Earlier this evening, as most of you now know, one of our own, Rush Hudson Limbaugh, while taking withering fire, crashed and burned.
Tonight, Rush is no longer ‘just’ a radio personality.
Tonight, Rush is no longer ‘just’ a NFL owner denied
Tonight, Rush is us. And we are him.
Tonight Rush became the metaphor for all of us… every man woman and child in this great nation of ours.
The enemy of this great nation, the enemy of you and me, Rush’s enemy… those on the left, inside and outside of this nation abhor success… and when faced with it will destroy it… by any and all means possible.
We all have our dreams in life… such as they might be. Rush dreamed of being an owner in the NFL.
Tonight the left proved that they will stop at nothing to end our dreams. Our dreams of success and happiness devastate their need to dominate and control you and me… and well everything and everyone.
Chrysler bondholders
GM dealers
Bankers and stockbrokers
Small business owners
Medical Doctors
Oppressed people wanting freedom around the world
The left can not and will not allow anyone to realize their dreams
Tonight a light went out… a dream died… it died from political correctness
Tonight we are under withering fire, we on the right those in the middle,
Tonight our values are under withering fire, those thoughts ideas and dreams that made this great nation are under withering fire
Will your light of your dreams be next?
Will my dreams be next?
First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.

This is a joke right?
realitybiased77 Thursday, October 15th at 8:07AM EDT (link)Please tell me this was posted in irony. I’ve never seen such a self-pitying bunch of nonsense on this scale in a while.
The NFL owners are hardly a bunch of leftists… I would be willing to guess that the overwhelming majority are conservatives. It has nothing to do with the left not allowing it. The NFL’s most prized identity is its brand. They are the number one professional sports league because they’ve managed that brand and created something broadly popular. Limbaugh does not fit in that mold.
Rush has made a career saying things that at best, could be considered divisive. And while I don’t agree with what he says, I agree he has the right to say it. But words have consequences, and if he can’t handle the fact that a broad swath of the country do not like what he says, maybe he should find a new line of work.
Actually, it's not a joke
Jack_Savage Thursday, October 15th at 8:19AM EDT (link)You bailout whore, death panel loving, racist jerk. I would also like to point out that you have been accused of child molestation, and we would like to get your response to that before you post further.
What you and your pseudo-intellectual ilk ought to be concerned about is the fact that an American cannot tell the truth without the left trying to silence him, or worse.
This isn’t about race, it certainly isn’t about racial reconciliation (I haven’t seen race relations this bad since the late 60’s). It is about silencing anyone who doesn’t agree with you. Not debating them- silencing them.
Who is going to stand up when they come for you, pal?
No, it IS a joke
hawkeye666 Thursday, October 15th at 3:46PM EDT (link)The fact that Rush Limbaugh is being compared to groups who were persecuted by their governments for being different, either religiously or ideologically, is farcical. First, there is no free speech/government issue here, as this relates to private organizations. There are no black helicopters circling over his studio. No one is going to “come for Rush”. Second, he is not being excluded due to political correctness or anything like that. The NFL doesn’t want him, as they don’t want the headaches that he will bring with his outspoken antics. This is a cold-blooded business-driven decision. Having Rush as an owner could cost them money, as they see it. How much would it really be? Who knows? But they don’t want to risk their position on top of the sports food-chain.
Also, I love who you try to paint anybody who doesn’t agree with you and your ilk with some broad brush, using multiple, unsubstantiated allegations. “bailout whore” “death panel loving” “racist”. Wow. You can tell all that just by him saying Rush got iced from the deal because he is an inflammatory personality? Then, you accuse him of child molestation? Very classy.
Lastly, how the hell is this going to “silence” Rush? That is the most crazy claim of all made on this topic. Yeah, Rush is so crushed he couldn’t own his own team of “Bloods” or “Crips” that he’s quitting radio.
Also, since you bring up “silencing” people, your little website here has a track record of automatically banning anyone who disagrees with the posters, regardless of how civil the discourse may be. Why don’t you raise that issue with the people who run this joint too?
G'bye

