Last Stand On Earth or Last Impediment on Earth? Notes on this Season of Thanks (updated)

Ronald Reagan said we are the Last Stand on Earth, while George Soros said we are the Last Impediment.

For the still-undecided, can it get any simpler than that?

A time for thanks is once again upon us, only Thanks this year, to me at least, takes on a much deeper and richer meaning.

Most of us will once again gather round the family table, hold hands and offer up thanks for the nearness of family and friends, the bounty of bread on our table, the roof over our head….then…lest we forget…we will remember the millions of Americans who have less family, fewer friends, lots less bread and roofs over their heads this year than last…and then we will raise our eyes in praise and joy and thankfulness…

…for just three weeks ago we finally began The End of the criminal madness that brought all this down on our brother and sister Americans’ heads.

It has to end here…with us. Starting now, we begin to finish it.

In that light, These Things I am a thankful for this special season of Thanks:

I’m not a war lover, but I do like a good fight, especially one I’d be a cowardly sumbitch to avoid, and also one I think I can win. So, this week I raise my voice in thankfulness because it is likely I will get to live to see the beginning of the end of this fight, rather than one my grandson will have to fight. That’s what November 2 gave us. A start, and a promise to our children.

I thank God it is still up to me…and thee of like minds…rather than those innocent children like my young grandson, who brought none of this on themselves, and who, twenty years from now, will find their own fight ten times more daunting and bloody than the one we face now…or worse…a prison a thousand times more tyrannical than any you’ve ever imagined, if we don’t face down this Enemy now. November 2 proved we can do this.

Having seen the Left’s paradise up close, I give thanks that I can do these things.

I’m thankful that this couple will not be taken away to the nearest animal shelter and put down like stray dogs.

Photobucket

I’m thankful that these people will not be denied gainful employment, or decent housing because someone spied this candid religious moment in their lives and reported them to higher authorities.

Photobucket

I’m thankful these “unwanted children” were allowed into the world, anyway, and someday will even be welcome in Rhode Island.

Photobucket

I’m thankful that in America children will still be able to grow up innocent and filled with wonder at the smallest of little nature’s little miracles.

Photobucket

I’m thankful “this” star will never be raised over our capitol dome. (This is George Soros’ Hungary in 1957, btw).

Photobucket

God created Man, and Sam Colt made them equal, so I’m thankful that both THE RIGHT and THE REALITY of the Second Amendment will continue to exist side by side in America.

Photobucket

I’m thankful that America will still be the shining city on the Hill…

Photobucket

…instead of Mr Soros and Mr Obama’s and Mrs Pelosi’s and Mr Reid’s Gulag

Photobucket Photobucket

I am thankful for those fine young men and women who faced death, and kissed the saints on our behalf. I can never say “Thank You” or “Thank You, God for them”, enough.

Photobucket

Finally, by popular demand, I need to set additional pics of the gang here at RedState, our Mama Grizzlies, and our Wild Bunch…for whom we are all thankful.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

As you can see, there will be no smoking of peace pipes in the coming years.

So, I am thankful that we will be their worst nightmare, rather than them ours.

Praise the Lord and pass the mashed potatoes! Or something like that.

The pictures speak a thousand words….and then some.

I will add one more though, that I am sure many of us here at RedState are thankful for – each other. We are here, together, to support and sustain one another in preserving our country.

    Yes, indeed, I am thankful.

…you’re right of course, we should be thankful for these warriors at RedState. Want to suggest a picture?

Especially the photo of the children.

I am thankful that my grandparents on both sides had the foresight to leave Italy and brave the waters to make it to Ellis Island, for a better future for their children and their grandchildren. And I am thankful to have the foresight to brave these “liberal waters” for my families children and grandchildren’s future.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Mr. Bushmills and the rest of the gang at Redstate.

Just having the good luck to have been born in this country says it all for me.
Blessings to you Vassar Bushmills and all who sit at the Thanksgiving table with you.

but mostly I am thankful that the TEA Party Movement has happened in time to save the Union. That WE The People stood up and will continue to stand up to the forces of tyranny together in God’s grace!

To God, the Constitution and the results of Mssrs. Smith, Wesson, Colt and Remington industry making it possible to defend my right to say this.

I’m thankful my daughter beat breast cancer (even though she lost her union job because she missed some work being treated for cancer).

I’m thankful my son graduated from college with only a little bit of debt.

