Obama WH Secret Phone Conferences Bear Fruit With TV Media’s Limbaugh Attack

Back on January 29, we discussed the daily strategy phone call engineered by Obama’s Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel for friendly TV commentators and “reporters.” Politico reported that Emanuel has a daily phone conference call with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, and CNN’s James Carville and Paul Begala. With Rush Limbaugh’s raucous CPAC address, as he termed it his “first address to the nation,” we can see at least one example of what is likely an attack strategy resulting from the Emanuel phone session with a rush to bash Rush the day after the appearance. [Image credit: politico.com]

As soon as the sun rose on the day after Limbaugh’s CPAC appearance, three of the four of the phone call participants attacked Limbaugh with the same talking points. It seems obvious that they coordinated their attack together in the Obama secret strategy session. It is amazing that a president’s staff can have such power over major media figures without a peep being heard from those that only months ago bashed former presidents over a perceived undue, even “dangerous,” control of the media.

The morning after Limbaugh’s CPAC speech, Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel appeared on CBS News’ Face the Nation and told Bob Schieffer that Limbaugh was the “voice of the Republican Party,” and that he “hasn’t stepped back from” the “hopes for failure” he expressed for Obama’s administration.

James Carville, obeying his Obama marching orders, said pretty much the same thing in his CNN commentary headlined, “A history lesson for Rush Limbaugh,” where Carville began by saying that Rush is the “moral and intellectual leader and most influential person in the Republican Party.”

As for ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, he employed the same talking point about Rush’s hope that Obama’s socialist policies would not succeed — though it is sure that Stephy didn’t call Obama’s policies socialist. In an interview with Eric Cantor, Stephanopoulos said, “So the Rush Limbaugh approach of wanting the president to fail is not the Eric Cantor, House Republican approach?”

So, what we see here is the combined attack emanating out of the secret phone call strategy session pushing the themes that Rush is the “voice of the GOP” and that he wants Obama to be a failure — both talking points that are not exactly in context with the facts. The strategy at work is that these three Democrat activists pretending at members of the media have concocted with the White House through Emanuel an effort to tar all Republicans with the Rush brush.

These Obama strategists think that making Rush the “voice of the GOP” will drive away moderates and make the GOP seem to be leaning toward right-wing extremism. And, by adding Rush’s hope that Obama’s socialist policies fail, these strategists are attempting to claim that Republicans hate Obama merely because he is president (veiled racism) and not because the GOP is against these unAmerican polices Obama is pushing.

Once again, I have to ask, why are these secret phone call strategy sessions not a matter of public discussion? That the White House is orchestrating media messages with the supposedly independent press corps, is it nothing to raise an eyebrow about? Should we not see this as the sort of collusion between the press and the White House that leads to public information controlled by political spinmieisters in the belly of the White House instead of journalists interested in truth? Where are those that only until recently claimed to be interested in a free press dedicated to the real story? Why are they so suddenly quite?

Lastly I’d like to suggest something. These folks are all eager to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, of course. So, I am wondering if it would be “fair” that Rahm include a few conservatives in the secret phone sessions he has with his lap dog media pals? Let’s say along with Stephy, Carville and Begala, Rahm might include Rush and Sean Hannity?? Seems pretty fair to me, anyway!

The MSM has shirked its responsibility to a watchdog over the political process. The foxes, or should I say weasels, are now guarding the hen house. Obama can manage the message and put a media cloak over any malignantly dangerous program or law he wants to pass.

The attack on Limbaugh is shameless and arrogant. Luckily, Rush can take it and he can come back at them. The bigger strategy here is that the Obamulans will use this as part of their argument that we need some type of “Fairness Doctrine” to shut down the “hate speech” of people like Limbaugh.

    • liberalrepublican

Who thinks Begala or Carville are part of the independent press corp?

      silly.

  • JadedByPolitics

because WE know what is happening and Rush etc are quite prepared to shut down the SMEAR being made in the WH….Hey Rahm….WE ARE ON TO YOU!

  • John E.

Since Emanuel has dubbed him “The Voice of the Republican Party” Rush ought to send a message to all the major media outlets especially Schieffer but including NPR and Leherer, asking them why it is they are not contacting him for interviews when they want the Republican point of view. Or else why they aren’t scoffing at Emanuel.