“Also, I love who you try to paint anybody who doesn’t agree with you and your ilk with some broad brush, using multiple, unsubstantiated allegations. (Lord I wish I knew how to bold those words to emphasize them - Jack) “bailout whore” “death panel loving” “racist”. Wow. You can tell all that just by him saying Rush got iced from the deal because he is an inflammatory personality? Then, you accuse him of child molestation? Very classy.”
Think real hard. Grit your teeth. Put your smarty-brain cap on. Read what you wrote. Then try to wriggle out of the trap into which you just stepped.
Next:
“The fact that Rush Limbaugh is being compared to groups who were persecuted by their governments for being different, either religiously or ideologically, is farcical. ”
Really? So Rush and Fox News, for example, are just hunky-dory with the current administration? No one makes any slanderous statements about them or devotes taxpayer funded time and money to smear them on the White House website? Interesting…and a complete crock.
“Lastly, how the hell is this going to “silence” Rush? ”
Thankfully, it won’t, but it sure isn’t for lack of trying is it, Mr. Fairness Doctrine?
Enjoy your permanent vacation.

badnewzbearz Thursday, October 15th at 6:14PM EDT (link)The incident with Rush is just one in a long list of incidents that expose the playbook of you Democrats and this Obama regime.
- Throughout the month of August, average American citizens, concerned about the direction of this country and this out-of-control government, attended town hall meetings because they wanted their voices heard. We were smeared, by top Democrats in Congress and the media as an angry mob, evil mongers, Nazis, KKK members, potential domestic terrorists and yes, racists.
- Obama has appointed a guy, Mark Lloyd, as FCC Diversity Czar. Lloyd has applauded Hugo Chavez’s success in nationalizing the media, shutting down radio stations, and shutting down the last independent TV station. Lloyd has publicly discussed his plan to go after conservative talk radio using diversity and localization rules. Would you consider THAT a threat to the First Amendment?
- Recently the private insurance industry commissioned PriceWaterhouse to review the sickening Baucus bill that is in the Senate. The result: that the Baucus bill was paid for by cutting 400 billion from Medicare and by imposing 500 billion in new taxes on the private sector - taxes that will passed onto consumers to the tune of about $1,400 per year. Two days after that, Chuck Schumer and other Democrats proposed legislation to remove an anti-trust exemption from the private insurance industry that has been in place since 1945. This is conduct Americans have never seen before. For speaking out - even though the CBO confirmed the report - Congress is proposing legislation to punish them.
As soon as it became public that Rush was involved in this bid, the left went nuts and attacked him with the most vicious lies and smears I’ve ever seen - that anybody has ever seen. And why was Rush attacked? Because he is currently the most prominent conservative voice in this country.
Never has it been so obvious that this Obama regime - this radical leftist movement that has hijacked the Democrat party - is at war with US. But we won’t be silenced, we won’t back down. We are on the ascendancy and we intend to stand and fight for the future of this country!

Michael Vick - convicted dog muderer
Ray Lewis - fled the scene of a murder and may have been involved
Bryan Boyd - drafted by Dick Vermeil after beating a kid so bad in college he was read his last rights.
Lawrence Phillips - women beater.
Mark Chmura - triued but acquitted of sexual enticement for having sex with his kid’s babysitter - later admitted to “inappropriate” behavior.
Ray Carruth - had his girlfriend and unborn child murdered so he would not have to pay that pesky child support.
Donte’ Stallworth - sentenced to one month in jail for DUI after killing a pedestrian. I suppose they will justify him playing again so he can pay the “judgement”.
And on and on. The Commissioner made noise about cracking down on the gangsta element when he first came in. Maybe he should have focused on the riff raff running around murdering free speech rights with out of context or fabricated quotes then puffed up by:
Al Sharpton - attempted to have innocent men imprisoned for a false rape allegation and is under investigation for tax fraud. Also never paid agreed to judgement of admitted liable.
Warren Moon who:
On July 18, 1995, Warren reportedly had a violent confrontation with his wife Felicia. She told detectives that he had slapped her, choked her, and chased her when she fled in a car. In a July 21 press conference, Warren apologized for a “tremendous mistake” and said he would seek counseling. Despite Felicia’s refusal to press charges, Warren was arrested for misdemeanor assault and went to trial in February 1996; he was acquitted.[17]
On April 6, 2007, Moon was arrested for suspicion of DUI after being stopped for speeding in Kirkland, a suburb of Seattle. The charges were later reduced to first-degree negligent driving after Moon registered breath-alcohol levels of 0.068 and 0.067 at the police station in the hours following his arrest. Moon pleaded guilty to the negligent driving charge and was sentenced to 40 hours of community service, a $350 fine and drug and alcohol awareness classes.[18]
On December 28, 2007, Moon was again arrested for suspicion of DUI after refusing to take a field sobriety test and breathalyzer test while being stopped for expired tags in the Seattle suburb of Medina. He was also initially arrested for driving with a suspended license, but this was later dropped and attributed to incorrect data in the Washington State Department of Licensing’s records.[19] Moon pled not guilty to the DUI charges at a February 5, 2008 arraignment.[20]

