Restoring The Republic III – Curing The Sickness Known As Healthcare
Don’t get me wrong. I like O-Care about as much as I like getting a prostate exam. The bill is typical of unthinking, boilerplate socialism’s response to the negative externalities that result from market failure. We should therefore trash Obamacare, but let’s just make that the warm-up set. The real heavy lifting required to fix our healthcare system involves addressing the causes of a market failure so catastrophic that something as obviously stupid as Obamacare seemed like a palatable solution.
Karl Denninger explains why poor people often can’t afford health insurance. The care provided is so badly overpriced that health plans are paying out more vastly more than the goods and services provided can possibly be worth. He describes the price mark-up of a common chemotherapy drug below.

Restoring The Republic II – Social Security, Medicare and Soylent Green
…and society inscribe on its banners: From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs! Critique of the Gotha Program – Karl Marx It was 1875, and Germany was well on its way to breaking Marx’s wretched little heart by enacting just enough social welfare to pacify its proletariat and preventing idiots like Karl Marx himself from making any decisions about anything | Read More »
How The GOP Must Restore The Republic
Sometimes the first step in building a thing of beauty is to dynamite the ugly, dying strip mall that occupies the real estate you want to build upon. We, the American Conservative Movement can rebuild once the junk gets cleared away. We just have to be ready, and we just have to avoid bailing the Progressives out of their own state-fueled death spiral of non-sustainability.
Brett Stevens of Amerika.org shows us how our society currently fulfills Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity.
Currently, our society is chasing its own tail into the abyss. The books give us certain rules and facts, and we follow those; when that doesn’t work out, we redouble our efforts using the same rules and facts. Like robots, we cannot deviate from our programming because we’ve eliminated the people who can think outside the box.

Pigford, Blaxploitation, And Breitbart
If you ever live long enough, there will be a certain sad series of events that will happen to every man. It’s something far worse than having to hang up your favorite pair of rugby cleats and it’s nothing you can take a GNC testosterone pill to delude yourself about reversing. One of these days your parents will become so helpless that you will have to look after them in the same way they looked after you when you still wore diapers. My father had this happen to him and it got so bad that it nearly destroyed his marriage. He grew up in Surry County, VA. His mother stayed there and never willingly drove more than fifty miles away. She was simple, honest and totally unprepared to deal with senility, widow-hood and the dishonest sharks who will drive forth into the country to callously prey on the elderly widows who are losing it one day at a time.
Surry, and several rural, Southern counties like it have a large concentration of African-Americans who farm for a living. They are poorer, less well-educated and less politically savvy than people from urban areas or who grow up in wealthier homes. Members of this demographic still remember what Jim Crow Laws were from having actually lived under them. Thus, they were the ideal target for the Great American grievance industry. They were preyed upon by the Pigford Grievance Farmers. They were used by a detestable core of professional activists and litigators to steal money from the American taxpayer. These people took advantage of this group of farmers the same way disingenuous Insurance-peddlers used to take money away from my Dear, Old Grandmother. It was Blaxploitation worthy of a 1970’s Hollywood movie

Iraq’s Descent Back into Civil War Makes the Case for American Energy Independence
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
-George Santayana (HT: Wikiquote)
America now faces a typical conundrum that has plagued all of our recent Presidents from Dwight D. Eisenhower all the way forward to President Barack Obama. We depend upon the Middle East for much of the energy that provides our motive power. As a result of this debilitating dependence upon people who hate us and practice a system of ethics and morals totally alien to our own, we are increasingly compromised and forced into courses of action that do not benefit our national commonweal. If we produce enough of our own energy, while curbing our domestic consumption, we can break this cycle of self-sabotage. If we don’t break the cycle, every US President going forward will wage his own, pointless version of a Punic War in Western Asia. I describe the current state of play below.

Urban Apartheid In New Haven, CT
The New Haven, CT NAACP has looked at the statistical trends that they feel will drive the future of African-American prosperity in New Haven. What they have seen does not make them happy. In an effort to draw attention to this set of troubling tends; they regrettably entitled their recent report Urban Apartheid. This I find to be historically inaccurate and unjustly polemical in nature. I will lay out my reasons for saying so below.