    What exactly is “right-wing extremism”?
When a liberal or a media type says it they are talking about Timothy McVeigh and people who bomb abortion clinics as if that was some sort of GOP platform. They talk about the right-wing as if we are all secret Klan members or are forcing people to pray at gun point.
    It’s a caricature.

We need to take that phrase back from them and make it ours.

    • Achance

as long as it is the right people calling me one. What I don’t like is always being identified as “right wing,” conservative, or “Republican,” which means the same thing to reporters and other lefties when no Democrat is EVER identified as such, as liberal, or as left wing.

      • NeoKong

        It’s a slur.

Anything a leftie says is a slur.

  • psyop_hic

…so who cares what the MSM is saying about Rush. Last time I checked, Rush’s advertisers aren’t bailing on him. The free market is determining that socialist news outlets are unpopular and, indeed, useless.

So, who really cares what takes place in a private conversation between four increasing irrelevant political hacks? I am more concerned with what elected Republicans and our weekend pundits say on the Sunday shows. They should not be distracted by questions references Rush. I would like them to say that “Rush Limbaugh is a private citizen who is entitled to his own opinion. I love Rush Limbaugh. I love free speech. I embrace the conservative movement because I believe it is the best way forward for our country.”

Going on air and arguing about who is leading our party isn’t helping in our districts. Our congressional representatives and senators should be at home speaking to their constituents every chance they get (speaking & listening) instead of getting cornered by the looney left on these dumb shows.

    • Common_Cents

We always discount the power of the MSM!!!! Who cares….their share is falling..

MILLIONS of people take the latest MSM headline or sound bite as GOSPEL!!!!

The MSM are predominant and everywhere! They are huge and will be for some time to come! Look at all the damage and brain washing they do !

For every Limbaugh and Hannity there are a THOUSAND liberal idiots from newspaper, online, network TV, Cable, and LOCAL TV parroting everything.

We cannot sit back and give up, and write off the MSM. We have to attack it and destroy it.

Look at how much easier our job would be if Americans got a semi balanced view right out of the gate?

Don’t say the MSM doesnt matter. They whipped our butts last election.

    Two points –

It’s only aquibble, but why do you call them “Secret” phone call sessions? It seems they’re not much of a secret at all.

    More important is —
“These Obama strategists think that making Rush the ?voice of the GOP? will drive away moderates and make the GOP seem to be leaning toward right-wing extremism.”

That is exactly what they’re doing, and it’s working. The minority of voters that think ditto of Rush seem immune to understanding the negative effect he has on the Republican Party. Thus Rahm and his buddies in the press push Rush as the de facto leader as another step toward marginalizing the party. Then Steele has to grovel for the leadership mantle that Rush and his white-bread followers don’t want Steele to have. A weakened Steele and strengthened Rush is good for Obama.

I give credit where credit is due — Rahm knows how to do the down and dirty mucking to forward his boss’ agenda. The Republicans can either cry and whine about it, or grow a set and go after him.

      • liberalrepublican

“My intent was not to go after Rush – I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh,” Steele said. “I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.”

?Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. ? including extensive freedom of thought and speech, limitations on the power of governments, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market or mixed economy,”

Umm.. you might want to rethink that. Where in anything liberals have done have they met any of these statements?

Quoting Norman Thomas, American Socialist Party: ?The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened.?

Now explain to us again how “liberalism” provides all that your tag says it does? History begs to differ so I’m curious how you come to that conclusion.

          • liberalrepublican

            Thomas Jefferson

          • http://www.werushdaily.com Steve Baetz

“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have.”

Which squarely falls on today’s “Liberalism”

“That government is best which governs least, because its people discipline themselves.”

Advice which liberals fail to adhere… because liberalism = socialism and requires total gov’t control… and last I checked, Jefferson’s views never reflected what would later become socialism.

One for good measure…. “Does the government fear us? Or do we fear the government? When the people fear the government, tyranny has found victory. The federal government is our servant, not our master!”

I think this is self-explanatory… so why do “liberals” who believe in all those things you list, want to dispense with the 2nd Amendment, and don’t say they don’t… they absolutely do… just ask anyone on the streets of NYC, Boston, or San Fran.

Getting off my soapbox now… LOL

          • liberalrepublican

?A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have.?

Bogus Jefferson quote. But I do agree with it.

Read my footer and tell me what you think Jefferson would object to.

