Say, Bill, about that \"honorable explanation\" you promised...

Closing arguments are scheduled for Tuesday. The jury will begin deliberations Tuesday or Wednesday.

William Jefferson defense rests after tapes played

ALEXANDRIA, VA. — In a moment of courtroom drama Thursday, the prosecutors in the corruption trial of William Jefferson withdrew their objections and let the former New Orleans congressman’s attorneys play nearly 90 minutes of secretly taped recordings that the defense team said was crucial to his case. …

After more than five weeks of prosecution witnesses, the defense presented its entire case in about two hours.

Jefferson did not take the stand
, a decision that jurors will be instructed they cannot consider or hold against him.

…..guilty by a jury of your peers (was pretty easy to find 12 corrupt politicians – getting them to serve was another thing entirely).

The jury has convicted you on the charges of ‘being a lightweight’ (only $90,000) and ‘You’re Not Doin’ It Right’ (putting the cash in your freezer is rather stooooopid).

You are hereby sentenced to a minimum of 90,000 hours listening to and/or watching any combination of the shows hosted by the following: Glenn Beck ; Neil Boortz ; Mark Levin ; Sean Hannity ; Laura Ingraham ; Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh.

You are also prohibited in perpetuity from any attempt to contact ‘The long-legged mack-daddy’ for assistance or pardon.

      1. I have no particular confidence in the jury system for cases like this.
      2. Even if he is found guilty, I don’t have a whole lot of confidence in the sentencing process.

I would love to be surprised. I mean, heck, OJ did finally get convicted and is serving time. Obviously Harry Reid’s home state has more racists than southern CA.

…made the recordings? The cops? The Honorable Mr. Jefferson?

Notice that he still has the title ’cause he still has his seat, one, like Senator Boxer, he must have worked hard to get. It looks like he’s going to continue to be “The Horoable Mr. Jefferson” long after he ceases to be “the defendant.”
