Is it time to punt?

Sometimes the best thing you can do in a football game is to punt.  Much better to do that, pinning your opponent deep in his own territory, than go for it on 4th down and fail to get the first down.

With the deadline rapidly approaching and the House having passed “Cut, Cap, and Balance”, Republican leaders should now take the position–”we’ve down our job.  Show us what you’ve got President Obama.  Show us what you’ve got Harry Reid.”  Of course the Senate may pass the McConnell Pontius Pilate Act, but that is getting a little bit less likely.  If they do pass it, Republicans can block it in the House.  Even more unlikely is that the Gang of Six proposal can make the legislative cut-off.

With the clock winding down, Conservatives are ahead by a field goal.  There is no need for further negotiations. Punt and put in the prevent defense.  Hold the line with 41 strong votes in the Senate and 218 in the House.  Force the Senate and Obama to accept the inevitable–CCB.  Unless, of course, the Democrats want to default on the national debt and bring on Armageddon.

Last week: “August 2nd is the drop dead date. GOP pushes seniors over the cliff on August 3rd as we’re out of money.”

Earlier this week: “I will veto any short-term debt limit increase. I need it to get past the November ’12 elections.”

Today: “Now that the GOP let me put their privates in a vise and they’re busy committing hara-kiri, a short-term extension to maintain that status quo is quite okay.”
