Yard Sale for America
By: tooncesthecat (Diary) | July 25th at 09:05 PM |
I’ve seen that several readers have stuff or money they are willing to donate to help out with the debt crisis. I betcha every American has at least a couple or five thousand dollars worth of stuff laying around their house, stuffed in their attic or taking up space in their garage that they could easily part with. So forget the Boehner Plan, the McConnell | Read More »
Oops! We’re not going broke on August 2nd after all.
By: tooncesthecat (Diary) | July 25th at 01:20 PM |
It seems as though Secretary Geitner and President Obama were wrong. The United States will not default on August 2 after all. The 80 million checks can be issued as planned. Armageddon has been postponed for 8 days. How did this happen? It seems that projecting government income and expenditures isn’t rocket science–it’s not science at all–it’s anybody’s guess. And Geitner guessed wrong by several | Read More »
The dog that didn’t bark
By: tooncesthecat (Diary) | July 25th at 10:10 AM |
Despite predictions and dire warnings after the collapse of debt ceiling negotiations between Obama and Boehner on Friday, there was no comparable collapse of the world or U. S. markets on Monday morning. The Asian markets, which lead off the days trading and were looked to for a signal of how investors would react, were slightly down but within a normal days trading. Ames straw poll ballot helps Perry and Palin
By: tooncesthecat (Diary) | July 24th at 06:25 PM |
and hurts Romney, Huntsman, and Gingrich. How can that be true when Perry’s and Palin’s names were left off the ballot by the 17 member committee? Because the committee included (for the first-time) a blank line for write-in candidates and decided to count and report the write-in totals. Since perception is 90% of the result of the Ames Straw Poll, this means that Perry and/or | Read More »
Charles Krauthammer is right
By: tooncesthecat (Diary) | July 23rd at 12:13 AM |
Krauthammer says that John Boehner and the House Republicans should call Obama’s bluff. Earlier this week, he proposed that the Republicans should pass a $500 billion cut in spending and a $500 billion increase in the debt ceiling. This would buy 3 to 5 months of time to work towards passage of tax reform and to sell CCB. After the President’s press conference tonight, | Read More »
The point of no return: July 22
By: tooncesthecat (Diary) | July 21st at 02:03 PM |
Sometime within the next 24 hours of so, the United States government will pass the point of no return on raising the debt ceiling. After July 22 has come and gone with no deal, there will not be enough time to draft and pass legislation to avoid the coming apocalypse predicted for August 2 (by the President, Tim Geitner, and MSNBC). So–beginning tomorrow–a series of | Read More »
Is it time to punt?
By: tooncesthecat (Diary) | July 20th at 07:37 PM |
Sometimes the best thing you can do in a football game is to punt. Much better to do that, pinning your opponent deep in his own territory, than go for it on 4th down and fail to get the first down. With the deadline rapidly approaching and the House having passed “Cut, Cap, and Balance”, Republican leaders should now take the position–”we’ve down our job. | Read More »
The “Ron Paul” Rule for the Ames Straw Poll
By: tooncesthecat (Diary) | July 18th at 12:18 PM |
To be taken as a serious challenger to Mitt Romney for the Republican nomination, a candidate has to finish ahead of Ron Paul in the Ames Straw Poll. This may be a high standard to meet, since Paul is going all out in Iowa to try to win the straw poll. He paid $31,000 to get the prime location beside the entrance to the polling | Read More »
South Carolina to Obama: So Sue Us—Again
By: tooncesthecat (Diary) | June 22nd at 08:03 PM |
On Tuesday, the South Carolina legislature passed one of the toughest anti-immigration laws in the country–an action that is sure to draw a suit from the ACLU and, more than likely, the U.S. Justice Department. The law attacks illegal immigration on a variety of fronts. First, all businesses licensed by the state are required to use the federal government’s E-Verify system to ensure that every | Read More »
Bachmann surges into second place
By: tooncesthecat (Diary) | June 16th at 03:33 PM |
In the first poll taken following the Republican debate in New Hampshire, Michele Bachmann has taken over second place with a strong showing of 19% among likely Republican primary voters. Romney further tightened his grip on first place with 33% of those polled. The other candidates who participated in the debate neither gained nor lost support. This poll is bad news for Tim Pawlenty, who | Read More »
