*The* biggest mistakes conservatives make with the media is allowing them to frame the issue by framing the question. That always leads to ‘so, are you still beating your wife” type of questions.
My new criteria for GOP political wannabes is “Do you attack the very premise of the questions and refuse to let your interviewer sail past objections with stale, hackneyed, talking points.”
Condi, and Liz Cheney, have both recently demonstrated how to do that firmly but with class.

Dencal26 Friday, May 1st at 11:18AM EST (link)WW2 many tough decisions were made to save British and American lives.
1) Interment of Japanese Americans
2) Firebombing of Dresden where over 100,000 civilians died
3) Dropping Atomic Bombs on Japanese Civilians

“We sleep soundly in our beds only because
rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence upon those who would do us harmDear Leader Obama gives us leave to do so.”Japanese American Internment was a mistake
lonebeagle Friday, May 1st at 12:39PM EST (link)It didn’t save a single American life and there wasn’t a single Japanese American who did anything against America. That’s a fact.
The spies that were caught during the war working for Japan were all non-Japanese.
There was no mass internment of Japanese Americans in Hawaii which is where you would expect it would needed the most.
My dad was a Japanese American sergeant in the U.S. Army infantry in California and was guarding the west coast during the winter of ’41-’42 along with many other Japanese American soldiers. His family was placed in an internment camp while he was walking around with his Thompson submachine gun outside.
He later fought in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and came home with 3 bronze stars, 2 Presidential Unit Citations and 2 Purple Hearts. Most of his best friends were killed in Italy and France. They fought hard because they had to prove their loyalty to America.
FDR was a complete idiot along with lots of other people including Earl Warren.
BTW, the bombing of German civilians was largely not effective in shortening the war. The RAF lost even more bomber crews than the US. The targeting of German strategic targets by daylight “precision” bombing did make a substantial difference but only torwards the latter part of the war. It was a stupid waste of thousands of RAF bomber crews since all they did was get shot down.
Internment wasn't a mistake.

It was caused by fear and racism...
lonebeagle Friday, May 1st at 8:52PM EST (link)It’s a myth that the reason why Japanese Americans were interned was because of economic reasons (eg, confiscate their land, etc). Much research has been done on this topic and it’s been shown that JA farmers only owned a tiny fraction of the farmland in Californi. And much of the farmland and property was located in undesirable areas (since that was the cheapest land that nobody wanted).
My dad’s family had a 10 acre truck farm and they didn’t lose their farm during the war. They rented it out and even though the taxes weren’t paid on the land while my dad’s family was interned, they didn’t lose their farm (they had a boatload of back taxes to pay with penalties, though).
Before December 7th there was deep anti-Japanese sentiments on the west coast. Most of the political leaders of the time, and a large proportion of the press, business leaders, community and civic organizations all believed that Japanese immigrants and their children could never become “real” Americans. The idea that persons of Japanese ancestry could assimilate was not something that most people believed at the time.
After the bombing of Pearl Harbor there was genuine fear on the west coast that the Japanese were going to attack. When you add real fear together with real racism (not the phony type the left is concocting about Obama), then you can end up with an ugly result.
Of course lots of Americans knew nothing about Japanese Americans or the internment camps (the government did not publicize the removal), and so Japanese Americans that left the “relocation” centers during the war for the midwest or east coast did not find any racial animosity. And, of course, after the war when Japanese Americans returned to their homes on the west coast the government promoted the patriotism of Japanese Americans by telling everyone about the exploits of the 442nd.
The ironic thing out of all of this is that Japanese Americans are the most assimilated racial minority group in America. Assimilation was never considered not a option for the Issei (first generation) or Nisei (second generation like by parents). The success of Japanese Americans in American society is the classic American success story.
But what happened during the war was just plain unfortunate. When 9/11 occurred, President GW Bush said right after the attack that the government would not make the same mistakes that FDR made after Pearl Harbor (ie, target or scapegoat any group or groups).
I’m very proud of how President Bush and company ran the War on Terror. Those that make the claim that we were repeating the mistakes of WW II are just plain wrong (Gitmo = WRA Internment Camps, etc).

Back to the Rice video, off the cuff, granted, but I’m not particularly satisfied with her response:

Is that how it works? It smells of “when the president does it, that means it’s not illegal,” a justification I refuse to entertain. I expected better from her.

However, I’ve always found this trait to be far more acute among the liberal leaning college students. That’s generally the result of never having their views challenged by authority figures on campus.

Without this clarification, it sounds like she’s saying, “the President said it, so it must be true!”

Section9 Friday, May 1st at 8:05PM EST (link)Unfortunately, because the Obama Administration has released the “Torture” memos to distract Americans from the fact that it is in the back pocket of Soros and the Banksters, I suspect Rice will have to speak out more to defend both her reputation and her personal honor.
She has never had to do this. A lot of her personal friends just happen to be Democrats. She will find out just how few of them remain.
She made a lot of enemies on this board. The good things about her: she never leaked, and she stood by Bush to the end. Oh, her stand on the Second Amendment is second to none, fyi.

Condi on "greatest threat"....
lonebeagle Friday, May 1st at 8:31PM EST (link)That stupid kid said that Nazi Germany was the greatest threat that this country had ever faced, etc etc. And Condi smacked him down by saying that the Germans NEVER ATTACKED AMERICA!
That little fact has been overlooked by the entire post-World War II generation. Condi was getting ready to remind the idiot that the Soviet Union was poised to completely annihilate America for decades–something that the Nazis were never in a position, or desire, to do.
The liberal left has constructed a myth about World War II and the Nazis (the Nazis being the WORST scourge in history), while giving a pass to the even more evil and dangerous Communists of the Soviet Union.
Many young Americans also incorrectly believe that the German Army were all Nazis–this, of course, is incorrect. I’m not in any way trying to minimize the menace of Nazi Germany during the war (my dad came home all shot up fighting the Germans), but this lunacy of the left in regards to the Nazis and Communists is just ridiculous.
