Oof: Bill de Blasio spurned by NYPD at Rafael Ramos funeral.

I don’t know what de Blasio was hoping to accomplish with his presence, but this probably wasn’t it: “Hundreds of police officers turned their backs on a screen showing New ...

The Democratic Process Inches Forward in Burma

The stories of the military junta in Burma and the efforts of activists like Aung San Suu Kyi to install a republican government are well known. Since 2010, though, something extraordinary has been happening. Though it still wields a great deal of influence in the country’s affairs, the military has been gradually ceding control of the government to citizens, and in 2012, Aung San Suu Kyi won a | Read More »

Communist China is still Oppressing Christians

In the days before Christmas, I spent some time discussing the persecution Christians are facing in the Middle East. Both ISIS and Iran are up to their usual tactics. However, the Middle East is not the only region in the world where Christians are being oppressed for practicing their beliefs. In China, the ruling Communists are doing typical Communist things and cracking down on the | Read More »

However, it’s important to remember that the many Christians around the world suffering from persecution won’t have such an opportunity. America’s Saeed Abedini is one of the latter. He is an Iranian American Christian Pastor and former Muslim who has been | Read More »

Dynamic scoring takes another step forward in Congress.

Well, this is a promising first step: “House Republicans are moving to increase the use of dynamic scoring through a rules change that would require long-term estimates of the economic effects of major legislation. The macroeconomic estimates required under the rule would include the projected effects of legislation on economic output, employment and capital stock, resulting in an assessment of how a proposal would cause | Read More »

Goodwill toward men

Peace on Earth, goodwill toward men.  That’s not just a hopeful prayer, it’s a formula.  Peace cannot be long sustained without goodwill. The third ingredient in the formula, according to Luke, is “Glory to God in the highest heaven.”  That’s unfashionable to mention these days.  The critic of religion – all of them in general, or specific examples – will rush to point out that | Read More »

So, France is Scrapping its 75% Tax Rate

France is providing us with a very good case study on what happens when you raise taxes too high. The 75% tax rate imposed upon the richest French residents* was a centerpiece of Socialist Francois Hollande’s campaign for the French Presidency. At any rate, having found out just what happens when you raise taxes to such draconian levels, the country is now quietly scrapping it. | Read More »

Why God Used Angels To Announce Christmas

Erick wrote a post yesterday titled “To Understand the Beginning of the End, You Must Understand the End of the Beginning” which beautifully described God’s covenants with Abraham, Moses and Israel, and the connection to Christmas. I posted a comment posing the question “Did you ever wonder why God used angels to speak to Mary and Zechariah and Joseph?” with a possible answer. This post is the expanded version of that answer with lots of Scripture to back it up and an interesting twist at the end.
