Bowing to Kings, Bowed By Pirates, Obama Shows His Weakness

Obama is allowing the French to show him up and the pirates to beat him up. His "America Sucks" tour of Europe is fully realized.

As Obama bows in supplication before a Saudi King then tries to spin his way out of his own actions, America is being humiliated by whelps at sea. He was just leaning, we’re told, not bowing. It was because the Saudi King is short or so goes the White House spin. But the Queen of England is even shorter than the Saudi King and there was no royal navel gazing from Obama in England! Obama failed that test, indeed.

To be sure, Barack Obama is being tested just like Joe Biden said he would. But those testing him are not the sort of big state actors that Biden imagined would task the new president. They are low-tech, low-rent, unorganized pirates, not heads of state of great and dangerous nations. And this fact, that it is mere pirates testing him, is an even bigger slap in the face than it would be if it were a powerful nation or two testing President Obama.

And worse, these skinny, underfed, unorganized and ill-equipped pirates are making a fool of what is ostensibly the most powerful man in the world. And it is about to get worse if Obama allows the U.S. Navy to stand idly by as more pirates come to the scene of the standoff to float in solidarity with the four fellows holding captain Philips in that disabled power boat.

Obama has already allowed the Navy to miss one opportunity to end this standoff. Captain Richard Phillips made an escape attempt by jumping overboard and trying to make a swim for the U.S. Navy ship floating nearby. This was an ideal time for the Navy to blast the boat to pieces while the captain was in the water. The Navy could then have scooped up all five with ease. But instead, the Navy sat and did nothing as the pirates jumped into the water and dragged the captain back aboard.

Now reports have it that another pirate ship is headed to the scene to aid their four stranded comrades. Word also has it that they have other hostages in the ship with them. As it stands right now, the U.S. Navy has one hostage under its watchful eye. But soon it may have dozens to worry about.

If Obama does not task the Navy to end this situation before more pirate ships filled with more hostages get to the scene, it will be a tangle impossible to end without the loss of many hostage’s lives. The French already ended one such stand off and it did cost the life of one hostage, though others were freed. But end it they did, nonetheless.

But isn’t that the worst part of it? While Obama idly sits at the picnic table watching his kids play in the White House yard the French Navy has acted. Here we have what is supposed to be the most powerful man in the world doing nothing while the French… THE FRENCH… use proper military force against these criminal pirates.

Obama is being tested from the most unlikely of sources. He is failing that test and showing the world that his “America Sucks” tour of Europe was not mere glad-handing boilerplate. Obama is proving that he means to defang the most powerful nation in the world. Obama apparently intends to hobble the United States of America. If this is not the case, he’d better step up to the plate and end this pirate outrage quickly.

Not his job

He said the Navy and the FBI are handling it.

Of course, that attitude completely ignores the fact that HE is the head of both the Navy and the FBI. This guy has no idea about leadership or command responsbility. It’s always someone else’s job and someone else’s fault.

If GW Bush had been president and the al qaeda pirates attacked an American ship? Oh wait, they wouldn’t dare attack an American ship, or else Bush would have killed them all.

What a difference administrations make, one run a sniveling little naive idiot, the other a real man.

Just odd that the pirates didn’t attack for years, and now twice in three months. What’s next in our newly rediscovered 9/10 worldview.

HEY MR. PRESIDENT! MANY TIMES IN THE PAST our ALLIES have looked to US to be the LEADER in things like this THIS! An American-flagged ship is U.S. TERRITORY! It’s only 4 PIRATES (for now)! You’re COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF for crying out loud! ISSUE some ORDERS to STOP THIS! Heck, ASK the FRENCH for advice if you don’t know what to do! (the French indeed, Warner)

I have to agree partly with NeoKong in an above post: For the first time in my adult lifetime I’m really ashamed of my country. For me there was one other: the lack of adequate response to the ‘93 WTC bombing.

I never thought we’d have a president more pathetic than Clinton in responding to an attack on our own soil, or ship.