Dishonest Environmental Scientists Have Pretty Much Killed Earth Day
It was a damp, rainy Saturday in the land of Global Warming and vapid, rentier capitalism. My little boy and I went to run in his Montessori School’s Annual Spring Zing 5K fundraiser for the school. When I picked up the swag-bag that included my race shirt and number, I found a green-colored water planet that encouraged us all to save the planet in honor of Earth Day. Then I remembered something: it was the first time all week I had heard jack about the !MANDATORY! and creepily ubiquitous Earth Day.
What has happened to America’s faddishly PC !MANDATORY! celebration? Our occasion for compulsory fun has gone from being like a nationwide company picnic you pretend to enjoy if you can’t squirm away from, to being an embarrassment to those who once lauded its !MANDATORY! civic virtues. Earth Day has collapsed under the irresistible weight of its own brave sierra.*
I personally decided that Earth Day had completed its predictable fridge-nuking operation about two winters ago thanks to George Monbiot. His column “That snow outside is what global warming looks like” did the trick.

Robert J. Samuelson Discusses Risk, Reality and America’s Future
Back when I worked as an Operational Tester for Sam’s Army, I was at Ft. Campbell working in my data shed. I took a break to talk to an LTC on my test team. I was talking to him about things he saw over in Iraq.* It stunned the man that Iraqis cared so little about personal safety. They rode around in flatbed trucks with no headgear or seatbelts. They routinely worked in 100 degree + weather with no shirt, no canteens and probably no suntan lotion. He just couldn’t reconcile this with the safety-first risk-averse mentality of the successful Army Staff Officer. These people actually allowed Negative Chance Deviations.**
The soldier I bantered with while my data forms came in from the test range was a great American. He just didn’t realize something that we all seem to be learning now to our demise. Having the resources, time and knowledge to take the risk out of literally everything is a luxury. It is a luxury that we increasingly no longer have. You don’t have to wear shades anymore. The future isn’t bright enough for you to afford that awesome pair of Oakley’s. If Robert J. Samuelson is accurate; we are entering into a new age of risk. He explains below.

The President, Planned Parenthood, and The Black Mass Against Traditional Morality
Yes, it has come to this. We hate our unborn children, our national future, our legacy to the world that much. We can threaten furloughs against the poor sods who “push tin” at LaGuardia Airport, but “Planned Parenthood isn’t going anywhere.” At a going rate of 1 million abortions every three years, it’s going to the moon under our current president.
Planned Parenthood could be the ultimate example of one of President Obama’s strongest moral priorities. Despite 42 states having enacted laws to restrict abortion, our president still supports this organization to the tune of over $500M per year. He chastises all those (in 84% of the country) who support these restrictions. He says this about the 84%-ers.

“The fact is, after decades of progress, there’s still those who want to turn back the clock to policies more suited to the 1950s than the 21st Century,” Obama said.
I Can’t Quite Bring Myself To Missing Him Yet
In honor of the recent opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Library, Keith Hennessey tells us something about Former US President George W. Bush I never would have read in The New York Times.* He teaches an MBA class at Stanford U and one of the aspiring, bright leading-lights in America’s next colossal mortgage meltdown asked him if George W. Bush was smart. Dumb question. Particularly if the student was a snide liberal hoping Mr. Hennessey would him, haw and duck. Hennessey, to his credit, answered below.
President Bush is extremely smart by any traditional standard. He’s highly analytical and was incredibly quick to be able to discern the core question he needed to answer. It was occasionally a little embarrassing when he would jump ahead of one of his Cabinet secretaries in a policy discussion and the advisor would struggle to catch up. He would sometimes force us to accelerate through policy presentations because he so quickly grasped what we were presenting. I use words like briefing and presentation to describe our policy meetings with him, but those are inaccurate. Every meeting was a dialogue, and you had to be ready at all times to be grilled by him and to defend both your analysis and your recommendation. That was scary.
So George W. Bush, like most sentient, literate human beings, is smarter than the “smart-set” that ridiculed him in the blogs and the newspapers. Does that mean he was good? Does that mean I miss him yet? I’d say he got a bum rap. Like any intelligent person called stupid by Maureen Dowd or Joe Biden, he was pilloried unfairly unless you believe the old saw that it takes one to know one. But no, I can’t say I quite miss George W. Bush. I explain below.