What can we do that will sting?
smagar Thursday, October 15th at 9:54AM EDT (link)What can we do that will make the NFL stand up and take notice?
If we have season tickets, most of us won’t cancel them. And, for those who do, there are waiting lists with thousands of people ready to buy them.
If we don’t go to the games, the NFL can (1) just ignore it or (2) blame it on the poor performance of many of the teams.
Here are some thoughts:
1) Boycott NFL merchandise. (Although, I’m not sure how you’d do it in a way that the NFL will notice. Perhaps, fans could go into concessions at the games and tell the staff that they WON’T be buying a pennant/hat/mutantly-oversized brightly-colored-hand-glove-with-index-finger-extended out of sympathy for Rush).
2) Cancel your NFL Sunday Ticket or subscription to NFL. com or the NFL Live cable channel?

The race-baiting sports media won’t want to talk about it.
The Rush-hating MSM won’t want to talk about it.
So, unless we push it and keep it alive, it will die.

LibertarianHawk Thursday, October 15th at 1:52PM EDT (link)….is the whole “Rush is racist” part.
That’s entirely inexcusable — and, if I were Limbaugh, I’d be in constant contact with my lawyer about his options on defamation.
What’s more, it would be nice to see some black friends of Limbaugh’s (James Golden, Ken Hutcherson, Lynn Swann, etal) issue public statements on his behalf.
As for the NFL aspect of it, I’ll just reiterate what I said below in that I can sympathize with the NFL not wanting to get caught up in a political whirlwind.

Why play into the hands of the race baiters?
Read Chesterton in New Improved Jersey Thursday, October 15th at 2:23PM EDT (link)Holding up black friends and associates as a defense against a phony, slanderous racism charge plays into a favorite trap of race baiters, i.e. “Some of my best friends are black.” No thanks. Such a response would put the lie to anyone who truly judges people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.

I'm just pointing out
aesthete Thursday, October 15th at 11:23PM EDT (link)that, from an evidential standpoint, that alone seems to validate Rush’s case. After all, a racist would hardly put any who belong to the targeted race on such a high pedestal. To that extent, I would say that it’s less “some of my best friends are black” (and unverifiable and weak defense) and more “I have highly intelligent commentators on my show who just happen to be black, as opposed to black people who just happen to be intelligent, as the left would have me do”. I could give a rip whether or not Rush is “racist” according to the wingnuts (he was a fascist before, so I suppose racist is a step up); it was more of an intellectual abstraction/sidenote than anything else (also, a plug for two of my favorite columnists and commentators). But you are right; character of content is the sole characteristic on which a man should be judged, and it is fundamentally wrong to do otherwise with Rush simply because of the left’s fetishistic desire to destroy conservative voices (disclaimer: not really a Rush fan, but rather, a “fan” of defending those who are wrongfully slandered

Achance Thursday, October 15th at 10:46AM EDT (link)Fortunately, the closest thing to a home team for me is the Seattle Seahawks and they are very easy to either hate or ignore. The early game starts at 9 AM here, so sleeping is an option, or even church. The NASCAR race usually starts at 9 AM as well and NASCAR racing is a legitmate competitive sport with people driving the cars that you’d willingly associate with. Not a tattoo in sight and no criminal records to be seen either; they even say yessir, yes mam, and thank you. They even start every race with a televised invocation and the National Anthem. Only in the races outside The South does the announcer have to remind people to stand and remove their hat during the invocation and National Anthem. Until Comrade Obama figures it out, they even have a pretty cool flyover by military aircraft at every race.
The first half of the season is covered by FOX, the rest by TNN, NBC, and ABC. If you’d like a contrast in understanding of demographics look at the sponsor packages and the style of advertising during the FOX half of the season and compare it to the sponsor packages and style of advertising in the second half. Just that will tell you all you need to know about the biases of the media. NBC may serve up Hank Jr. and Faith Hill for Sunday Night Football, but they’re not comfortable with it and that certainly isn’t their natural constituency.
I sometimes use Monday Night Footbal as an excuse to get out of the house but other than that, just like Pro Basketball, the only thing that could get me to watch it and patronize most of its sponsors would be if the only rule was “no autopsy, no foul” and they allowed the players to use weapons. Then it might be interesting.
Only real problem is that the NASCAR season ends in November and doesn’t begin again until February, but my wife has little trouble finding something for me to do and, anyway, that’s a good time of year to be in Mexico.

