“This is not a stunt. This is a very serious deliberative discussion that’s going on.” That’s the word from Weld County Colorado Commissioner Sean Conway. Apparently, the northern counties are strong in agriculture and energy, but over regulation in the energy industry is causing problems for the nor-Cols and they’re not getting a lot of support from the dem leaders in the legislature or the Governor’s office. “The whole purpose of doing this is to preserve an agricultural way of life and to protect the energy sector, that we feel is very much under assault.”

But Weld county is not wanting to break away on its own. According to the CBS story out of Denver, 7 other nor-Col counties would be involved. And, apparently parts of Nebraska are showing an interest in the possible new state as well. Conway said the matter of secession is “likely’ to be on the ballot in the fall.

Ok. So there’s the background. Colorado is divided. Notice this wasn’t a red v blue move on the part of nor-Col, rather counties who felt they were not getting representation for their concerns unique to their area. Not sure if they can pull this off. Voters in each county would have to approve it first and then petition Congress.

I’m not well versed as to all of Nor-Cols problems. Are the oil and gas regulations that are to blame, state or federal regs? If they’re federal, how wold creating your own state help that much? Other energy rich states are being squeezed by regs as well. And farmers in all states have issues. Personally, I’m rooting for Nor-Col with parts of Nebraska thrown in for good measure if they choose to do so.

And if it happens there, consider that it might open the door for counties in others states to break away.

Tom Donilon* was the national security adviser. He resigned this morning. And now someone needs to fill the post and that someone is Susan Rice. Rice, of course, was the major mouthpiece from the administration assuring us all Benghazi was merely a bunch of people acting out over a little known fim, or something. Remember, Rice was up for Secretary of State but withdrew her name from contention after Republicans said no deal due to the Benghazi bruhaha. So now she gets this job and no vote or confirmation is needed. Musical chairs in DC. The general tone is Donolin had planned to leave after Obama’s first term and that’s not really an unusual excuse.

The NY Times story outlines some of Donolin’s recent duties:

“A central member of Mr. Obama’s foreign-policy team since he first took office, Mr. Donilon, 58, has exerted sweeping influence, mostly behind the scenes, on issues from counterterrorism to the reorientation of America to Asia from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.”

So while rice didn’t get that Secretary of State gig, looks like she got the next best thing in foreign affairs.

* AKA - “Who?”

This was the most contentious battle ever. Not between Republicans and Democrats, rather between Republicans and Republicans. Our primary process was packed with conservatives of all stripes and while we fought amongst ourselves the one who emerged victorious was the one guy a majority of us never picked as a first choice. Oh, we dutifully played our supportive roles in the last few months but it was ugly and, while we fought, they spent their time on their “ground game”. Romney supposedly had a bit of a following and theortically knew what was expected as he had attempted this in the past, but there just wasn’t enought there.

We’ve got plenty of time to groom, and train. And hopefully our trainees will know enough to keep their noses clean and their mouths free from feet over the next couple of years so things they say can’t come back to bite them. And it would put the Republican “leaders” on notice that we are not fooling around, before they start sinking money into their (moderate)favorites effectively shutting ours (conservative) out.

The Daily Caller’s Jamie Weinstein offers up a list of 12 who might possibly fit the bill. I’ve got no problem with Jindal, or Rubio or even Palin for that matter…but I’m not wild about the prospects of Christie and I’m not even sure who Morrow “The Grizz” Taylor is. But he sounds fascinating. Regardless, this isn’t a rehash of Weinstein’s suggestions rather a desire to see if we can reach agreement a little sooner and perhaps have a duck or two groomed ahead of time.

Oh, yeah. That guy Perry was also mentioned, as he’s thinking about another grab at the ring.

It appears I need some clarification. Perhaps you guys can help. Just what exactly was the end purpose of the last couple of years? The wave of 2010, the presidential primary with all its backstabbing and infighting and then that glorious mess we saw yesterday? I was under the, apparently mistaken, belief it was so we could take care of an agenda. We rode this rollercoaster with the intent that congress and the president we installed would aid us with our goals. We don’t have the oval office, but we still have the agenda and its grown.

Get rid of OBAMCARE was one of the things on our to-do list. Even though we took no stock in the polls, some of them actually told us the majority of people are not wild about Obamacare. Okay, so now we are right back where we were two years ago and what’s the plan? Romney kept shifting his stance but we shouldn’t shift ours. Do we work on defunding? What can we do on the Obamacare front?

Another goal was to actually have LESS GOVERNMENT intrusion in our lives. To reduce or abolish departments that are either unnecessary, over-reaching in their regulatory duties, or fiscally irresponsible. And oddly enough, we still need to get rid of some of the bloated government on this day after. How can we can we accomplish this?

Fix this ECONOMIC morass we’re in. This cyclone of spending, and borrowing, and taxing. This hasn’t changed. Despite what the unemployment numbers have shown lately, I’m not convinced we’re down much at all. And we know employment is what’s needed to generate revenue to help pay off the debt and adequately fund those departments that are truly needed.

