Christian (Orthodox Inquirer), conservative grad student attending Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. When I am not in college, I reside in Douglasville, GA.
I first got interested in politics during the 2000 election, but my real political awakening came on 9/11. I may have been young at the time, but I couldn't avoid becoming interested in how my nation conducts itself after that.
In my spare time, when I'm not dealing with schoolwork or following politics, I enjoy reading, photography, travelling, studying urbanity and architecture, video games, British comedy, and anime. Also, I love sports, specifically football (Go Atlanta Falcons!).

SC-01 Special Election Results Thread; UPDATE: Sanford Wins
By: Jake (Diary) | May 7th at 07:32 PM |
UPDATE: As we all thought, I’m sure, the district has been called for Mark Sanford. Congratulations, governor! [UPDATE- Moe Lane] Now that the election is over, it is of course necessary to commemorate the way that the DCCC and Democrats have spent their resources here – to the best benefit of the Republican party. Two million all told, was it? Well, I guess that kind | Read More »

No, This Isn’t an April Fool’s Joke…
By: Jake (Diary) | April 1st at 03:00 PM |
I have to admit: I am a little skeptical of some major news stories on April 1st. After all, there’s always the chance that it could be an April Fool’s joke, like this story from April 1st of last year that ran on the BBC announcing that the world had exploded. So, it was with this in mind that I did something of a double | Read More »
The Sequester Gift Bag
By: Jake (Diary) | March 1st at 12:00 PM |
As you all are probably aware, the Oscars were this past weekend, and as usual, the gift bag was huge. It was at a five year low $47,803, mind you, but by the standards of us poors, it was gigantic. So that got me thinking, what kind of gift bag would our beloved Congressmen and Senators get from President Obama for putting up with this | Read More »
Douglas County’s GOP Blocks GA Black Republican Chair from being a County Delegate
By: Jake (Diary) | February 11th at 08:30 AM |
It’s not often I get to write about happenings in my old neck of the woods, but that’s a fact of life when you were born and raised in a relatively sleepy suburban county of metro Atlanta. Still, don’t let the “sleepy” bit fool you; once you peel back that layer, you find the same kinds of political gamesmanship and good ol’ boy network shenanigans | Read More »
Super Bowl Open Thread
By: Jake (Diary) | February 3rd at 03:40 PM |
Yes, folks, it’s Super Bowl Sunday. It’s the game NFL fans have been waiting for all year (assuming you are a Ravens or 49ers fan). So, consider this an open thread for those of you stopping by RedState today, or alternately, talk about the Puppy Bowl over at Animal Planet (or whatever else you’re doing instead of watching the Big Game). CBS Sports has coverage here. | Read More »
What Did Margaret Sanger Think about Abortion?
By: Jake (Diary) | January 23rd at 02:30 PM |
Yesterday, January 22nd, 2013, is the anniversary of a date that should live in infamy. It was the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion throughout the United States. At the forefront of the pro-abortion movement stands Planned Parenthood. Margaret Sanger, the organization’s founder, has a reputation as both a racist and eugenicist, but her words on abortion might surprise people. | Read More »
The Things I am Thankful for
By: Jake (Diary) | November 22nd at 11:00 AM |
As I count my blessings this Thanksgiving, these are the top ten things I am especially thankful for: God and Faith: The One who should come before all others. I am thankful for a merciful, loving, and just God, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. As part of this, I’m also thankful for finding a spiritual home in the Eastern Orthodox church. It’s | Read More »
Success We Can Learn From: Pete Sessions at the NRCC
By: Jake (Diary) | November 12th at 09:00 AM |
Amongst the wreckage of last Tuesday’s elections, we do have one Republican leader who has managed to emerge with his reputation as a winner intact: Representative Pete Sessions (TX) of the Republican National Congressional Committee. Politico has an article up detailing his methods, and I think there’s something Republicans from the top down could learn from him. First of all, we should note how he | Read More »
Why Pessimism over the Romney Campaign might have been Justified
By: Jake (Diary) | November 9th at 12:11 PM |
From a friend among us who wishes to remain anonymous, we have this message to think about: So. I tried to stay as quiet as possible during the campaign because it seemed highly likely to me that my pessimism over the Romney candidacy stemmed from personal sour grapes over the primary–and I certainly didn’t want to dampen the efforts of those who really believed Obama | Read More »
[UPDATE: Nope, he's still for Obama.] Former Democratic VA Governor Doug Wilder Endorses Romney in everything but Name
By: Jake (Diary) | November 5th at 03:55 PM |
UPDATE: Well, apparently, he went on Neil Cavuto’s show and announced he’s still voting for Obama. While that is depressing, this is still the most tepid endorsement of the President I’ve seen in a while. For most of the last few months, former Democratic Virginia Governor Douglas Wilder, the first black governor elected anywhere in the United States since the end of Reconstruction, has been | Read More »
DWS Destroyed by…Glenn Greenwald
By: Jake (Diary) | October 22nd at 08:00 AM |
The old adage is that a broken clock is right twice a day. Apparently, it’s Glenn Greenwald’s time. Writing for the UK’s Guardian (the same paper that hired, and then fired, RedState Great Old One and Co-Founder Joshua Trevino, he takes Debbie Wasserman-Schultz to task for her complete ignorance of Obama’s “Kill List” that she displayed after this last debate. Greenwald writes:
Candy Crowley Admits Romney was Right on Libya
By: Jake (Diary) | October 17th at 12:08 AM |
One of the most talked about moments in tonight’s debate was when Candy Crowley “fact checked” Mitt Romney on Libya. Make no mistake, this was an attempt to cover for President Obama, who has been bleeding on the issue all week. However, when confronted about it after the debate, she started to backtrack. Of course, I’m with RedState founder Joshua Treviño: PROTIP: Correct yourself onscreen, | Read More »
RedState Roundtable: The First Debate
By: Jake (Diary) | October 8th at 11:00 AM |
Longtime RedStaters might remember the old Roundtables we used to do (although in fairness, that was long before my time on the Front Page). For a while now, we’ve been trying to restart them. This election gives us a perfect opportunity, so we decided to do a Roundtable on the first debate and where we go from here. This covers our discussions before, during, and | Read More »
Some Syrian Chemical Weapons Have Gone Missing
By: Jake (Diary) | September 29th at 07:00 AM |
As the world watches the goings-on in Syria, one of the most pressing fears is that its stock of chemical weapons might go missing and fall into the wrong hands. Today, we find that our nightmare is coming true. We heard in late August that Syrian rebels claimed to have taken over a base with chemical weapons. Now, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has admitted that some of those weapons have gone missing
