Fini, no mas, goodbye.
On September 18th I wrote the following: We have seven weeks to push back against evil and prolong our republic’s existence a while longer. Seven weeks. Seven weeks from tonight we will know. Will America once more choose to sidestep disaster and move back toward sanity and Godliness, or will it continue in a downward spiral to destruction? I also wrote: As I watch the | Read More »
If Romney Wins & If Romney Loses
WARNING: The following looks at various possible scenarios but these are NOT predictions. This past Sunday I finished reading Sean Trende’s book The Lost Majority. Its a good read though poorly edited and at some point I may write a full review, but today I wanted to follow along on one of his points. Call it the History of the Road Not Taken. Life is | Read More »
Discussion of Polls and an Election Prediction
This has been a gut wrenching cycle. I’ve followed presidential elections since I was old enough to understand what they were and this one has been painful squared. It was made all the more agonizing because its clear now that in order to win Republicans have to overcome a sizable handicap. Any mistake made by a Republican leads the broadcast networks evening news, while the | Read More »
“Heckuva job, Barry”
According to the Democrats and their eager enablers in the media, George W. Bush and his administration were both incompetent and indifferent when the after affects of hurricane Katrina flooded New Orleans in 2005. The fact that most of the suffering occurred because of the actions or lack of action of, A) Corrupt local officials B) Incompetent local officials including the Mayor and the Governor | Read More »
Obama Is Going Down
Clever and unrelenting push-back against the Obamedia pretense that Obama is cool while Romney is a bumbling square, is the major reason that line of attack is not working this cycle. It all started with Clint Eastwood and the Empty Chair. Even a dim-bulb such as David Letterman has figured out that the emperor may have a wardrobe malfunction. Its amusing to watch the Obama | Read More »
Romney at 50% & up 2 in Ohio
This will leave a mark. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Ohio Voters shows Romney with 50% support to President Obama’s 48%. One percent (1%) likes some other candidate, while another one percent (1%) remains undecided. I think the only thing that can save the President now is if the entire country develops Obamnesia. Election day can’t get here fast enough.
The October surprise is Sandy.
I’m not seeing much discussion on how Hurricane Sandy will effect the election but effect it she almost certainly will. The maximum damage will be inflicted from early Monday through early Wednesday. However a storm of this strength doesn’t just move on and immediately everybody gets back to normal. Bad stuff keeps happening in a ripple effect that can go on for several days. Trees | Read More »
Bill joins Hillary under the bus & Mark Warner on “Virginia’s Military Might”
In a lengthy piece in the NY Times Matt Bai today shoved Bill Clinton toward the front axle of Bus Obama. According to Bai, the Obama Campaign altered their strategy for taking on Mitt Romney. You may recall that last spring, just after Mr. Romney locked up the Republican nomination, Mr. Obama’s team abruptly switched its strategy for how to define him. Up to then, | Read More »
Romney Seals The Deal
Tonight Mitt Romney did what I hoped he would by adopting a big picture strategy and staying away from tactical cheap shots. As important as foreign policy is, it will not decide the 2012 election. However if Romney had allowed himself to be goaded into bellicosity it could have derailed the momentum that he has enjoyed for three weeks. Americans are war weary and any | Read More »
Somewhere between Gallup and Nate Silver.
The title tells you where I think this race is 18 days from election day. Razor close and dependent on GOTV. Over the past several days Gallup has moved out to a lonely spot among the national polls showing Mitt Romney up by 7 yesterday and by 6 today. While Gallup now shows Romney up 51-45 in its seven day tracker, Rasmussen shows a dead | Read More »
Obama’s Libya Lie will be the lasting impression from this debate.
Clearly President Obama did much better tonight than in Debate #1, but then the bar was rather low. Mitt Romney also did well though he missed a few opportunities and inexplicably kept asking Obama questions instead of just destroying the President’s house of cards. On balance I would say it was a draw with perhaps a short term advantage for Obama. However, the huge mistake | Read More »
How Paul Ryan won the VP Debate
It is now obvious beyond serious challenge that Paul Ryan exited the debate against Joe “Giggles” Biden as the clear winner. What have been the dominant themes of post-debate coverage? 1. Biden’s oafish behavior. Q: Does this help Barack Obama win re-election? A: No. 2. Polls show a split decision and general opinion is that it was a draw. Q: Does this help Barack Obama | Read More »
A perfect duo for the Stupid Party
If there was any doubt left, last night’s “debate” washed it away. Though frustrated Republicans often lament the GOP’s stupidity, the Democrat Party is in fact the Stupid Party. Barack Obama and Joe Biden may well comprise the most incapable team to ever hold their positions. Obama did lousy in his debate because: A) He has a lousy record. B) He has no plan for | Read More »
Does Obama Want To Lose?
