Looking Ahead – The New Senate Caucuses
By: Locke (Diary) | October 30th at 08:44 PM |
The new Senate will obviously be more conservative than the old. I began with the idea that, while the Republican (Rep) caucus would be more conservative, the Democrat (Dem) caucus would be more liberal. But I found I could not justify that idea. What are the likely changes and what does it mean for the ideology of the Senate? (Other Redstaters are far better qualified | Read More »

Meek You, Charlie!
By: Locke (Diary) | August 14th at 09:48 PM |
A Recent Mason-Dixon poll on the Florida Senate race reports: Rubio 38 Crist 33 Meek 18 Rubio +5 Crist 39 Rubio 38 Greene 12 Crist +1 D Primary Meek 40 Greene 26 Meek +14 So (probably, in effect) 6 voters out of every 100 will vote for Meek if they can, else Crist. Fortunately for conservatives, Republicans, Floridians, Americans, and the world – they will | Read More »

It Is Vital That Republicans Take The House
By: Locke (Diary) | August 6th at 04:23 PM |
The bigger and more conservative the majority the better. I am not a big fan of Boehner; I’d rather have Pence or Bachman or Ryan or no doubt others, but any R speaker would be a major step – a vital step – in stopping the destruction of the country. It is vital, but probably less so that we have a cloture-proof majority in the | Read More »

Defund the Left
By: Locke (Diary) | August 6th at 11:48 AM |
This is an outrage. From Taranto’s Best of the Web, 8-4-10 Meanwhile, Washington’s WRC-TV reports on how the local government in the District of Columbia is spending tax money: On Monday, District residents’ tax dollars went to pay Summer Youth Employment Program participants to attend a Council oversight session at which they lobbied for more funding for the program. </blockquote>[end blockquote, damnit] NOT ENDED
The Consent of the Governed
By: Locke (Diary) | July 17th at 04:11 PM |
Rasmussen – “The notion that governments derive their only just authority from the consent of the governed is a foundational principle of the American experiment. However, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 23% of voters nationwide believe the federal government today has the consent of the governed. Sixty-two percent (62%) say it does not, and 15% are not sure”. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/july_2010/23_say_u_s_government_has_the_consent_of_the_governed So | Read More »

A Danger to The Movement
By: Locke (Diary) | July 11th at 12:24 PM |
I agree with Moe Lane, http://www.redstate.com/moe_lane/2010/07/11/microcosm-of-the-conservativeliberal-2010-strategy/ and Ace of Spades, except that I see a longer term danger: that the Tea Party or Constitutional Conservative movement will achieve some of its objectives, reduction of the Democrat Party to (temporary) minority status, balanced budgets, prosperity, sane foreign policy, etc., and will become complacent. That there will not be the same fire. That the People will not | Read More »
Is West Virginia in Play?
By: Locke (Diary) | July 9th at 09:45 PM |
Rasmussen has Manchin leading Capito by 14% and Ireland by 39%. My admittedly ignorant opinion is that Manchin can be beaten by a strong fiscal conservative who can capitalize on the devastation Democrat policies have inflicted on the WV economy, but that would take a businessman or woman with a sound economics background rather than a politician. Someone who can shake up the state, not | Read More »

NRA – No Longer an Ally
By: Locke (Diary) | July 3rd at 12:27 PM |
It seems clear that the NRA no longer represents the interests or views of its members. Erick Erickson has done a great job exposing the NRA for its support of Reid – http://www.redstate.com/erick/2010/07/01/nra-now-leans-toward-endorsing-harry-reid/ But even if Reid had a perfect record on this one issue he would be an enemy. We cannot support one-issue organizations when what we face is a massive, insidious movement to | Read More »
Judicial Activism
By: Locke (Diary) | July 1st at 09:24 AM |
Yesterday I said: Judicial activism is the tendency, or willingness, or view that it is proper to depart from: A. Established judicial precedent, or B. The Constitution. …. http://www.redstate.com/hogan/2010/06/29/elena-kagan-admits-she-is-an-activist/ But a piece by Ann Coulter reminds me that there is another definition that the left pushes: ….Despite the herculean efforts of liberals to redefine “judicial activism” as “overturning laws,” the two ….acts are completely unrelated. | Read More »
