of the division among people over an issue that should be decided based on facts.

You write as if you know what you're talking about. Better than the others who oppose the Fed, I might add. But some of them believe they know what is true, too. Most of the rest of us are simply picking sides based on other factors and cheering from the sidelines.

Naturally, this is a logical result of the complexity of the Fed. It isn't a simple, straight-forward matter. Or maybe I'm wrong about that. But I doubt it.

Frank Luntz made a point the other night that folks in WI can't even agree on facts. I was disappointed that he didn't go on with the theme and point out that such disagreement is the direct result of a failure of the free press--it isn't reporting the facts. If it were, all sources would be reporting the same facts, clearly. Instead, we get facts cloaked so deeply in opinion that we get only their "interpretation." That is true with the Fed, to the extent that facts about it are reported at all.

I can't say that I "know" much about the Fed, but I think I know that a reversion to the gold standard would in fact be a disaster today. I don't have the numbers, but I think that gold would have to be priced way above $1700/oz if we re-tied the dollar to our gold reserves. Hmmm. Now who would that help?

I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm just saying this is an example of how an issue that should be resolvable on the basis of research-accessible and verifiable "facts," isn't.

The Democrats - including Wilson - ran against it and the supposed 'money trust', but compromised and allowed it to be created in exchange for putting Presidential appointees on the board.

The FED was originally supposed to be an evolution of the (unconstitutionally destroyed) 2nd Bank of the US - a federated version of Hamilton's banking system, large enough to handle the needs of a half-continent sized nation vs 13 colonies plus-a-few...

That the progressives supported it, is a stuck-clock scenario.

The FED is hands-down the best designed & best-functioning method of setting monetary policy anywhere in the world...

Regardless of what Ron Paul, Pete 'Pants-on-Fire' Schiff, and Glen Beck say...