I’m thankful my husband and I are employed, and in good health.

I pray my fellow Citizens stand against the insanity which is inundating Our Beloved Country.

So this Thanksgiving remember those gone and those away.
Remember Freedom from Want and Remember for those who earn to be Free.

Praise be to God. Remember and Be Thankful.

But I’m keepin my bark on. I hope to teach my grandkids the same before I’m gone.

I’ll have an extra thanksgiving prayer to say for my namesake nephew, who is deployed to the badlands yet again, 12 or 13th time . . . I can’t keep up.

    Rangers lead the way!

The following was forwarded to me by Mike Davis, who I recruited to run for the office of precinct committeeman here in Maricopa County, AZ by handing him my precinct committeeman recruitment flyer at a tea party rally in 2009 and speaking to him briefly. Mike went on to form the Deer Valley Tea Party and recruited more tea partiers to become precinct committeemen. Last Monday night he and other constitutional conservatives swept the elections in Legislative District 6 in Arizona — all officer slots (Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, etc.) were filled by constitutional conservatives and all 69 state committeemen slots (there’s one for every three elected PCs) were filled by constitutional conservatives.

    I wrote about it here:

    http://www.redstate.com/biggator5/2010/11/17/life-in-the-rec-part-one/#comment-870

After the meeting, Mike sent me this, penned by a husband and wife to their fellow conservative PCs:

To all of our friends and relatives

Sue and I were talking to Sonny and Linda Friday night and we came to the conclusion that we owe an apology to our kids. We were attending the Deer Valley Tea Party meeting and we noticed that most of the attendees were over forty. We discussed that and came to the conclusion that we have failed our kids.

How did we fail them? Much in the same way our parents failed us. We were never taught to get involved in politics. I don’t mean we were not taught to exercise our right to vote. They taught us to do that. We selected the candidates we thought would be best for us and voted for them. So how did we fail?

First, we failed to get involved at the local level to determine who would be on the ballot. Yes, that process starts at home. We, the people, determine who will be the nominee for our “party”. That process is simple but complex. If any of you want to know the particulars of the process we will be happy to explain it to you.

Second, we failed to follow up on the elected candidates to make certain they did what they said they would do. We knew that most of them lied to us and, once in office, did what they wanted to do. Our answer was, “Oh well, that proves that politicians can’t be trusted. They are all the same”. Then we stopped and let things happen. We let our government get out of control. They became a government of “to the people” rather than “of the people, by the people and for the people”. And that is why our nation is in serious trouble today.

Others were not so complacent. Many had an organized agenda to “change our government”. Sound familiar? So they went about dismantling our constitution and eliminating our rights. And we sat idly by and let it happen. Then came Obama. He promised change and went about changing our world at super fast speed. Then he awoke the “sleeping giant”. The tea party was born and we started resisting Obama’s version of change.

Did we awaken in time to save our nation? That remains to be seen. We have an uphill battle and a bunch of “old geezers” to fight it. Are we up to the battle? Well, maybe over the short haul. But these people, bent on destroying our nation, are patient. They can wait a few years for the old geezers to tire of the fight or die. Which brings us back to our observation of seldom seeing anyone under forty at the tea party meetings.

We didn’t teach our kids to get involved so they are not. And, again we apologize for our failure to teach you properly. We feel we may be the last generation to protect our freedom. We are aware that many of our kids are fighting wars abroad, as our generation did. We honor them for their commitment to serve their country. But, how many are involved in fighting the war at home. There are dangers here. Our freedoms are more at risk of attack from within. The danger is real and for the last few decades the bad guys have been winning the war. The old geezers can fight it for a while but not indefinitely. You kids will have to get involved or suffer the consequences after we are gone.

Some of you think we are going off the deep end. We send you good information and you tune us out. You delete or block our e-mails, You yawn as we are talking to you and find reasons to leave or change the subject. You find reasons to not get involved. You have to work for a living. You don’t have time. Politics is boring. You just want to be left alone.

We wish our parents had tried to teach us as we are trying to teach you. Well, the truth be known, our years are numbered. You and your children will have to live with the results of our fight for many years. And, even if we are successful in saving our nation, it will only last as long as citizens of all ages are willing to fight to maintain those freedoms. The choice is yours.

    Ron and Sue
    Sonny and Linda

I am thankful for people like Ron and Sue, Sonny and Linda.

