Jerry Nadler picks Occupy Wall Street over NY-08′s constituents.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 7th at 12:17 AM |
(H/T: JWF) Rep. Nadler is apparently quite upset that the cops cleared out the fetid, disease-ridden plague pit that had replaced what was once (and is now becoming again) a decent enough public-private urban park in lower Manhattan: he’s insisting – insisting! – that the Attorney General take time out from Holder’s current busy schedule* to investigate the cops for ‘misconduct.’ It would seem that | Read More »
Reviewing Obama’s sparsely-attended class warfare speech… oh, SUGAR.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 6th at 08:00 PM |
Said speech was in Osawatomie Texas no, wait, he meant Kansas, where President Barack Obama hopes to recreate a little electoral magic represented by Teddy Roosevelt’s speech in 1910… to wit, splitting the Republican vote and thus getting a Democrat elected. The speech itself is pretty mediocre, even by this President’s standards: but then, if you’re looking for deathless prose then you’re following the wrong | Read More »
Cloture vote today on gun-grabbing, pro-lifer-hating Caitlin Halligan.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 6th at 09:34 AM |
I got tipped this one by the Rick Perry campaign: surprised that I didn’t see this before. Halligan is up for a judicial appointment to the US Circuit Court of Appeals for DC, and she’s… well, read [for some reason, the link didn't work the first time]: Ms. Halligan’s confirmation has been vigorously opposed by the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and Committee | Read More »
Nancy Pelosi retreating from insinuations of new dirt on Newt Gingrich.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 5th at 09:00 PM |
For those who missed it: Last Friday Nancy Pelosi told Talking Points Memo that she had all sorts of investigative dirt available on current GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich. Specifically, “I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.” So… | Read More »
A PSA for the failed #OccupyDC barn-builders.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 4th at 09:45 PM |
Well… shed builders, at least. Seriously, that’s not even close to being a barn. Moving along: as the link above notes, some of the people ‘occupying’ DC tried to put up a wooden structure today… and, apparently, was not able to get the blessed thing even half-done before the cops finally decided to put this exercise in sustained disdain for property rights out of its | Read More »
Obama goes to Osawatomie, Kansas to ‘channel’…

…quick: which legendary figure from American history is Obama planning to ‘channel’ there?
Friday’s Fast & Furious Fallout: Fatal Falsehoods From Feds?
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 3rd at 09:05 PM |
To give a quick background: Operation Fast & Furious, of course, was an incredibly botched government program where federal law enforcement agencies handed over firearms willy-nilly to Mexican narco-terrorists and then lost track of the weapons… no, really, that’s what they did, and the next person who comes up with a legitimate and/or sane reason for them doing that will be the first. As you | Read More »
The Chaos and Old Night Friday Noon Open Thread.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 2nd at 12:00 PM |
This screenshot from the front page of Real Clear Politics pretty much sums up the GOP nomination process as we enter December: To wit: every pundit and commentator in America is pretty much making it up as they go along at this point. Personally, I think that it’s good: electing a President is a serious business, so we should take seriously. Besides, look on the | Read More »
Andy Stern. Scab for the Chinese.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | December 1st at 11:00 AM |
Before you ask: I was raised in a union household. I know precisely what that word means, and I am using it precisely as my late father the local union president would have used it if he had lived to read this Wall Street Journal article by former SEIU boss Andy Stern. Let me summarize said article: I, Andy Stern, am a cheap date* who | Read More »
Whither Occupy? (Probably not the ballot box.)
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | November 30th at 11:30 AM |
This New York magazine article on the Occupy movement is interesting, and that’s not a euphemism: author John Heilemann is not only aware that the supposedly leaderless movement has plenty of self-appointed (and I’d add, ‘imposed’) leaders to it, but he’s even willing to admit to it in writing. Heilemann also has some pretty good insights on the Occupy movement, and the Democratic establishment, and | Read More »
Scene from the Conflict Oil Wars: Austan Goolsbee v. the Naive Greens
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | November 29th at 05:30 PM |
Quick background: there’s a lot of oil in Canada. Quite a bit of it is tied up in the form of oil sands, which radical Greenies hate with the same passion that normal people reserve for ax murderers or child rapists. Despite this hatred, the Canadians have noticed that the price of oil makes oil sand development highly cost effective, which is why they were | Read More »
Pakistanis admit to firing first on NATO troops.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | November 29th at 10:45 AM |
Via Drudge comes the beginnings of clarity on this issue: it’s now being tacitly admitted by the Pakistan government that Saturday’s conflict was initiated by their own troops. Essentially, Afghan/American troops were raiding Taliban in Afghanistan when Pakistan troops fired on them (the Pakistan government maintains that their troops were attacking on what they thought were insurgents). NATO airstrikes were the result, which shot up | Read More »
Andre Bauer’s unfortunate endorsement of Newt Gingrich. [UPDATE]
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | November 28th at 05:00 PM |
[Please note the edit below: the implication in the CNN article was that Bauer's endorsement of Gingrich was welcomed by the campaign, but there's still wiggle room for Team Newt. I've emailed the Gingrich campaign to confirm. - Moe Lane] Team Newt announced today that they [CNN reported today that the Gingrich campaign] had picked up the endorsement of Andre Bauer, who is: a former | Read More »
The New Deal: 1932-2011.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | November 28th at 02:00 PM |
Such a quiet death rattle, all things considered: As a practical matter, the Obama campaign and, for the present, the Democratic Party, have laid to rest all consideration of reviving the coalition nurtured and cultivated by Franklin D. Roosevelt. The New Deal Coalition — which included unions, city machines, blue-collar workers, farmers, blacks, people on relief, and generally non-affluent progressive intellectuals — had the advantage | Read More »
The rapidly-decaying Pakistan situation.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | November 27th at 09:19 PM |
A quick review of the recent breakdown in Pakistani-American relations: Last Saturday a NATO airstrike reportedly killed 24 Pakistani troops located in military bases on Pakistani soil. The exact details of the situation are still unknown: the Pakistanis are claiming that the assault was completely unprovoked, while (admittedly anonymous) Afghan sources claim that NATO troops were returning fire. Either way, the population of Pakistan is | Read More »