The ENERGY issue. We’ve still got to deal with that and its obvious our idea of all of the above and Obama’s are two different ideas. He’s wasted so much taxpayer money on his green energy dreams while choking with red tape those things needed to truly cut our foreign dependancy on oil.

So, now we are right back where we started from. Same scenario with no oval office, no Senate, a questionable Scotus. We can spend the next two years trying to educate an apathetic public and its a worthy goal but we can’t focus on just educating. Because we tried that over the last two years. We showed them how this administration was hurting our country. They didn’t appear concerned that their money was wasted on the Solyndras of this administration. We detailed how an ambassador and others died on American soil because of lack of action from this administration. They are nonplussed. We appealed to their nurturing sensiblities, explaining that borrowing money from China for wasteful things only hurt their children’s future. They could care less. We have yet to find the magic formula that makes them understand public housing, free phones and foodstamps are not intended for a lifetime they are merely bridges. Free pills are not a constitutional right. They are in fear of losing all these things as well being under a paranoid delusion we are taking away their big birds and vaginas. Either they are not listening or we are all really crappy teachers.

How do we go about taking care of our to do list now while educating them that big bird can live on through capitalism? I’m not sure we’d get good guidance from the Karl Rove and Orrin Hatch establishment types. Its up to us. Thoughts, ideas, anyone? Bueller?

If you’re like me you have gone to innumerable websites reading stories on the destruction Sandy has wrought, the human toll thus far, the financial toll expected, breathtaking photos, etc. But some stories fall into the hmmmm category. They’re the ones you read that for some reason make you extremely angry, some may make you laugh, and some may just leave you questioning …Why did they do that? So, if you don’t have a lot of time to write up a diary and find something interesting please drop a post here.

I’ll start with a something found today on which combines the Occupy Wall Streeters and Sandy. Occupy has its own website. Well it did until “bubble ” went down. Here’s what was posted on the front page. From OWS:
“ We’re sorry, OccupyWallSt.org is currently experiencing downtime. Our website is hosted on a server named bubble whose home is in the lower tip of Manhattan’s financial district. Due to severe weather caused by global warming wrought by an unsustainable and selfish economic system known as capitalism, the power went out in bubble’s house and flooding destroyed the diesel pumps to the backup generators.” http://occupywallst.org/

On the plus side, this had the absolute cutest picture of a bunny on it. But when you tear your eyes away from the bunny and read the above line, we are suppose to believe a “selfish economic system known as capitalism” caused their power to go out? Really?

UPDATE: Forget the OWS link as they have already taken it down and replaced with the usual OWS drivel. I can’t find the cute bunny pic on there anymore either. So, don’t click as it will just cause them to view their page hits and then erroneously deduce someone actually cares about what they’re doing.

Two weeks out and it appears the democrats are throwing everying they have to the media hoping something will stick. Lets start with Gloria Allred, famed attorney for suffering women everywhere. She’s been licking her chops for a week teasing about a bombshell October surprise, and it could be what’s featured in TMZ today (H/T Hot Air). Surprise!!! Romney knows someone who got a divorce. Yeah, I know. Bit of a letdown. TMZ was told Allred represents someone connected to the divorce.

The basics indicate one of his main supporters, Tom Stemberg, a co-founder of Staples got a divorce from his first wife and the battle raged for quite a while. Years in fact. So, it was a long, long time ago. It was not pretty and the records were sealed. Not unusual in high profile, big money cases. Also, Romney gave a deposition and even testified at the divorce hearing. Today we learn the Boston Globe is working to get those old court papers unsealed because they contain “juicy information about Romney.” And there goes a flying kitchen sink.

They’ve thrown Bigbird, bayonets, binders and Biden at Romney. These things have not helped Obama, but they’re desperate and it shows. This has nothing to do with the economy which most voters have made clear is their main concern right now. This is designed to..honestly I’m not really sure what the heck it’s designed to do. I mean it could redirect people’s attention from the polls, but the numbers will still be there and Obama will still be dropping. Is it suppose to get everyones mind off Libya? Really? Not happening and no contest.

Well, whatever their motives, Romney doesn’t care so that’s that. An article up on Politico says Romney has no problem with the records being unsealed and that basically Romney provided testimony on the value of Staples stock which was part of the divorce settlement. And consider, Romney has run for political office several times and has been scrubbed and any potentially harmful oppo out there would have been brought up by now.

This is an embarrassment to the Democratic party, which is fine by me. My concern lies with Donald Trump who has promised his own October bombshell moment. Please Trump, do not let it be equally embarrassing for us.

This is sad. But to be expected, when we’re talking Candy Crowley. TMZ uncovered a nice email nugget from CNN’s managing editor that got sent throughout their offices yesterday which heaps praise on Candy Crowley. It highlights her ”superb” performance moderating despite being”… under the most difficult circumstances imaginable.” And then they list off all the hardship she’s been under. Ok, to be clear here, there wasn’t any mortar fire surrounding this debate. It was just politics. But, again, them praising her was to be expected. They are propping up one of their own and honestly wouldn’t you love it if your boss said nice things about you?

