Scott Brown is STILL a Tea Party win, he’s just become “disposable” now

Disposable like a Bic lighter

There’s a lot of gnashing of teeth today over Senator Scott Brown joining the ranks of joining the Democrat Underground of Snowe and Collins in supporting the Left’s “financial overhaul” bill.

Snowe even spewed her usual “We Have To Do Something(c)” bs;

“While not perfect, the legislation takes necessary steps to implement meaningful regulatory reforms, create strong consumer protections and restore confidence in the American financial system,” Snowe said in a statement Monday evening.

Well, the Maine Twins we have come to expect this from, but did anyone really that Scott Brown was a “Conservative”? Even local papers in MA. called him, at best, a “moderate”.

The left is full of glee today at how Scott Brown is giving the Tea Party “buyer’s remorse“, but here’s something a knucklehead like Adam Sorensen writing for Time’s blog section will never comprehend, and something those who supported Brown need to remember; Scott Brown is still a Tea Party win, and we need to rub their noses in it.

The Tea Party snatched what the Democrats took for granted was “their” seat in perpetuity, and forced them in panic to show their true colors when it came to Health Care Deform. They actually considered as viable the Deem and Pass option;

…once upon a time they taught that under the U.S. Constitution a bill had to pass both the House and Senate to become law. Until this week, that is, when Speaker Nancy Pelosi is moving to merely “deem” that the House has passed the Senate health-care bill and then send it to President Obama to sign anyway.

Scott Brown today remains more likely to be swayed by reason than his Democrat opponent ever would have been, and probably easier even than the Moron Twins in Maine (Senators Collins and Snowe). As a friend recently told me; “I think the soft bigotry of low expectations is in order with MA. [Sen Scott Brown].”

That said, my friend also said; “Even if Brown is a disappointing squish, we really NEED his vote now.”

Yes we do, and he needs to be reminded of that, especially now.

I’m not saying anyone has to pretend to support or even like Scott Brown, I’m just saying he’s still better than any alternative would have been given the circumstances You didn’t waste any money you may have donated to his campaign (unless you actually thought he was a “true Conservative”, in which case Fool Me Once applies), any more than you wasted money you may have spent buying a Bic lighter that is now empty. It served its purpose. If you get a spark out of it on occasion, great! Keep it around, even though it may annoy the crap out of you most of the time, until you have to chance to replace it.

Then throw it away.

Hey! Here’s a happy coincidence, Scott Brown and Barack Obama are up for re-election at the same time; 2012.

    but he’s our squish.

“Scott Brown today remains more likely to be swayed by reason than his Democrat opponent ever would have been”

    Absolutely right.

In recent times a lot of these occupants of seats on the hill think it is a lifetime career instead of a tour of duty. Even Barry Goldwater was somewhat different as a US Senator 1957-1965 than he was in his later years,

Every time I get to liking one, he/she runs out of fuel and I have to toss it and look for another…

  • The_Rebel

was really just a moderate Republican. You could count the number of conservative State Senators on one hand, given that you can count the total number of Republican State Senators also on one hand. That’s 35 Democrats and 5 Republicans.

But had the “Kennedy seat” gone to Coakley, you could have expected 6 more years of Kennedy-style voting. There will be other votes that we will be thankful for having elected Scott Brown, though I admit those may be fewer than I originally thought.

    • The_Rebel

I will say this, however. If Brown votes for Kagan, then he will have completed his transformation to the dark side.

      • IJB

I’d love to have unified GOP opposition to Kagan, but we’ll likely lose at least one, and probably three or four votes on this.

I’d say the one *guaranteed* ‘Yes’ GOP vote is Brown – he simply will not have the stones to oppose a nominee from his home state.

He should. But it’ll never happen, I predict…

        • The_Rebel

then I will predict now that he will not be re-elected in 2012. However, you’re probably right and the Maine twins, at the least, will come to his rescue to give him cover.

line when the Senate is completely run by actual Conservatives. He of course will NOT be getting a damn dime from my pocket EVER again but he is a “smart” man he like Charlie Crist will find a way to get some money (I guess).

Scott Brown has long stated his liberal to moderate views on various issues and is conservative on only a few. Certainly given the Demonrat practice of “lock step” he is much preferred over the Demonrat alternatives in his state. It would be wonderful to see Christian conservatives, who truly are conservatives, not “get in the majority and spend like Demonrat lite”, take the House this fall and the Senate as well with a majority. In order to do this, they will need to advance solutions to Obamacare, Obamanomics, Obamasocialism, Obama border security, Obama bowing to moon worshipping leaders such as the Saudi prince, etc. We work for Christian conservatives who advocate they will support legislation when it satisfies the following criteria: 1. Is it Biblical? 2. Is it supported by the U.S. Constitution? 3. Is it supported by my constituents? This is the standard of Dr. Paul Broun, our Congressman and we are working to elect others like him.

Not me. I would rather a Dem. vote for Democrats than Repbulican vote for them.

      More like keep some perspective.
We could tone down the attacks somewhat and keep him at arm’s length so he doesn’t shut us all out and quit listening totally.
Another overt, avowed “Maverick” we don’t need.

  • renny

but he is a MA Republican, not a cons. Rep. Still, he shouldn’t be voting to kill the financial industry and adding one more ec. sector to Obamanation’s control plate.

  • Swamp_Yankee

All 41 Republicans will be critical during the lame duck session. Obama will do whatever to push as much of his agenda through, and after the elections, it will not be about ideology, but about respecting the will of the people. Brown and all 40 GOP Senators should be on board with that. They should create a stone wall. We need all 41 of them.

Also, you cant judge him just on his votes, which people tend to do because items only come to a vote when they already know they have the ‘yays’. There are many things that never get to the floor because of the delays he’s caused and the possibility of a filibuster, such as immigration. so his value is tough to measure.

Last, people complained over the other times he crossed the aisle, mostly people from out of states and strident conservatives. They made all kinds of threats, but he still polled as the most popular poltiician in Massachusetts:

    http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2010/06/28/brown_outpolls_kerry_obama/

That poll was after all the faebook threats and interstate threats, which really dont represent Massachusetts.

      there are checks and balances.

Scott Brown may not always vote like a rock-ribbed conservative but he is a blessing for keeping America’s checks and balances and keeping Congress from becoming a rubber stamp for leftwing extremist actions.

      • gekster

So he has been much better than you think.

  • GregInFla

If he violates those pledges, and you can see it all on his website. For example, he is against amnesty for illegals and want to “strengthen our border”. He is in favor of 2nd Amendment, and that marriage is between a man and a woman. He claims to be against cap and trade.

Now, if he votes to affirm a SCOTUS nominee who opposes these positions, he votes for amnesty or votes for cap and trade, then everyone who donated money and voted for him should rise up and say “HOLD ON THERE, SENATOR!”

    • GregInFla

And one of those screaming would be me. I even bought a “people’s seat” t-shirt after he won.

  • IJB

“The Hill” is reporting that Brown will oppose the DISCLOSE Act.

If Brown sinks that bill, we actually owe him a lot.

So it’s still a ‘mixed’ bag with this guy all the way down the line…
