick Perry, holding my nose the whole time. I don’t like all the Trans-Texas Corridor crap, but I’m more disgusted with Kay Bail-out and Debra Medina, if she’s not a Truther at least appears willing to cater to them. No thanks.

But if it comes down to it, I’d still vote for Kay Bail-out or Medina over either Bill White or Farouk Shami (another Truther and looks like a liberal version of Ross Perot).

I wish we could get Michael Berry to run for governor!

    Repeat as needed.

(who is not looking forward to voting for Mark Kirk in Illinois .. but he’s better than Gianoulias the mafioso …)

Governor Perry extended his lead in the closing days according to the latest polling. With twenty percent of early voters being first time Republican primary voters, it is unclear that Perry can avoid a runoff, but if the polling is right he has a good chance.

I voted for Perry this morning and did so happily. As for this being about Tea for Texas, I’m not so sure. If Medina was to pull off a miracle, it would be a disaster for Texas and the Tea Partiers . . . unless one thinks a Ron Paul type is anything less upstairs than several bricks short of a full load. No way KBH can lay any claim to Tea Party politics, even if my revered former congressman Armey claims otherwise.

Not only is it the day for the Primary but The first day of the Houston livestock show and Rodeo as well as Texas Independence Day. If I felt better, I’d drive to Washington-on-the Brazos today.

…for Perry and other Conservatives. Here in Brazoria County, the Roulans have hijacked the Tea Party name by placing it in there campaign literature even though the local grups have come out to say they don’t directly endorse anyone.
Ron Paul is running radio ads claiming he is the father of the Tea Party movement. He should have said the BBQ movement because he’d rather hold one of those for his out of state supporters then a town hall with his actual constiuents.
Anectdotal to be sure, but many of the folks I’ve seen at the polls expressed support for Tim Graney who is running against the Ronulan Hive Master.
Now to get a nap and wait to open the Precinct Convention…

but those darn judge things are sure hard to figure who to vote for. I’m happy, My congressman is getting Primaried but in the case of TX-14 I hope that Capetbagger get kicked out. A few Medina signs on Aldine-Westfield and FM 1960 but other than that not much from the Hamster with the $20 ad.

That’s a really lousy spot Well that and the sheep thing. At least they didn’t have to pay too much for the talent.

Not a big deal. It just makes things tough on people when a big picture shows up 20 times in a thread you’re in.
