MEMBER DIARY

Why I’ve decided to not only vote for Romney, but help in every way I can to get him elected.

When Obama was elected and after we had witnessed the inauguration freak show (reminded me of Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’), I told a friend I had never before been afraid for my country until that moment. I could not, and still can’t, understand how people could be so gullible as to fall for his empty Hope and Change spiel. How could this nobody be elected President of this United States? It’s like he was created in a laboratory specifically for this purpose. Where are all the people who said “I knew him when…”? Where’s his high school sweetheart, the girl he took to prom? Where are the guys he hung out with? Where are all his college buddies? Did I miss something? Nearly four years later and we still know virtually nothing about this man except perhaps the most important thing of all…his and his cronies “vision” for America.

I’ve never believed Obama was/is the mastermind behind everything that’s happened during his term. He screws up too much when he’s on his own without either a minder or a teleprompter. That said, he’s had plenty of help, both visible and behind the scenes. Now, here we are on the precipice of doom. A deficit I doubt we’ll ever be rid of, a house and senate full of Republicans who’ve sold us out time and time again. Obamacare has already left its mark with higher premiums for nearly everyone. The not-for-profit hospital system I work for has trimmed and trimmed and trimmed by the millions and yet we still must trim +/- $178,000,000 more over the next couple of years. Gas prices are insane, food has gone up along with everything else. Come January, we are set to be hit with massive tax hikes and no jobs for those who truly wish to work. I could go on and on, but y’all already know this song and all the verses.

Back to Romney. I don’t like him, I don’t trust him. I still think he’s the wrong person and I don’t think he’ll stand up to the likes of McConnell and Boehner. BUT, I’ve gone from being afraid for my country to being terrified Obama will win again and what that will mean. So, I will donate dollars and time when I can, I will try to adjust my attitude and, as I have been for a while now, I will pray each and every night that Romney wins and that I am very, very wrong about him.

I’ll do some volunteer work and write some counter blogs on liberal sites. I wanted someone else but the party is broken so only voters can help the country despite the party failures and the continued stupidity.

This election is too important, not just because of Obamacare but we could see up to 3 SCOTUS justices resign in the next four years. Talk about liberal court hell. They’re getting old, Ginsburg has cancer and some people are still holding their noses. Push the red button on super Tuesday!!!

  • ken58

But I reserving my political donations for actual conservatives.
I’m not rich. There’s a limit to how much I can donate to political campaigns. I wasted money on the McCain campaign (but only because he picked Palin before which I was totally uninterested in supporting him). This time around I’m going to be more strategic with my donations. I’ll be picking solidly conservative candidates running for other offices, people who’ll either keep a President Romney on the straight and narrow or vigorously oppose a re-elected Obama.
So yesterday when a Romney fund raising letter arrived it went straight into the trash. Meanwhile the fund raising letter from Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker did get action.

    • Filibuster Keaton

The first Romney letter I received asked for $2500.

There hasn’t been a second, although there’ve been calls.

  • naharu89x7

That will tip the balance, provided Obama doesn’t do something stupid before the election and defeats himself.

I don’t believe Romney is lying about his Conservative beliefs. There has been much disinformation about him from many sources. Everything I know about Romney is that when he says he supports marriage being between a man and a woman, when he states he is pro-life, and his position on rebuilding america’s strength, influence and power in the world, he means it.

Romney is not the monster some make him out to be…that would be Obama. I have family that actually met him, they told me he was real, as in, the image he has on TV is what you get.

Romney also went on record and talked with the people of Massachusetts directly via talk radio. He took calls and spoke to people directly.

He also took no salary when he was governor.

    I choose to trust him.

  • filobeddoe

It’s a little annoying reading these blogs from people telling us that they didnt like Romney but now will gladly throw their entire support behind Romney. Rather than some genuine “coming round”, it appears to me more like a phony, planned campaign tactic to get those of us conservatives who refuse to hold our nose again to vote for Romney.

The tactic is very transparent and not very effective.

Being an adult means facing the reality that life often provides us with choices that we don’t like. We can either make the best of it, or we can feed our egos and pride and end up with an even worse result.