Dear Congressman Brooks (Re: Your Proposed ObamaCare Exemption)
Dear Congressman Brooks, It would appear you are about to exempt yourselves and your Congressional Staffs from the ObamaCare requirement that you and your staffs join a HIX. I, your humble right-wing reactionary from AL-5, am writing just to advise you that there are three ways this whole thing can go. Congress can now either demonstrate its fundamental mendacity and contempt for the laws it | Read More »
Does The US Welfare System Benefit Jihadists?
Our government, our media and the increasingly auto-beclowning supporters of our current national Zeitgeist strive manfully athwart ratiocination to rapidly disconnect the dots on The Boston Marathon Terror Bombing. Like the brilliant government bureaucrat who classified the Major Nidal Hasan’s Fort Hood Jihad Spray-Job as workplace violence, they aren’t lying per se. They’re just bull-(radio edit). Like the evil Jack Nicholson character in A Few Good Men, their operational assumption with respect to the American People is “You can’t handle the truth.”
The truth we supposedly can’t handle, quite simply is this.

State officials confirmed last night that Tsarnaev, slain in a raging gun battle with police last Friday, was receiving benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter. The state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services said those benefits ended in 2012 when the couple stopped meeting income eligibility limits. Russell Tsarnaev’s attorney has claimed Katherine — who had converted to Islam — was working up to 80 hours a week as a home health aide while Tsarnaev stayed at home. In addition, both of Tsarnaev’s parents received benefits, and accused brother bombers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan were recipients through their parents when they were younger, according to the state. The news raises questions over whether Tsarnaev financed his radicalization on taxpayer money *
A Non-Ethics Problem With The Gang Of 8 Bill: It Won’t Work.
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
Oh Good. We have Comprehensive Immigration Reform being set before the US Senate. It’s the brainchild of a Gang of 8. Perhaps I can be forgiven for wondering if that means this bill will be twice as odious as the intellectual deep thoughts of Mao Tse Tung’s Gang of Four.
Now I understand that this was catty and mean, but I’m just getting really tired of these comprehensive master plans from the desks of our elected mental midgets. Attempting to do everything at once with regards to a difficult, complex issue leads us to the type of legislation where you have to pass it first to find out what’s in it. That, I fear is what will happen with the latest Comprehensive Immigration Reform proposal.

A Comedy Party With Senators Baucus and Rockefeller
Senator Franken from Minnesota may have worked once as a Comedian, but he’s got to brush up his act if he wants to win a comedy slam against Montana Senator Max Baucus or West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller. You see, both of these gentlemen were quite the dashing cocksmen during the lamentable fathering of the Senate version of Obamacare. Now, like the prototypical cad served with a paternity suit, they both want to sing the refrain made famous by the rap-artist Shaggy.*
Senator Jay Rockefeller kicked off Improv Night with the following description of his own legislative handiwork. What? You mean your own piece of legislation was bad, Senator Rockefeller? Yepper, Daddy was a pistol, now Obamacare is a son of a gun.

Obama visits Texas but not West, Texas
As reigning monarch over the burgeoning American Empire, Barack Obama finds his schedule jam-packed. He has to prioritize. It’s vital that he not get spread too thin. It’s tough being king, but somehow David “Tax-Day” Axelrod helps keep him straight.
For example: Barack Obama found time to address a yearning nation after the Boston Marathon Terror Attack. He couldn’t find one day for attending Lady Thatcher’s memorial service over in Jolly Old England. Another example: Barack Obama has no time in his busy schedule to visit the suffering town of West, TX where a fertilizer plant went sky-high in a tragic industrial accident. He does, however have plenty of time to !FUNDRAISE! in west Texas. Kieth Koffler gives us his majesty’s priorities below.

President Obama is still not scheduled to visit the devastated community of West, Texas, where an explosion at a fertilizer plant five days ago killed 14 – including 11 emergency responders – and wounded approximately 200 people. Up to 75 homes were damaged, as well as an apartment complex that was decimated. Obama so far has sent prayers and money to the town, but not himself.
