Bachmann files for a Tea Party Caucus

Some caucuses have enough clout to really do some good. Lets hope Bachmann’s will. From the Star-Tribune we get that the paperwork was filed yesterday to form a “House Tea Party Caucus ” and its job will be:

“to promote Americans’ call for fiscal responsibility, adherence to the Constitution, and limited government.” She says this new caucus will “present Democrats with a new counterforce.”

Ok, let’s be honest. How effectual can this caucus become? Obviously it would depend on the number of members. I could see DeMint, maybe a couple of others getting on board. Scott Brown? Doubt it. But its gonna take guts. A lot of candidates call themselves conservative. But how many after they get in, would agree to have the tea party label? Maybe this is a sort of litmus test for some of our candidates running now? Would you be willing to proudly call yourself a member of the Tea Party Caucus? If no, why not?

So, is this grandstanding or this going to be a really good tool for us in the upcoming sessions? Can this be as effective as say the Congressional Black Caucus or will it be more like the Congressional Furnishings Caucus which was utilized during the 108th Congress. I’m not sure what the latter was suppose to do, and that’s why I’m asking these questions.

Will this caucus be a major player when it comes to legislation?

    This is a House caucus.

It would be good to see it reach at least half of the Republicans in congress because it means they could put their guy in charge of the Republicans and possibly the House if win that.

A bicam would have both sens and reps. Rand Paul said Wedneday he wanted one, and Bachmann filed papers yesterday. If her’s isn’t bicameral than Paul may start up one just for the senate. Here’s a quote from Paul on CNN with his thoughts.

“I think I will be part of a nucleus with Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn, who are unafraid to stand up,” Paul said. “If we get another loud voice in there, like Mike Lee from Utah or Sharron Angle from Nevada, there will be a new nucleus.

that I’m not sure how a bicam is formed. Do you form two caucuses, one for senate and one for house and then meld the two once each is established? Or do they just say all legislators from both houses with red hair get togther for one big ole red haired caucus. On this I am fuzzy.

caucus today. I got the feeling that the purpose was to unite a large part of the non-Obamulists (including some Democrats) behind the 3 stated principles. It seems that they see a need to garner support and develop a big tent mandate for the counter-revolution.

There is no arguing with the fact that the country wants fiscal responsibility, Constitutional government and lower taxes.

I support their effort–we need all the leverage we can get to kill the big government beast. Let’s see how the RINOs and other pretenders try to hide if they oppose a tea party caucus with those 3 principles. Plus, this may also help to kill the stupidity of the leftists’ racist claims. Should be interesting watching this develop.

To have dems actually join the TPC would be super. So they are in fact shooting for members from both house and senate right? Why do I get the feeling the term Tea Party is gong to have many of our lawmakers running for the exits. Hah!

That would be quite a coup, seeing as how the establishment is so deeply ingrained there. I suppose if it is tried, it could be a sneaky backdoor way to inject a bit of goldwaterism into the RINO’s game preserve.
