Fiscal Cliff Issues: Framed, Distorted
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | December 31st at 09:33 AM |
Issues that dominate headlines include the economy, unemployment, government spending, the deficit, the national debt, tax policy and tax code reform. The good news is that Democrats, Republicans and independents seem to agree that the deficit and the debt have to be reduced. The process to get to that goal is where the disagreements lie. A few points for clarity: The “deficit” is the sum | Read More »
Atlas Shrugging
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | August 8th at 10:05 AM |
Indefensibly, the Democrats of the US Congress and the President are rewriting the Preamble of the US Constitution. Currently, our supreme law of the land reads, “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our | Read More »
Referendum on America
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | July 19th at 10:29 AM |
As President Barack Obama pours gasoline on the only fire burning in his campaign, envy and disdain of the successful, otherwise labeled as “pay your fair share” or class warfare, it can only be deduced that the Democratic Party of Thomas Jefferson and William Jefferson Clinton is now an homogeneous lot who clamors against those who work and pursue achievement. To wit, the declaration | Read More »
Revealed: Despotic Obama
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | June 20th at 10:30 PM |
Many of us who have warned against Barack Obama and his agenda since the 2007-2008 election cycle are relieved. Barack Obama has come out of the closet to reveal exactly what we’ve been saying: He’s the anti-thesis of that which has made America great; his agenda is despotic. Charles de Montesquieu writes, “…in despotic government, one alone, without law and without rule, draws everything along | Read More »
In August Alone
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | August 1st at 06:05 PM |
With “Trillions” of dollars now flying around in the political lexicon like the wind, let’s look at how reckless congressional and government spending has created this crisis. In August alone, the Bipartisan Policy Center projects that the U.S. Treasury will receive approximately $172 billion into the coffers from federal revenues. However, August’s approved spending by the U.S. Congress totals $307 billion. In just one month, the U.S. | Read More »
The Simple Solution: Cut Spending
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | July 28th at 07:36 PM |
A convoluted web of serious problems has converged, all due to decades of treating the government as a vending machine. Each issue has a simple solution. Ratings agencies are threatening to ”downgrade” US bonds from the current AAA rating. This is not contingent on the debt ceiling being raised. This problem relates to our excessive debt with the solution to be drastic spending cuts. Based on current reports, | Read More »
Don’t Miss the Point of the Debt Ceiling
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | July 20th at 09:00 AM |
With the back-and-forth of the debt ceiling “crisis”, there seems to be confusion that benefits incumbents on both sides of the political aisle. The Debt Ceiling has been raised 102 times since 1917, with 10 increases since 2001. The Debt Ceiling is, sadly, pretty similar to the sub-prime lending debacle. The Treasury has to approach Congress with the request to increase the “borrowing limit”. Over | Read More »
Resolute to Contradict
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | March 16th at 03:55 PM |
From the diaries by Erick Tuesday’s continuing resolution vote is a snapshot of contradiction. Despite the fears, there’s no need for a government “shutdown”. It’s truthfully unnecessary with “essential services” continuing, nonetheless. Here’s the problem. Five months ago, a sweeping election occurred in Tennessee and across the nation that elected folks who ran on pledges of repealing or defunding Obamacare, defunding Planned Parenthood, and overall conservative leadership. On | Read More »
Stability or Freedom?
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | February 1st at 06:47 PM |
“Washington issued around 10 contradictory statements within a 24-hour period” was a statement from an Asharq Alawsat article regarding the situation in Cairo, Egypt. Without question, the convoluted nature of this moment is problematic. However, sending mixed and confusing signals paves the road only with good intentions, not a commitment to solutions. A few things that haven’t been in press accounts that do matter in | Read More »
Dump the Ducks!
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | November 15th at 09:39 AM |
The direct relationship between those defeated, lame-duck, Members of Congress returning after their defeat and their votes supporting President Barack Obama’s pretentious “health care reform” is obvious. The memory of voters from townhall meetings in 2009 that were completely ignored by the Democrats in Congress was evidenced by the massive losses experienced by the Reid-Pelosi-led majority. As the remaining two weeks of the Lame | Read More »
$5 Million of YOUR Money…Words Can’t Describe! by Robin Smith
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | September 13th at 07:10 PM |
Our nation is in a financial struggle for a healthy survival. While there have been politicians who talk about “stimulating the economy through the Recovery Act” and others who’ve talked about tax cuts and incentives for small businesses, the U.S. Treasury keeps sending out money at the approval of Congress and agency approvals for projects too absurd to believe. Today, it is reported that the | Read More »
Symbols and Substance by Robin Smith
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | September 11th at 05:04 PM |
With the ninth anniversary of the attack on America, September 11, 2001, there have been many discussions relative to symbols of various faiths, acts of patriotism and remembrance. Most recently, the pastor’s threat to burn copies of the Qur’an to protest the Islamic extremists’ role in terrorism was harshly criticized. In my opinion, the criticism is justified. A few responses to the Florida’s pastor’s threat were rather enlightening: violent protests in Afghanistan, | Read More »
The New Financial Center: Washington, DC
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | March 26th at 03:04 PM |
The times in Washington demand reform. Everyone, regardless of party affiliation, knows this and is calling for changes in the way our government handles your money. However, I am the only 3rd District candidate who has stepped up to support earmark elimination…the practice of designating a sum of money away from its intended use and to another project, almost always a pet project of a | Read More »
“Do More Than Connect the Dots!” Robin Smith, TN-3
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | January 12th at 02:47 PM |
During the last few weeks, the phrase, “Connect the dots” has returned to our national conversation following the failed Christmas Day terror bombing. We must “connect these dots.” Our focus, however, should be the clear picture recognizable from the dots already connected yet ignored; ignored out of the scream of “intolerance” and the fear of being deemed “politically incorrect.” For decades, the acts of | Read More »
Conservative Work Yielding Results
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | December 15th at 09:32 AM |
The recent rash of announcements that prominent Tennessee Democrats are retiring from Congress or ending their campaigns are the fruits of the labor of countless Tennesseans committed to the causes of less government, lower taxes, more freedom and a strong America. From the days of the founding of the modern Republican Party in Tennessee by names such as Dunn, Brock and Baker, stalwarts have worked | Read More »
Conservative Principles(& the RNC Platform): Defend or Redefine
By: Robin Smith (Diary) | October 27th at 10:47 PM |
After just reading “Two Kinds of Republicans” on Red State, my thoughts go immediately to the Platform of the Republican Party. It is reviewed and written just prior to every presidential election to reflect the beliefs and views of those who affiliate and identify themselves as “Republican”. In its current form (http://platform.gop.com/2008Platform.pdf ) it’s pretty conservative…as it’s been. How is it that so much effort, time | Read More »