Romney is no prize, but he is magnitudes better than Obama. The country is already in a really bad spot. Kicking the can further down the road is not a good idea.

What is more important—doing less harm to the country, or giving you the warm fuzzies in the voting booth?

      • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

I came around earlier in the week and posted a diary along the same lines.

    • powertothepeople

of any sort, you would recognize the glaring fact that regardless of who won the primary, our main goal always was and will remain beating Obama. The time to fight for the conservative was in the primaries and way too many were finding ways to discredit every conservative in the battle. He or she was not a gov, we will not elect someone from Congress, Gardasil, and so on. So now we are stuck with Romney.

It is not that they all of a sudden love Romney or want you to believe they do, they just understand what the goal must be and they are committed to it.

If you are too much of a dumbass to understand that, fine. But I guarantee that if you continue announcing you will not vote for him, your time here will be limited. But at least then you can go post BS like this on some fanatic site.

PS No one here gives a damn about convincing you of anything. There is no tactic, simply educated folks displaying their knowledge that Obama is a huge problem, and enemy of our way of life, and that Romney on his worst day is still head and shoulders above Obama on his best day.

      • powertothepeople

it should not be ” and enemy’ but rather “an enemy.”

        • commonsenseobserver

Should compare Obama’s quotes with his record, like all the ads they are producing now, BUT then move on to detail how Romney’s plan will help job creators and working people, and how, under President Romney’s responsible, fair, and pro-growth economic policies, America will have a brighter future. :D
Something like McCain’s “Compare” ad, but far clearer and definitely more solid with snips of evidence about how Obama’s policies have been estimated by the CBO to weaken growth, and how much his tax hikes would actually cost the average ordinary working family. It’d be best if the information could relate to Americans on a personal level, so that we speak in terms of, say, the per capita debt rather than mentioning “trillions”.

They could even separate them by category if they wanted too.

We cannot allow Obama to claim the rhetoric of optimism.

  • filobeddoe

Calling me a dumbass. A child. We certainly know that the Romney campaign surrogates are out in force here. Same old negative name calling and attacks we see throughout the campaign.

I am conservative. I vote conservative. So, someone else will get my write in vote. I dont owe my vote to the Republican party or Mitt Platitudes, who is a democrat as far as I can tell.

This is how we end up with Bush and Boehner and McConnell by selling out our principles. The question is better pointed your way. Are you really a conservative?

    • gekster

      1. Using ‘reply to this’ acurately is a sign of intelligence around here.
It helps others follow the conversation and aids in the flow of the conversation.

      2. Who are you going to vote for who has a chance to beat Obama.

      • filobeddoe

Because no one actually hit reply to my comments. You set an odd threshold for measuring intelligence.

Whoever i decide to write in has zero chance of winning. Unless, I convince 45 million or so more of you.

The question is what do you define as “winning”. The RP defines it is as defeating Obama. I define it as replacing him with someone who has conservative values and will happily promote them. Otherwise, we just end up with another Bush who creates whole new entitlement programs. This destroys the brand.

In my opinion, conservatives should dump the Republican Party. Boehner and McConnell have only reinforced this belief.

        • gekster

I was just giving you some info, take it or leave it.

And you are like the guy who want’s to win the war in one battle.
          That usually doesn’t happen.
2010 was just a start, and it will take years to get to where we want to get.
But I can rest assurred you, your vote will be more for Obama than a protest because the voters in the primaries didn’t pull the lever for who you liked.
And at this point, you are just sounding like a whinney kid who didn’t get his way.

Stomp your feet and throw a fit all you want, but it is you and those like you who Obama is counting on to get re-elected.

          • filobeddoe

that 2010 was the start. Because I saw 2011 as the end. I saw Boehner and McConnell intentionally roll over the Tea Party freshman. What was our major accomplishment for 2011? We raised the debt ceiling without a fight or getting anything in return. I am more worried we wont keep the house. Are we conservatives or minority shareholders in the RP? I would hope that getting more RINOs out and more conservatives in would turn things around. But we dont have 3 elections to do that.

