My voting experience

Adventures in the electoral process

I have a sentimental attachment to actually going to the polls on election day. If you are similarly attached, you have stories too. Today, my experience was…well, unique.

First, another of my other quirks is an overwhelming desire to be the first voter to cast my ballot in my precinct on election morning. To that end, I usually show up very early. This morning I was at the polls by 6:10, and at the front of the line by 6:15. I was standing there, right by the door when a lady (a nice lady I might add) was sent out of the door where I was standing, and took up a position at the head of the line….this did not fit with my plan…and since I really cannot be intentionally rude to anyone (and to be fair, she was sent there, and did not shoulder her way into the spot), I did not raise a fuss.

Playing with a lead

There is a way to make sure the victory is the result in November

The days until the election are counting down, and now is the time for the McCain campaign to take a moment to refocus and prepare for the stretch run. First and foremost, discipline, not caution, has got to become the watchword. They need to hammer, on a daily basis, the policies that they intend to implement if they take office in January. They need to make clear that those policies would have been clearly articulated earlier had Barack Obama honored his earlier pledge to engage in townhall style meetings.

Less energy needs to be spent worrying about trifling issues, and zero time needs to be spent on misguided efforts like trying to categorizing things as sexist. (the lipstick comment would have been name-calling, not sexism, if it was intentional, which it really did not seem to be) Let the media, and especially the blogosphere take on issues of this nature.

The next commercial has already been written, and if it isn’t already in the can, and ready to run, somebody is not doing their job….it is simple…run the video of Joe Biden

“Make no mistake about this,” Biden responded. “Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Let’s get that straight. She’s a truly close personal friend, she is qualified to be president of the United States of America, she’s easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America, and quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me. But she’s first rate, I mean that sincerely, she’s first rate, so let’s get that straight.”

…a moment of pause, and the then… “He has doubts about the decision…. Do you?”

Make Barack Obama engage in policy discussions. Stop with tautologies. It is time for specifics. Barack Obama cannot seriously compete if the issues become the focus at this point, which will force him into a very uncomfortable position.

He cannot go more to the left at this point without exposing his moderate flank, and if he moves one step to the right, the hard left will simply choose to sit this one out.

Discipline will mean victory in November….

If a Republican said this

He did not just say that..

can you imagine the storm that would follow

The video

Amazing. Right now a thread is on DKos complaining about Carter not be included in the speaking roster…maybe they knew this type of thing was a possibility.

For the last 8 years we have been subjected to the meme that Republicans in general, and GWB in particular, were poorly spoken, intellectually vapid creatures barely capable of walking upright, and that when the Democrats retook the government, as they were clearly intended to do, clear spoken, well articulated statements would return to D.C. The Obama campaign and their supporters have spent an awful lot of time explaining misstatements and gaffes…this is just another example.

Madam Speaker, is that a good idea

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has once again decided that it was her time to attack the President, this time stating

“God bless him, bless his heart, president of the United States — a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject,” Pelosi told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer in an exclusive interview.

How about a little light on that statement….