          • http://www.werushdaily.com Steve Baetz

            Today… its something completely different…

“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” — Norman Thomas, American Socialist Party

            Who later stated in 1956..

“The Socialist Party will no longer be running a candidate for president. The Democratic Party is leading this country to Socialism much faster than we could ever hope to.”

And you are correct, the quote regarding big government was from Gerald Ford in 1974 in an address to Congress.

The LIBERAL thought that others should be FREE to do what they want with INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM, AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for any poor choices they make…. Today, Liberalism = INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM (Freedom to do what Liberals agree with, that is) WITH COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY to care for those that make poor choices with their Freedoms

I keep wondering why the activity of the White House is not being called abuse of power. A daily phone conference with a select group of so called journalists in the media to ‘stay on target’ politically seems to be a major absue of power and doesn’t belong in a Democracy. I expect it from the Russian leaders – - they’re quite familiar with controlling the press and it seems if they can’t they just murder them in the streets. Maybe since the New York times is tanking, they can ‘nationalize’ it. Then they would have an outlet without the mandatory phone calls from Emanuel.

Why isn’t the rest of the ‘journalist’ crowd screaming with outrage over this?

Rush Limbaugh scares them because he represents millions who do not have a voice or a President that believes in representing ALL the people, not just a select few. Obama has racially polarized this country, created economic chaos, and insulted 1/2 the population – - all within days of his inauguration. What next? Reparations I’m sure is in the near future along with continuing tax hikes, lost liberties for Americans and the dumbing down of the country.

    • Common_Cents

Any other talk that the MSM is weakening is hogwash.

  • http://www.werushdaily.com Steve Baetz

I am not surprised in the slightest at the flailing efforts of Rahm Emanuel, Steffie, The Forehead, and the Ragin’ Cajun Poboy. We all know that the media is absolutely partisan when it comes to the Democrats. They don’t do news anymore… the term is Propaganda. “Ferrously” Ironic though it is… Rahm Emanuel reminds me of Joseph Goebbels. Especially, with conference calls to the media networks to combat what in his mind is damaging publicity.

However, keep in mind folks that CNN, PMSNBC, and ABC all have ratings in the toilet. At any given time, Fox News’ ratings surpass all of them COMBINED. They are desperately trying to combat the impact of what Limbaugh’s speech had when it was broadcast IN ITS ENTIRETY on the most watched news network in the country.

I think they have an uphill battle with this one, but we in the trenches need to keep the message going.

Should any informed person who has cast a “thinking vote” instead of a “voting for change” ballot be surprised!

Politics in Washington, in the name of the people, has been disgraceful for so long, that some have become indifferent to the abuse pushed upon us in the name of change!

President “Strawman” Obama and “VP” Emanuel have brought the worst politics of Chicago to an already corrupt Washington, and it will only get worse.

Apparently the “congressional left wing socialists, the left media and the “K Street” crowd are approving this tactic now, has a means to reach the end. Controlling the media to push “their message and vision” upon the nation is not only dishonest, but dangerous and just the beginning.

Every day, Americans who watch the news and listen to the radio have to make a difficult decision has to the merits and truthfulness of every story and it’s meaning, they hear coming out of the left news outlets regarding our leaders and policy in Washington.

I will say again, this is a dishonest and a dangerous way to make policy change. Misinforming and being intellectually dishonest never servers the people of the nation well.

    Tougher times are coming!

Rage against the machine (congress), let your state and federal officials know how you feel via phone, fax or e-mail!

You will not get to talk with them personally and you will recieve a “party boiler plate response”, but it will let them know how you feel.

A voter must think, what makes an elected official vote to approve massive legislation or any legislation without reading, debating or understanding the full context of the bill?

If we continue to accept this as responsible government, we will be nothing more than “cash cows” to this President and the “Pelosites” of congress.

    MAY DAYS ARE COMING
    ” RAGE AGAINST CONGRESS” !
    ” RAGE AGAINST SOCIALISM”

… IMO… It will eventually backfire on the Liberal MSM and the Democrats… It is not Rush that will get through to these folks, but us as friends, neighbors, etc, as long as we are unashamed to speakup loud and proud and point out the Spin the MSM and ObamaBinBiden are putting forth…. To expose the continued (from campaign) double-speak and out-and-out lying (now direct from WH Press Conferences)… etc….