          • civil truth

…because it will take a minimum of three election cycles before we could install a conservative Senate and cement a conservative House. Institutional inertia works both ways…

          • filobeddoe

But the problem is that I see a Romney election and his liberal notions will eventually turn the country against the Republicans just like Bush did. Then we will have to start over. I wish we had some election cycles but I dont think there is time.

Rush would agree with you. He said it the other day.

          • civil truth

Not many people seem to recognize the necessity of taking a longer perspective.

          • filobeddoe

            it was Tuesday’s program.

          • filobeddoe

On this point, I take the long term. We are always told we have to wait until next time. That we have to be patient. Somehow, that next time never comes. Getting more conservatives is always great. But electing someone who is LESS than a RINO puts us years more away. Romney is courting independents. He, and his establishment cohorts, just assume that we will just have to swallow. We are taken for granted. If the establishment had to court conservatives like it does independents, we would be moving the ball forward. So, if the establishment wants my vote, court me like you do the independents.

Your concerns about the SC and Obama are all valid. I just see a different way of getting to the promised land. The other way sure hasnt worked the past 20 years.

And as to my ball, yeah, I dont owe Mitt Romney, the Republican Party or the establishment my vote. If they want it, they cant court me the same way they want independents.

          • civil truth

…but I’m turning in for the night now.

have yet to be educated. They aren’t second-class citizens or morons.

As far as “waiting until next time” goes, this is the next time. Seize the day.

          • SpiderMike

            “. . . I could not, and still can

          • Flagstaff

“I wish we had some election cycles but I dont think there is time.”

            Time to do what?

“We raised the debt ceiling without a fight or getting anything in return.”

Although it’s impossible to know what would have happened, a good guess is that failure to raise the debt ceiling would have guaranteed an Obama victory in the upcoming election. So what we got is the chance to consolidate gains in the House and take control of the Senate and White House. If Romney is as you say, full of “liberal notions will eventually turn the country against the Republicans just like Bush did,” then we will definitely have to start over because that will be the death knell of the Republican Party. But you must recognize that Obama’s “liberal notions” have most assuredly not turned the whole country against him–just his most extreme ones. Almost half the country still approves.

Everything that Romney has campaigned on is based on cutting spending and reducing the deficit with the intention of eliminating it. For some reason, you and some others refuse to accept the word of the man. But put yourself in his position. Why in the world would he not do what he campaigned on, or at least try to do it (depending on how much he can overcome Democrat intransigence)? You do realize the Obama did exactly as he said he would, except for issues that he could NOT succeed in, such as closing Gitmo and trying those prisoners in NYC. His own party was against him on those two, because they knew they were losing propositions. So now he is using executive orders to do what he can to damage the country, and if he’s re-elected he’ll continue to do damage for four more years.

My prediction is that Romney will not behave is if he were trying to curry favor to win re-election. He will behave as if his goal is to turn the ship back on course, even if it means he is not even re-nominated (but of course he would be if he succeeds). I do believe that Romney is campaigning to serve the country, not campaigning to occupy the White House for eight years.

I suggest that you read Glenn Beck’s book, Broke. It has surprised me by how much information it has, all of it relevant to our current situation.

LBJ’s Great Society set the New Deal into hyperdrive in just about five years, creating the foundation for the mess we have today. Obama could sink us if we give him eight.

I’ll take my chances with Mitt Romney. Personally, I think he’s far more conservative than W was, and he has the skill set we need right now. Even if I’m wrong about him, I’m not wrong about Obama.

          • PowerToThePeople

and to have expected it to happen between 2010 and now was absurd. It takes time to not only clean out a house but also to get the voters to see the right reasons to fire people such as Boehner. It takes and will take many election cycles to get our elected party officials back to conservatism but the answer is never to stop the cleaning and try to build or support a new house as you have been suggesting. The only thing a third party or write in vote (new house) accomplishes is a guaranteed democratic majority and the destruction our our country.

You can do as you please, but the rest of us who love this country and know what must be done will continue to work from within, swallow our pride and support who we have to until we are able to put someone up better, and continue to clean house as is being seen with Lugar. Those who want to whine and cry and threaten to take their ball home can get the hell out of the way and get lost.