There Is No Crisis
Thing is...
LibertarianHawk Thursday, October 15th at 1:45PM EDT (link)…I can sympathize with the NFL not wanting Limbaugh among its college of franchise owners. While I like Limbaugh myself, I recognize that a whole lot of people not only dislike him, but passionately despise him.
Well, from the NFL’s perspective, I can see where they might fear that having him associated with the league might be off-putting to a lot of those fans. And their money is just as green as anybody else’s.
Now, that would be immature on those peoples’ parts. I can’t imagine I’d think any differently of the NFL if somebody I passionately despised was one of the team owners. But that’s just me. Whether other football fans would be so childish is outside of the NFL’s control.
And let’s keep in mind that the NFL and its teams have gobs of corporate sponsors to keep happy, too. Remember when Augusta National GC had to self-fund their own broadcast one year because of the whole feminist controversy?
So it didn’t surprise me that an owner like Jim Irsay would say that he would vote against a bidding group that included Limbaugh. That’s not necessarily a shot at Rush or conservatism — it’s a matter of protecting an inclusive brand and keeping the divisiveness of our politics today out of it.
Then why is Olbermann anchoring halftime on Sunday Nights?
Jack_Savage Thursday, October 15th at 1:53PM EDT (link)Shouldn’t that also be considered?
Does the NFL have anything to say about that?
LibertarianHawk Thursday, October 15th at 2:21PM EDT (link)I imagine if they raised a big enough stink, they could probably pressure NBC to drop Olbermann from their broadcasts. But I’m not sure their contracts allow the league to expressly determine who can or can’t be featured on their telecasts.
Keep in mind that Limbaugh did have a brief stint on an NFL broadcast…and it didn’t end pleasantly for either him, or ESPN, or the league.
Now, I wasn’t at all offended by his McNabb comment. I understood it and thought it had merit. But the comment certainly gave his critics — who, as he says, want to prevent the “mainstreaming” of prominent conservatives — the rope to hang him with.
I imagine, if the conservative movement wanted to wage a campaign to have Keith Olbermann removed from NBC’s football broadcasts, we could probably do it using the same playbook.
But why would we want to do that? And to what ultimate end? Just to have the satisfaction of saying “Two can play at that game”?
IMO, there are better ways for us to use our time and energy.
You answered your own question
Jack_Savage Thursday, October 15th at 2:39PM EDT (link)“Does the NFL have anything to say about that?”
“Keep in mind that Limbaugh did have a brief stint on an NFL broadcast…and it didn’t end pleasantly for either him, or ESPN, or the league.”
Not really.
LibertarianHawk Thursday, October 15th at 6:03PM EDT (link)ESPN both hired and fired Limbaugh, not the NFL. But I seriously doubt that the NFL was sanguine about the whole thing behind closed doors.
I don’t know if the league had to sign off on his being hired as a commentator in the first place. It’s entirely possible they did.
But the point I was making was that, in his one semi-official stint with the NFL (which, BTW, materialized despite some protests against it), both ESPN and the NFL ended up with a black eye.
I’m sure the league loves the right kind of controversy. But I’m just as sure that they despise the wrong kind. And that was the wrong kind.
Also, people comparing him to Michael Vick or Ray Lewis or others who have been in criminal trouble can’t be serious. The NFL’s players are crucial elements of their product — star players aren’t nearly as “expendable” as an announcer or even a potential team owner.
And to your next point
Jack_Savage Thursday, October 15th at 2:43PM EDT (link)“I imagine, if the conservative movement wanted to wage a campaign to have Keith Olbermann removed from NBC’s football broadcasts, we could probably do it using the same playbook.”
Same playbook? By fabricating quotes, smearing and lying? No, we could do it with just a few videos of Olbermann’s delusional rants, without any commentary whatsoever.
“But why would we want to do that? And to what ultimate end? Just to have the satisfaction of saying “Two can play at that game”?”
No. It would be to remove a foul merchant of smear and hate from network TV now that we understand the NFL’s attitude.
I am trying to understand why you feel the need to defend Olbermann.
Olbermann
pirate55 Thursday, October 15th at 5:16PM EDT (link)I would be greatly disappointed if NBC took Olbermann off on Sunday nights. It is heartwarming to see his arrogance transcends politics. I find him to be most pitiful, yet amusing.
I'm not defending him.
LibertarianHawk Thursday, October 15th at 6:11PM EDT (link)I think Keith Olbermann is a smarmy, execrable twit. And I’m not alone in thinking that….which both NBC and the NFL are, I’m sure, keenly aware of — just as ESPN and the NFL were aware that many thought that about Limbaugh when he was hired.
But Olbermann hasn’t given the network or league sufficient reason to oust him on their broadcasts. Limbaugh, unfortunately, did. He just should’ve known better than to use that venue to discuss the lightning-rod issue of race….particularly when so many of his critics were just waiting for him to say something that they could use against him.
All I’m saying is that these lynch mob campaigns to get people forced off the air because we don’t like their politics need to end. I want no part of them….because, to me, they’re a complete waste of time and energy.
If the left wants to keep getting all fired up about them, let ‘em.
I respectfully disagree
Jack_Savage Thursday, October 15th at 6:53PM EDT (link)The NFL gives Olbermann credibility as something he is not, which is a person who is close to being sane. Olbermann has, in his duties as MSNBC ’s resident lunatic, given the NFL more than enough reason to oust him.
To go to your point
“But Olbermann hasn’t given the network or league sufficient reason to oust him on their broadcasts”
… let’s say he made a blatantly racist comment on MSNBC, far away from his NFL microphone - what do you think would happen? Exactly.
I believe he is highly offensive and foul, and has no business being propped up by the NFL. It is not a waste of time and energy, it is a battle that needs to be fought and won.
Feel Sorry for the NFL
pirate55 Thursday, October 15th at 5:06PM EDT (link)I feel badly for an organization so popular with the American people that it embraces the concept a convicted felon, yes felon deserves to be a millionaire and receive that all important “second chance” his animal victims never received. I feel badly for a commissioner who can decide you must sit out the entire year for your conviction in a vehicle death. That sure puts the foot down and says it will not be tolerated. I feel sorry for owners who move their franchises out oh so quietly and then render judgements of conservatives such as Rush Limbaugh. If one is seeking out racism in conservatism it only shows how undereducated this society truly is. Racism is being practiced here but not by Mr. Limbaugh.