The next portion of the email TMZ put up launches off into Romney supporters going after her “…. no doubt because their man did not have as good a night as he had in Denver.” Uh, no Mr. CNN Dude(Mark Whitaker), that’s not why we’re going after her. We’re going after her because she was biased and her slip was showing.

But when it came down to the question of time limits, CNN Dude just wandered off into weird. One of the key things about moderating is keeping the candidates within their alloted time frames. And just like the first debate, Obama was given more time Tuesday. The email helpfully points out :

“…. it should be noted that Candy and her commission producers tried to keep it even but that Obama went on longer largely because he speaks more slowly. We’re going to do a word count to see whether, as in Denver, Romney actually got more words in even if he talked for a shorter period of time.”

Obama gets more time because he talks slower? So, you’re saying if Romney were to talk slower he’d get more time? Oh, and you’re going to do a word count because Romney gets more words in? So Romney can think fast and make decisions on his feet. Maybe even at 3:00am. Are you going to request the debate committee start putting in word count restrictions? The rules pertain to time allotment not word allotment. Look, I’m sorry your guy is a slow thinker and an even slower talker but that’s no excuse for not abiding by the rules.

Seeing as how so many threads got hijacked, thought maybe it would be a good time to open one up. Here ya go. Land of the feel free to spit it out. Rather than putting the first post in the diary, I’ll put it here.

I’ll start off with SHAME!!! Shame on Newt’s Tennessee team for a quitting him yesterday and going to Santorum. The Knoxville News Sentinal reported Senator Stacey Campfield has jumped and taken a few others with him. .

“Campfield said Santorum called him personally earlier, even though he was an outspoken advocate of Gingrich and co-chairman of the former U.S. House speaker’s campaign in the state. After he met with the other legislators, Campfield said he met separately with Santorum, who “asked me to leave Newt Gingrich and support him.”

The paper also goes on to say “ Campfield said three of the five people on the 2nd Congressional District ballot Tuesday as candidates to become committed Gingrich delegates to the Republican National Convention have joined Campfield in switching to Santorum supporters.”

http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/mar/04/super-tuesday-switch-gingrich-co-chairman-backs/

As much as I have my heart set to writing in Herman, I will have to vote Newt just because this was dirty 3 days before super Tuesday.

Feel free to complain about whatever.

What a day Cainiacs! All the doom and gloom and hang wringing and for what. I personally think not a lot, if this is all they got. Because so much was focused on this–how about a tally of the good news of the day. First, things seem ok in Iowa. From Burns and Haberman (yeah Politico). They talked with Steve Grubbs, Cain’s Iowa Chairman. “I | Read More »

“I bet we’ll land more precinct captains than we did before the story” and”These sorts of distractions are not stopping our campaign from reaching our daily goals.”

Grubbs, who declined to comment on how Cain and his national staff are handling the situation, said the campaign in Iowa has “a full phone bank of volunteers” making calls on Cain’s behalf Monday. He said the story is “not much of a distraction.”

Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1011/67240.html#ixzz1cOs0wmpG

So, a full phone bank sounds good. True supporters are NOT running off in droves. Remember those are volunteers so they could have walked at any time or not bothered to show up.

Next, lets zip to Texas. Cain tops Perry by one point (statistically tied) in the new Univ. Tex/Texas Tribune poll. Yes this was surveyed before the bombshell. But its a Texas poll. Perry should have mopped the floor with him. But this is not evidence of a mopping. In fact, I’m not seeing a good dusting.

“Cain got 27 percent to Perry’s 26 percent among Texas registered voters who identify themselves as Republicans. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul was next with 12 percent, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 9 percent and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 8 percent.” Other candidates got 2 percent or less. If the hit piece hadn’t been announced last night this would have been the story of the day.

http://www.texastribune.org/texas-politics/2012-presidential-election/cain-edges-perry-new-uttt-poll/

In case you don’t know how the campaign came to be this year there is a great article from NRO featuring Marc Block. he talks with Robert Costa. Its four pages long and very insightful. Not gotcha questions or that sort of stuff. Just a nice background piece on how they met, and what the strategy was going to be.

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/281534/blowing-smoke-robert-costa?pg=1

And there also came out another hit piece today (shocking) concerning campaign finance rules. I don’t know enough about this stuff which is why I’m not tops on anybody’s list to be on a preosidential campaign. The good news is the campaign says they are on this, and have already asked for an outside review.

“As with any suggestions of this type, we have asked outside counsel to investigate the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s suggestions and may comment, if appropriate, when that review is completed,” Block said in an e-mailed statement.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iIRi9FJxU3kKkqebH2_xsh-H5Qig?docId=66637de6e7cc4c8e9ea07c9ab3d078bc

Take heart cainiacs. Add the good stuff if I missed it.