Once Romney clinches the nomination, we will not tolerate calls for write-ins, protest votes, third parties, etc. So if you are not willing to accept the GOP nominee, I suggest that you move along elsewhere.

      • filobeddoe

Sounds more like the Red Brigade than conservatism to me.

Nonetheless, I did not call for anyone else to do anything. I simply said what I was going to do. Not that I really have to defend myself. If calling people “idiots” and “stupid” is what passes for conservative debate around here, it’s not much of a site, is it?

        • Bill S

          .

          • filobeddoe

I guess I have until Romney clinches the nomination to tell everyone how silly it is to vote for this guy. He’s not even a Republican. Unless, you define someone who ENACTS (heheh, i was wrong on that one) socialist healthcare a Republican. Or, is he severely conservative. I dont see the point of running out RINOs like Lugar and Hatch so we can install one as President.

        • civil truth

…and the owners set the rules of behavior. The moderators (in red) enforce the rules.

When a tsunami is bearing down on us (i.e. a second Obama term), this is not the time to take out the fire extinguishers.

          • filobeddoe

And I see how they are enforced. But, being a true conservative, I am all for private property.

But I am against high taxes, excessive regulations, gay marriage, abortion, gun control, 90210 reruns. Romney will do a lotta damage to the Republican brand. I dont need to help that.

          • PowerToThePeople

would be so much better on those issues and would not erode our way of life any further. It never ceases to amaze me just how stupid some people are. They rail about how moderate Romney is and how he will not focus or support certain conservative ideals and yet never mention how Obama does focus on them but his focus is the destruction of our ideals.

So Romney is no where near the right guy for the job, but the failure to have a conservative in his place is our own. The primaries were the time to put the right guy/gal into the drivers seat and we failed. So now it is time to support the very worthy cause of ridding this nation of Obama and Romney is the guy we are stuck doing it with.

I know it will be hard for you to comprehend these facts, but try!

          • civil truth

If you’re in a winner-take-all state where the outcome is a foregone conclusion, then you has the luxury to abstain. Much tougher decision if you live in a swing state. You’re not alone in this quandary.

I just don’t care. Im tired of voting for Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush and McCain. What did that get us? Barack Obama. If we hold the House, Obama will be effectively neutered. The SC? Who put Souter on the Court. WHo tried to put Harriet on the Court?

Romney is a “moderate” now? I thought he was a severe conservative. Romney enacted a socialist healthcare system. He sat there with Ted Kennedy laughing as he signed the bill. That should clue you in on Romney’s worldview.

Is that clear enought for you?

          • PowerToThePeople

what the hell does severe have to do with conservatism and who has accused Romney of being one?

Second, all the rest of your typed crap is irrelevant. The time for your purity was in the primaries and unless you worked your knuckles to the bone supporting a conservative, your constant crying is obnoxiously irrelevant.

And are you forgetting who Obama put on the SC? I think most would consider those choices to be much worse than Souter and Harriet.

Damn, did someone hang out the sign “We need more morons to post on this site?” You silly bastards have been swarming like rats lately.

PS keep working on learning how to use the reply to this button. It seems so hard for you to understand how not to reply to yourself, I almost feel bad for you. Is there some mental handicap we need to know about you so we can not be so hard on you?

          • commonsenseobserver

We all know that strange quote, and it was a strange choice of phrases, but this election is a choice between moderation in defense of liberty and extremism in advancing statism.

  • filobeddoe

If no one is trying to convince conservatives to vote for Romney and give money, what was the purpose of this blog?

As for “limited time here”, are we banning conservatives who dont toe the party line? Do you speak for the people who run this site? Cause that sounds more like a liberal tactic. No wonder you like Romney.

    • PowerToThePeople

for a person like you to muster the brain cells to use the reply to this button, but try. It allows a person to know an idiot such as yourself has responded to them.

And while I do not speak for the site, I do know their rules. And a set in stone rule is no third party advocating, no stating your intent to not vote the republican in the general, and failure to abide by these rules is a ban.

But nice try with the whole cliche “your like a liberal” silliness. But then again is it obvious you are too stupid to search a persons posts or you would know their is no love lost between myself and Romney, so one can not expect much intelligence from you.