David Hinz Saturday, April 11th at 9:13AM EDT (link)

The most pathetic act of impotence in the history of the White House was the response of President Jimmy Carter to the Iranian Hostage situation. After allowing the US EMBASSY — talk about US TERRITORY — to be overrun by terrorists, and the American citizens to be taken hostage, the US talked diplomatically to them for 444 days — more than an entire YEAR, with nothing to show for it. We betrayed our friend, the Shah of Iran, admittedly not the finest world leader, but a friend of the US nonetheless. And we demonstrated for the entire world that the US was a paper tiger, incapable of even mounting a rescue mission to save our own citizens.

You're right, of course, David

TNJim Saturday, April 11th at 11:43AM EDT (link)

The only reason I didn’t include that was that at the time I was (man, this is embarassing) a Carter supporter. I actually voted for that dolt in 1980. It was Reagan that turned me into a Republican first and a Conservative later. I say a conservative later because even after Reagan I tended to vote for both Dems and Reps, you know, the old “best guy I thought would do the job” dodge. By the time the Clinton years came to a close I finally began to see what a hold the far-left was getting on the Democrat party and didn’t like that one bit. Now I try to seek out the most Conservative candidates I can and vote for them. Now, you have to watch out for the RINO’s, but having said that I still feel the country’s better off with Republicans in the majority than liberal Democrats.

If only more of them were conservative Republicans.

So, yeah, in hindsight I guess I should include the Iranian hostage crisis in the above comment of mine. Yes, it did start me wondering just why I was supporting a guy like Carter. Guess I was a slow learner back then.

No more.

“No. You can’t” -Moe Lane

Truly this IS the second Carter administration

Next93 Saturday, April 11th at 9:04PM EDT (link)

Maybe the Obamassiah will confine himself to the White House until the hostage is freed, to echo Carter’s defiant act of impotence.

As far as being ashamed of my country, how about these examples:
- Somalia (18 dead Americans, nearly a thousand dead hostiles, America’s response is to tuck it’s tail in and run away)

- Fall of Saigon (US ignored treaty obligations to support South Vietnam against any attacks from the Viet Cong).

Let's Look At History

66lotuscortina Saturday, April 11th at 3:52AM EDT (link)

During the French and Indian War Colonel Armstrong marched on Kittanning, Pa, to take it to the French but more importantly to recover English prisoners. Sure mistakes were made in tactics but the mission was successfull. One will find the basic strategy in numerous encounters back then; position yourself and at dawn attack. I don’t know how far the American destroyer is positioned from the boat holding the captain, but it is inconceivable that there are not four sharpshooters on the destroyer…they don’t even have to be sharpshooters, at dawn put the four pirates out of their misery and the captain can row the boat to the destroyer. Yes, it might not be PC but let’s quit beating around the bush.

You know you’re getting older when you live long enough to see styles and fads come back! Let’s see now: Russia acting up, Iran acting up, a President who spends his time apologizing to everyone and socializing everything and embarrassing hostage standoffs?

Q: So what do you get when you elect a naive rookie who was marinated in left-wing politics with no administrative experience, zero foreign policy experience and no training in military affairs as President?

A: An embarrassing 4+ day standoff between 4 thugs in a dinghy and our multi-trillion dollar navy.

Mark my words: Now that the world has seen Obama’s true colors, there will be more and bolder (and deadlier) acts like these over the next four years.

Why Should Anyone Be Surprised?

papalee Saturday, April 11th at 9:41AM EDT (link)

Was there anything in his history which indicated that he had ever really had to stand up and be a man? Just ‘a man,’ who was capable of taking real responsibility for anything–I didn’t find it there, but perhaps I missed something.

The real wimps in this who are going to have to pay are those who voted for Bush in ‘04 but could not bring themselves to vote for McCain. They are the ones who are responsible for what we are going to suffer through for the next four years.