DontBanMeBro Thursday, October 15th at 5:52PM EDT (link)You know that sign on the door of your favorite local bar/restaurant: ‘We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone’? Turns out the NFL owners have a similar sign on their clubhouse. It’s that simple. This is not a case of conservatives being run out of town for being conservative. The NFL wants to avoid controversy, and in this case, controversial owners. That’s probably one of the reasons Vince McMahon decided to start his own league. Controversy is his style. Rush probably has the money to do his own thing too. This country is full of examples of people who were rejected or denied entry to this or that but kept their dignity and eventually won out. Apple kicked out Steve Jobs in the 80s and now who’s laughing?
The NFL owners don’t want Rush. This does not make him a martyr or make them liberal tools. Time to lower the volume on this mess. It’s slightly embarrassing and reminiscent of the famous ‘victim card’ tactic the Left is so fond of.
banhimbro, we have such fine examples of avoiding controversy...
DONTREADONME Thursday, October 15th at 7:17PM EDT (link)like Michael Vick, Ray Lewis, and how many others do I need to name? You missed the point Rush was squashed because of slander and libel, not anything he actually did do. Yes, the NFL can have their little club and decide who’s in and who’s out, but to claim this was because of tangible evidence of a Controversy is astonishing and ludicrous.
I must say your perceived insight is myopic. Keep up ridiculous arguments like these and you will find me tailing you with a counter argument unless you feel the dailykos is more you style? Besides, you should have known better than to post a stupid comment like this only to achieve the repercussion of me dropping by to slam you against the wall and tell you you’re opinion is assinine. yes you heard me.