Now lets see if you are able to master the reply to this button prior to you being shown to the door. One can hope right?

After reading the article It frightens me that people that pray for the outcome of their wishes is clearly deluded. I am not one of the 1% of the wealthiest in the nation and do not want to support that group. I was looking for substance in this article and found none that supports Romney other than her prejudices towards Obama. Romney’s knowledge on foreign policy is clearly not his strong point. At a time in this world and the delicate nature that we are in needs a president who is clear minded and calculates his decisions decisively and taking the appropriate action. What I don’t want running this country is a business man who’s sole interest is in wealth and would sell off a company along with its workers to the highest bidder.

    • streiff

as opposed to a feckless politician who will kill
Americans and sell the country to the highest bidder just for grins. Idiot.

    • Martin Knight

What evidence is there that Obama has any knowledge of foreign policy?

And what I find even more amazing is that liberals genuinely do not see the connection between wealth, profits and jobs. They honestly believe profit, wealth and employment are completely independent of each other.

      Wow.

Opinions are opinions. Mine is that Romney would be a pretty good president and stands an excellent chance of being elected.

To put things in perspective, here’s how I rank presidents who have served during my life:

    1. JFK and Reagan (tie)
    2. Eisenhower
    3. Nixon
    4. GHWB
    5. Clinton
    6. Truman
    7. GWB
    8. Ford
    9. Carter
    10. LBJ and Obama (tie)

IMO, Romney would make the top 5.

everyone here is trying to get rid of Dick Lugar (an idea I thoroughly support) at the same time they are propping up Mitt Romney, the guy who enacted state run health care. You’re bailing water out one end of the boat while you’re pouring it in the other end.

  • demsaresatanic

I would put all Republicans above all demorats.

  • kaheo

We get that, so what will you do on Nov 6th – Stay home/Write-in? Or are you hoping for a convention uprising to install someone else?

  • WmCraig

You make a good case for supporting Romney’s election this fall. I accepted the reality of the primary myself recently. Romney’s election is important for the country, as much for the benefits down ticket as for the White House itself.

That said there are two things that concern me when people “embrace Romney” to avoid four more years of Obama\.

1, Defeating Obama does not mean we won’t have four more years of him. It just means they don’t start in 2013, I am really afraid few people get that.

    2. Obama is an organizer AGAINST the establishment. Since President Obama IS the establishment, he is severally handicapped as he goes about attempting to redefine the establishment so he can attack it. He will NOT be handicapped as the “former President” in this way. There is no requirement that he remain on the side lines. No requirement that he restrain his voice. Nothing preventing him from spilling critical information, or organizing against Romney to undermine everything Romney tries to do. Obama’s relations with the media are such that he will get far more air time then Romney or any government spokesperson. He could literally suck the air out of the room leaving no opportunity for Romney and the squishy Republicans in Congress to make any progress at all.

It won’t be good enough to simply vote Obama out of office. His policies have to be thoroughly and permanently debunked. The size of the federal government has to be drastically reduced and the power the federal government has over domestic policy must be dismantled in favor of state authority.

Otherwise, we could see Obama return on a wave of anger at Republican incompetence engineered by former President Obama. Obama could return to power with enough support to eliminate that meddlesome term limit provision preventing him from becoming President for Life. Ex-President Obama is just as dangerous to our liberty, if not more so.

Obama is much more effective as the organizer criticizing the establishment. Without the inconvenience of being President, it will be much easier to be right about everything , and giving him more media exposure to suck the air out of the room for any voice but his own. Loosing this election could make Obama more powerful for a run in 2016.

    Are we prepared for that?

  • filobeddoe

Im gonna write in someone for President. Another republican or libertarian I like. I’ll vote Republican down the rest of the line.

  • commonsenseobserver

And voting for a straight Republican ticket, including Willard Romney for President of the United States.

Democrats aren’t working, neither are third parties.

  • gekster

Who is it that will beat Obama and be less worse than Rromney.
Or are you just an Obama supporter trying to convince others to write in some one to get Obama another half vote.
    What is it homer..