The whole situation reminds me of a demonstration on the steps of City Hall in San Francisco when a bunch of black ‘boys’ chanted “We don’t have to study;; we don’t have to work. They gonna give us dese jobs.” We don’t know if he worked or studied, but we, the American people a a whole, gave him the job and we shouldn’t be surprised that he doesn’t know what real work, real dealing with the situation at hand actually is.

And it is going to get worse - much worse because we don’t have anyone or anything capable of dealing with the situation. The admirals and generals are not going to show up at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and deal with the situation and the Democratic majority in Congress will let it run until the country is in ruins and too many of us are dead. And I do mean ‘dead.’

Said this before; see nothing to change...

Paul_In_Houston Saturday, April 11th at 11:46AM EDT (link)

On Election Day, the Ace of Spades website posted a picture of two Iraqi women, with purple-stained fingers showing they had voted in an election.

It was a “Get Out The Vote” message, noting that whatever inconveniences YOU may experience by voting, “These women literally risked their lives to vote”.

My first reaction was, “And THE ONE can hardly wait to sell them out”.

Obama’s rhetoric on Iraq, and comments about Israel, showed a casual willingness to sell out allies when convenient.

A commenter asked, “Who appointed us to be their guardians? Why is it America’s job to make sure they are safe?”

Perhaps we’d rather not have the entire world as a nuclear-armed camp, figuring that the more countries with these things, the more risk that some will eventually be used.

Our alliances with these countries ain’t out of the goodness of our heart, but for our own best interests. Sell one out, and I’ll bet you the others will sure take notice.

The commenter seemed to be saying, “To hell with them; let them take care of themselves!”

Ok! But, they might do exactly that, and we might be less than thrilled with the results.

If countries under threat (Taiwan, South Korea, Japan) think that our word is no longer any good, they’ll almost certainly feel the need for nuclear arms as the only real deterrent to someone like China. And note, those countries ALL have the necessary economic, industrial and technical wherewithal to go nuclear. All they need do is make the decision.

Others, in the Middle East will want them to deter Iran. How about Saudi Arabia and Egypt? Maybe Libya decides that abandoning their efforts was a mistake. THOSE countries may lack the technology, but they can certainly afford to finance it.

It could just go on and on.

THAT could be a very likely consequence of us deciding to just disengage ourselves from these countries.

We’ve tried, for a long time, to convince others that they didn’t need them, because WE would provide the nuclear umbrella.

When they figure they can’t count on us, the whole thing unravels.

If the commenter gets his wish, and they DO take care of themselves, it could get real interesting for us as well.

As we also reside on the same planet, I think it almost impossible we would remain unaffected.

So, standing up for our allies is not just a nice thing to do; it makes the hardest kind of common sense.

Simply put, we protect others in order to protect ourselves.

Abandoning them, selling them out, would be an unbelievably short-sighted (as in STUPID) thing to do, and would hurt us more in the long run. No one would trust an agreement with us; and why should they, given such a record?

Instead of being worth a damn, our word would only be noise.

And that would be tragic, because WE set its’ value, by our actions.

Coward Obama: Remove Your Flag Lapel Pin

Ron Robinson Saturday, April 11th at 3:45PM EDT (link)

When Obama learned that his refusal to wear our flag on his lapel might threaten his election, like a coward, he sought the protection of that US flag by pinning it on his lapel.

Now he refuses to grant the protection of that flag to every US Citizen by doing nothing about the situation in the Indian Ocean.

We should be demanding that Obama remove his flag pin until he resolves the crisis in the Indian Ocean.

Coward Obama should not be allowed to wear the US flag unless he shows he is willing to extend the protection of that flag to every US traveler expecting safe passage on the high seas.

Make it clear that if the pirates harm thier hostage, they will be killed on the spot, thier remains stuffed into a 50-gallon drum of bacon grease, and dropped overboard. If they don’t harm him, they get to spend the rest of thier lives in a nice, cushy American prison (which beats hell out of a palace in Mogadishu).

Then send the navy in to pick up that boat. If the captain dies, he dies at the hands of his captors.

Hey, now that I’m one of Barak’s ‘advisors’, does that mean I don’t have to pay my taxes?
