MEMBER DIARY

If a diary falls in the forest . . .

So, this is my first diary since the RedState conversion took place.  And to be honest, I am only writing as an experiment to see what is possible in order to allow others to read a diary without actually seeking me out or tracking me down through the comments section.  While I miss writing, I really miss reading other members’ diaries.  But, if you’re reading this then my experiment to overcome the glitches in the web-site have succeeded.

While I appreciate the effort by Bill S. to post an open thread that is available for members to post their thoughts on the front page, I would suggest an alternative.  Until the web-site is functioning as intended, could one of the front page writers post a “Members Diaries Open Thread”, where members could cut-and-paste the link to their diaries with the title provided in the Comments section.

I love RedState and I look forward to once again being able to read the diaries without jumping through hoops.  Hopefully that will be soon.  In the meantime, sorry but I have forgotten all of the witty and insightful things that I had to say during the RNC.

I read it toonces, and I like the suggestion. Love the title.

By the way, didn’t you predict Thune? Maybe by the time everything’s recovered, nobody will remember. LOL. Sorry – just couldn’t help needling a little, but hey, you can vote it down now.

That down arrow is a real downer! Sometimes I have more downs thans ups and think, “what’d I say?” Teehee Just read part of a diary you wrote on July 4th you old Bible thumping, flag waving American you. All of the diary wasn’t there but I loved the beginning.

Thanks, emptybucket. I don’t care about the arrows so much. If that’s the only way some poor basement dweller can get his jollies, I say have at it.

They just go through an press the down arrow for anything they see. It must rank below watching paint dry as entertainment.

LOL, earlgrey. Certainly more fun than the DNCC, especially now that the big event has been downsized.

Down arrows are a very small part of weighting comments. Disqus used to only offer ‘Flag as Inappropriate’ and they have found much higher response rates and less false positives with up/down arrows.

The up/down arrows are NOT being used to indicate inappropriate content. They are being abused, most likely be non-member Leftists. It’s pretty obvious what’s happening when the left-troll comments get voted up and the patently conservative comments get voted down. They must go away.

Actually I predicted T-Paw. I didn’t think Romney had it in him to choose Ryan.

Nice surprise for all of us, toonces. And I see I got a thumbs down. LOL.

Not from me. I gave you a thumbs up.

Yes, “mere diarists” have been relegated to a mere link to diaries. Oh well….

    • http://colorado.mediatrackers.org/ Aaron Gardner

Trust me, not one of the contributors is referring to diarists as “mere diarists.” In fact, we have been battling with the tech side to get the diaries fixed. We realize that the community is a big part of our success.

I think it is unfair to try and paint the contributors as elitist and the diarists are the downtrodden masses. It serves no purpose at all to try and create this division.

We are working to make the site better and the community stronger, the fact that there have been mistakes shouldn’t be used as a reason to feel cheated, or relegated to mere links.

I have to wonder if you even realize that comments like yours do nothing but crap on all the work the contribs are trying to get done for the community. In the long run, if your attitude takes hold, that will be the real death of the community.

You know are no longer a ‘mere diarist.’ As Aaron suggests, this was simply a technical issue, not a slight by anyone. My apologies. Your diaries are now showing as they have before. Please continue to vent your frustrations with the code changes and we’ll do our best to get them all resolved.

Well looks like Members are back in the game. Now that you can see this diary, you can all ignore the suggestion, which s now irrelevant. Thanks to all the techies for finally getting this right again.