This afternoon a candidate for Arizona Republican Party chairman called me. He wants to talk. To me. Little old nobody me. Why? He thinks, for some reason, that maybe, just maybe, I can deliver him some state committeeman votes. He thinks, maybe, I know a few conservative state committeemen. He needs their votes to get elected to the state chair.

Wherever did he get that idea?

Yes. We will talk. We’ll have a “serious conversation.” I’ll set the agenda.

Tonight I spoke with Sheriff Joe. Seeking his endorsement of the “conservative slate” of officers we’ve put together in my legislative district. We’ve been counting noses. We think we’ll win. But an endorsement form Sheriff Joe will help. Why would Sheriff Joe take a call from me?

Tonight I attend an “open house” hosted by a conservative slate in another legislative district that will have its leadership election on December 1. Five of their officer candidates weren’t involved in politics at all 18 months ago. One of them was a Redstate lurker. He contacted me through Redstate. Turned out we live about a mile away from each other. We met. He became a PC. And went on a conservative PC recruitment tear. The others I recruited at tea parties. Just good, decent Americans who wanted to “do something.” All they knew to do at that point was to go to a tea party rally. Then I handed them my recruitment flyer. They “got it.” And then they, too, started recruiting. And now they are running for leadership positions INSIDE the Republican Party.

These are some of the people for whom I am thankful.

    Thank you.

    For Liberty,

    ColdWarrior

I copied it and will put it in the diaries I keep for each of my kids. They are both young.

My son is 5 and my mom bought him the book written by Lynne Cheney about Washington Crossing the Delaware. He calls it his America Book and says he loves America because it does good things. I adore him, and I want to teach him to fight. I can’t accept that the die for America will be cast in the next few years. I won’t sit and wait, I want to raise a patriot who will pick up the fight for me, when he is old enough.

None of this would have happened without your persistance and encouragement!

You are a Great American Patriot!

Now we need to make all of this effort and sacrifice COUNT!

you have been reminding us of who we truly are as Americans. We’re not useful idiots to be persuaded that good is bad, that death is preferable to life, that joy is a shameful thing and that America is a hideous land of oppression, bigotry, and hopelessness.

Nor are we so damnably evolved in America that God is just an old-fashioned notion of morality that we’ve long outgrown.

You came along and reminded us, at a time when we felt defeated and demoralized at the results of a miserable election, that we are, by God, AMERICANS, first, last and always, and you then have spent thousands of words and untold time reminding us of just what that means Thanks to the spirit that you share so generously with us, we are heartened by remembering our heritage as free men and women who worship God, who bend the knee to no man, but who bow down with reverence, love and respect to our Lord.

This Thanksgiving, among my other many blessings this year, I will give thanks for the wisdom and grace of such a man as you, Vassar, for you made us lift up our heads and know, ” WE CAN WIN THIS!”

    • http://thesandsinstitute.org Vassar Bushmills

If i could write or think half as well as you…then I’d be somebody.

It also especially pleases me just to see you here. I’m twice blessed.

    • penguin2

Mr. Bushmills, for helping us to see that we could stand strong, and fight back the forces of evil. And as you said, Janis, “we are, by God, Americans, first, last and always….”

Thank you, Vassar. (I still think of you as our George Washington.) :)

  • proudmarinemom

for reminding me to be thankful and to pick myself up, dust myself off and try again to focus on all the incredible gifts we enjoy in this great nation. I have allowed my anger at this imposter in the White House to poison my thoughts long enough. The recent defeat of my Congressional candidate has left me bitter and demoralized. The re-election of Frank and Reid and others sickened me, physically and spiritually. The victory parade of a few weeks ago didn’t just pass me by, it trampled me and popped my red balloon.

Just days later, I received a call from the FRO (Family Readiness Officer) of my son’s Marine unit. Two more fine young men were lost in Helmand province. My son is Stateside, having done his fair share now, but that doesn’t console as much as you’d think. My heart breaks at the loss anyway.

I need a good swift kick to stop feeling so sorry for myself. Tomorrow, I’ll welcome three generations of my family to my already-set table (there are 20 chairs around it, somehow!)

I will bow my head and I will not allow these tyrants to drag me any farther away from the God who gave me America. We’ll crowd around my tiny piano and sing “God Bless America” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” until the neighbors make us stop. (We’ll sing “America the Beautiful” for you, VB.) And on Friday, I’ll be ready to fight again.

Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless You (He has)