Some of the comments and behavior of him and his campaign seem bizarre unless he really does want to lose. First of course was his somnolent performance in Denver a week ago. He has followed that up with a Big Bird strategy coupled with an Excuse Du Jour: Jim Lehrer is a putz, Romney lied, Romney changed his mind on something, the air was thin, | Read More »
State of the Race
The RCP average as I write has Mitt Romney up by half a point. This is a huge improvement over a week ago but it should not be cause for unbridled excitement. This is a race that will be decided by turnout. With just under four weeks to go anything could still happen. If I were to compare this to a football game I’d say | Read More »
UPDATED: Romney Up 4 in New Pew Poll….Polling Picture to Start the Week
Pew Research has released its latest poll conducted over the 4th through the 7th and they have Romney over Obama 49 -45. Needless to say I know, but that is a horrible poll for Obama. Pew gives three different partisan ID (PID) numbers. The “General Public” PID is 27R 31D 36I. The “Registered Voter” PID is 33R 32D 31I. The “Likely Voter” PID is 36R | Read More »
Great News From Rasmussen
As predicted here (toot toot) today’s numbers from Rasmussen show Romney up 49-47. This is actually a little faster and more dramatic than I expected them to move. Today’s tracking poll numbers would be made up of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday so tomorrow’s poll will be the first entirely post-debate poll and may move another point toward Romney. Barring a major backlash from Big Bird | Read More »
Last night’s debate and a prediction on where the polls will go.
Mitt Romney turned in what I believe is the best performance ever in presidential debates. He was crisp, bold, commanding, knowledgeable, friendly, respectful, firm, and relentless. The reaction from the media was unprecedented in my experience. Romney’s dominance of Barack Obama was so thorough and comprehensive that in the ensuing confusion Obama sycophants lost all control and committed widespread truth in their commentary. On both | Read More »
The new Obama video unearthed by Daily Caller
Its hard to say what’s more stomach churning about this. His praise for Jeremiah Wright. His race-baiting on New Orleans. The faux southern black dialect. Or the fact that this clown was actually elected. Or the fact that he may be re-elected. All of the above are nauseating. http://dailycaller.com/2012/10/02/obama-speech-jeremiah-wright-new-orleans Imagine if you can the ridicule Mitt Romney would be subject to if he went into | Read More »
Finally! A positive NBC interview with Mitt Romney.
OK so its from ten years ago but better early than never. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Yvp8lQpxDU Its interesting to contrast how he was treated then and now.
Is 2012 Different ?
Over the course of my political lifetime most presidential races ended up going the way you would expect them to. In 1980 Carter was awful, the economy was awful, hostages in Iran, killer rabbits in Georgia. It was no contest really. Once people were reassured that Ronald Reagan wouldn’t launch a nuclear strike at 12:01 pm January 20, the choice made itself. In 1984 the | Read More »
Politico Article: Please let this be a clever plant by our side.
There is an article at Politico this evening that purports to preview Mitt Romney’s “hard-line strategy” for the first debate. According to Politico the secret plan is being telegraphed by Romney himself and other important Republicans. The plan is for Romney to “fact check” Obama even though Karl Rove doesn’t like that terminology. I think that approach would be disastrous for Romney. Although he is | Read More »
Are the Polls Skewed?
I don’t know if the polls are skewed or not but they certainly are in disagreement with each other. Below are some facts and figures with lots of links so you can make up your own mind. Thanks to polls, Harry Truman will always be the patron saint of political underdogs, yet by and large most polls come reasonably close to being accurate. However, sometimes | Read More »
How Carter beat Reagan
There is a superb piece by Jeffrey Lord at The American Spectator today. Entitled How Carter Beat Reagan it details the arrogant mendacity of the liberal press with a special focus on the New York Times in 1980. Throughout that campaign the NYT attempted to help Jimmy Carter by slanting its coverage of the polls in what it deemed the swing states of that era. | Read More »
Why is Peggy Noonan being such a Jerk?
Why are high profile “conservatives” such as Noonan and Bill Krystal behaving like clueless punks? Its bad enough that the media is in the tank for Obama and reacting like lunatics every time Mitt Romney opens his mouth. Why are these “conservatives” fueling the fire? Noonan apparently refereed to the Romney Campaign as a “rolling calamity”. Why? What has been so bad about the campaign? | Read More »
