The Republican field isn’t thin

The best Republican candidates have decided not to run!  Tomorrow night, Fox News will broadcast a debate between the declared Republican candidates: Tim Pawlenty, Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, Rick Santorum, and Herman Cain. Two other declared candidates: Buddy Roemer and Fred Karger have been excluded because they don’t have even 1% support.   What a joke.  Wouldn’t you rather have a debate between the Republican candidates who have decided not to run:  Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindall, John Thune, Mike Pence, Haley Barbour and Jeb Bush?  Now that would be interesting, full of fireworks and straight talk with lots of strong candidates to choose from. Could we please rethink this whole nomination process?

    Let’s take a poll:

Would lyou prefer for the Republican candidate for President to be chosen from:

    A: Ron Paul, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum,, Tim Pawlenty, Gary Johnson, Buddy Roemer, and Fred Karger;

B: Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, Haley Barbour, Mike Pence, John Thune, and Jeb Bush:

C: Donald Trump, Michelle Bachman, Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani:

    D: None of the Above

My point excactly. This first debate is a snoozer.

by the way, fellow cat, your diary isn’t installed properly, according to admin.

I would, and have posted repeatedly, prefer for our next presidential candidate to be one of the following:

Barbour, Bush (Jeb), Cain, Daniels, Johnson, Palin, Pawlenty, or Pence.

Note – that’s in alphabetical order.

I find your arbitrary lists to be just that – arbitrary. There’s no reason for a Romney (well-known and well-funded) or a Christie (not running) to participate in this “debate” .. and every reason for a Johnson (underfunded underdog) or Roemer (money-grubbing) to do so.

If you stop thinking of it as a “debate” and instead think of it as a publicity stunt, it starts making more sense.

And yes, something glitched when I registered and I can’t write a diary. Neil has mentioned that he may have a fix on the horizon.

      Daniels
      Pawlenty
      Barbour

If they aren’t a gov then I’m not interested.

And I’m not interested in another Bush … simply because I don’t think they can win.

Republicans who I’ve heard mentioned who I have no interest in seeing get the nominee: Huckabee (will be awful), Palin (will lose), Trump (both), Guiliani (pro-abort)

Can’t believe you didn’t include him. He is the BEST. If you’re not convinced, do this little thought exercise: Imagine a debate between Barack Obama and Paul Ryan.

I thought the lists were obvious by candidate status:

    A. Definitely yes.

    B. Definitely no

    C. Definitely maybe.

    D. Mitch Daniels and anybody else you can think of.

I also would prefer a governor with Jeb Bush my first choice, because I do think he would win (Florida and the Hispanic vote in Coloroado, Nevada, and New Mexico are critical)). Daniels is my 2nd choice, because I agree that we need to stay off the social issues until after the election. If he also doesn’t run,, then Palwlenty is my 3rd choice. Since I vote in South Carolina, I might actually get a say before the field is completely decimated.
