The Strategic Brilliance of Barack Obama.

And the real reason it should be of interest to Republicans.

There is an old adage in US politics: ‘don’t get into an argument with a guy that buys ink by the barrel.’

Yet that is exactly what Obama did. Why?

Just what did Obama do here? He did several things:

He put the Republicans there… and indeed everywhere, on notice that Limbaugh won’t be able to help them.

He told then that he was in charge… and that any and all ‘blessings’ will come to him through him… and only him.

And he brought into the ‘fight’ Limbaugh… the guy on the right that buys ink by the barrel… at least metaphorically.

Of the first two, he did that with this statement and with his “I won.” comment. They could be viewed correctly as that ‘first rock over the wall’ or ‘first shot across the bow’ Also by the timing of this ‘attack’ as well as it’s ‘severity’ it would also seem that Obama is using his own brand of ‘shock and awe’ on the Congressional Republicans.

All of that, no matter how we might feel about it, is sound strategy… hit first, hit hard and establish dominance.

But Limbaugh and all that ink?

The positives for Obama, he took aim for and hit the conservative 800# Gorilla, right from the start. This shows that he lacks fear of Limbaugh, and that he is ready to ‘take him on.’ Strength on strength.  It also served to pacify those in his party that have been calling for ‘blood’ and thinking that Obama might not be ‘pure’ in his ideology with some of the Clinton era appointments. ‘Red Meat’ for his not so happy far left.

And the negatives?

Not a one.

But… but… but… it’s Rush, Barrels of ink, 800# Gorilla!

Yeah… so?

What? Is Rush somehow now going to hate Obama anymore than he did the day before? Is Rush going to talk more about Obama now… more than he has been? Is this ‘attack’ on Rush gong to somehow keep Limbaugh from making ‘peace’ with and going easy on Obama?

Hardly.

Obama, or someone near to him knows all this. The shock and awe, the establishing dominance, strength on strength, all that stuff. And that attacking Limbaugh carried no downside whatsoever.

So here my friends is the brilliance part: Team Obama knows this…

BUT THE GUYS IN THE GOP IN SPITE Of MY PREACHING IT ENDLESSLY, DO NOT KNOW ANY OF THIS STUFF!

Particularly the ‘no downside’ ‘could they ever hate up more than they do already’ part.

Which they can’t.

There is not now nor will there ever be a downside to a conservative attacking… anyone on the left… be they politician, media, moonbat, anyone. They hate us when we are nice, when we ‘work with them’ when we are bipartisan. They already hate us, just how much more could they possibly hate us if we were actually… well… conservative.

Obama knows on day 3 that Bush and most of the GOP failed to learn in 8 years.

Brilliant

    considerable collateral damage.

Obama, did one of two things today with his invoking of Limbaugh. Either it meant sink or swim with his policy or that Rush Limbaugh is a threat to his policies.

Of course we all know that Rush is a threat to him whether he likes it or not. The real question is the following, will the Republicans sink or swim?

Do not give Obama more credit than he deserves. 4 or 8 years you pick, regardless of what Obama does his policies are tired and old and will fail with us standing around with little consilation saying “I told you so”.

Take the man making millions over the man who foolishly spends trillions.

    • DONTREADONME

If Obama was smart he would not invoke Rush Limbaugh. The man does is not in office or running. If he was sticking to a good strategy he would have said we are not going to continue the failed policies of the Bush administration or that McCain would have been elected if we wanted to go with your stimulus plan. Using Rush can only bring him more listeners.

      • DONTREADONME

you may have a point, only time will tell. I myself would have not picked or singled out Rush as a conversation peice as the POTUS, it looks desperate and cheap.

the repubs use of the term “welfare” to characterize the Obama tax credits. This was a strategic and innacurate gop ploy, but Obama’s “i won” and rush reference were emotional responses by an immature man.

taxes sans lock box by saying they are on welfare they will lose this battle.

are taxes. I agree the Republicans may have chose the wrong words to term that as welfare; however, I think the flipside of the arguement deals with how people like myself view it. We see Social Security and Medicare as the flip side, the money is paid out to people for retirement, disability, medical and pharmaceuticals. Sometimes it is an error to forget that taxes from paychecks for these two things are just that taxes; however, sometimes we are giving back the only money some people pay in taxes.

A better way to do this would be to lower both the income taxes on the tax brackets and reduce the FICA and Medicare for those whose witholdings or income are below a tax bracket, but again who decides what.

After writing all of this above, I see your point on using the term welfare.

be means tested and be what FDR originally intended, i.e. a supplement to prevent old age destitution. We should abandon the fiction that it is a pension.

One thing that a lot of FDR critics ignore is that FDR died in 1945 and that the real “villains” are the congresses immediately after FDR of both parties in the late 40s and 50s.

Incredibly, Chris Matthews book, “Kennedy and Nixon” contains some enlightening info on this. Nixon, JFK and Eleanor actually tried to get the New Deal scaled back in the 50s. I kid you not.

And Obama has no qualms in talking his distaste of Rush in front of the Republicans/Conservative lawmakers.

The Reps/Cons should have walked out of that meeting…. but no…. somehow they are also VERY interested with the 1 TRILLION STIMULUS PACKAGE.

    So sad!

I have a theory that a fair # of people who listen to Rush do so because it allows a release of tension and hostility at the ineptitude that is our government (and would otherwise be directed at it). Shutting down Rush would provide those people with little/no outlet for their frustrations, hence they would be more suspectible to contemplate revolt.

      • Rod_Patrick

and work as a “revolutionary conservative”, ready to die just to bring down this Oppressive Government!

Using Obama’s standard, the then Bush Administration should have shut down the following:

        MOVEON
        ACLU
        Huntington Post

        ….and many others.

        • jonathanswift

is not what he was. You notice he did not invoke Mark Levin.

            What are you smoking?

  • rbdwiggins

Obama interjected Rush into the debate precisely because Obama does fear Rush.

Obama knows he’s in way over his head, and he’s pleading for help in order to confront someone he apparently considers to be a real threat to his administration.

Is like the little rosebush that could. He is full of flowers, if only more conservatives would stop and smell, but to the ONE, he is simply a Crown of Thorns that he has to bear. Rush sees the ONE as he really is: a typical thug politician from Chicago who has simply assended to His throne. There is no brilliance is the ONE’S statement, he simply is playing by Chicago’s street rules, while the GOP was (is) playing on Sesame street. Rush sees what the one really stands for: He is a weed that needs to be stopped from spreading. The Lamestreme media is the watering can while El Rusbo is weed puller. El Prezbo simply doesn’t like opposition. After all, that is the Chicago Way.
