Why none other than Warren Buffett who now owns controlling shares of Burlington Northern Railway. Like I said, everything in this administration has a public reason and then behind it, the private and political reason. Paying off Buffett for his ridiculous claims about his highly compensated secretary was the reason for this. Obama cares NOTHING about the improvement of American products which means he doesn’t want us to be competitive. He wants us weak and on the government dole.

I wonder that nobody has really commented on the possible reason behind slowing down the new Keystone destination. If you look at the map, the current Keystone ends with refineries in Illiniois-Obama’s alleged home state. The new Keystone XL if enacted as planned would terminate with refineries in Houston, Texas. After hearing the phrase “Chicago Way” the second most disliked phrase has to be “Texas Economic Boom.” I can’t help but think, knowing the way this administration likes to push forth a false reason for their actions, that this is a way to protect Illnois’ lagging downstate economy while appearing to adhere to ultra liberal unchecked EPA standards.

This is also the reason, I believe, for upping the corn ethanol in fuel. The government agencies didn’t even finish their own testing before he started pushing this idea. Even in the face of a possible 20% catastrophic failure rate for engines currently on the road if this is enacted, Obama barrels forth keeping the price of corn ridiculously high. That this also impacts all animal livestock feed and ultimately the cost of groceries to consumers doesn’t matter as long as Obama can get states like Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Illinois to fall in lockstep. Look up Ed Wallace’s various excellent columns on corn ethanol and the political implications and real world results. Also, I don’t know about you guys, but the groceries I bought for $90 in November now costs nearly $130. I’m just sayin………

“Paralleling the existing line would still require permits.” was the answer to my question. Yes I saw the collection point & shorter route but just to get it done I thought a parallel pipe would not require permitting, except at the borders.

Obama knew that he could get the photo-op and the press to push the story that Obama is doing “Something, ANYTHING!!” to bring cheaper fuel to the America. Even though he knew that the real strategic part of the pipeline was not in Oklahoma, it is at the boarder of Canada. Again, Obama knew that was not going to happen on his watch. I have to believe that this “New” objection by the EPA was a forgone conclusion even before he left Washington for the photo-op! It was all part of Obama’s plan….He says yes, someone else says no, oh well…that’s government for you. I can almost hear Obama saying, “Well don’t blame me, I did the best I could. It’s the EPA’s fault, not mine!”
What Obama does not understand how incredibly small, incompetent and ineffectual this makes him look. So what this is saying is that the EPA is more powerful than the President of the United States! More importantly, it says that the President is not in control of his own EPA!
The sooner we get rid of America’s smallest President ever, the better!

That makes no sense.

The main pipeline is to the pipeline terminal at Nederland, TX NOT to Houston. There is a later proposed branch to the Houston Area. There are only two refineries which are presently utilizing heavy & extra heavy crude in the Houston/Gavleston area, Lyondell (50% PDVSA) and Deer Park Manufacturing Complex (Shell/PEMEX), though an outlier in Sweeney (ConocoPhillips) has a history of refining heavy/extra heavy crude oil While the Nederland Terminal connects with extra heavy crude refining capacity in Port Arthur, Groves & Lake Charles thus providing over 1 Million BPD capacity refinery consumption.

The actual need for Canadian crude is more in the Port Arthur and Lake Charles areas than Houston.

Not all crude oil refineries are built to process a “generic” crude oil and can utilize Canadian crude without $BILLIONS in new process units and reconfiguration capital investment.
