A Little Article in a Little Paper that is One Big Hit!

It's all about those campaign promises with expiration dates.

Elizabeth Sauls is a writer for the Beaufort Observer of Beaufort, North Carolina. It’s a little paper in a little town — area population around 50,000 — so it’s just the sort of town that New Yorkers or Chicagoans like to scoff at. But, Elizabeth Sauls wrote a piece that everyone should read.

Headlined, “Presidential Sleight of Hand Keeps Reporter Befuddled,” Sauls lays out with just the right amount of sarcasm, the lies, contradictions, misdirections, and un-American policies that Obama has haplessly stumbled into these last 100 days.

Presented as a letter to her “boss” Sauls is devastating in her critical attitude against all the lies of this president.

I’ll give you just a bit of flavor from the piece, but you really should go read it yourself.

I know I had promised the article you assigned this week but I have all but given up on writing it.

You see, I planned to write more about Obama’s search for housing for Guantanamo detainees. But, before I could get my computer booted up, Obama changed his mind and decided, rather than simply releasing them as he had said in his campaigning days, he would instead allow military tribunals for them and see how that goes. Ok, so I switched gears and started to write about that. He said one thing when campaigning; he does another when he gets to the White House.

The piece is also replete with numerous links to other stories so that you can find more information on the points that Sauls discusses in her hard hitting piece.

In any case Sauls’ piece is great, it is worth a read.

(edit to correct the state the paper is from)

    said this:

“Spot on article….NOW…when will the rest of the presstitutes join in on the truth that Obama is playing the oldes of all scams…the shell game…WHILE WE ARE LOOKING OVER HERE HE SLIDES SOMETHING IN OVER THERE AND YOU ARE FOOLED ONCE AGAIN…..”

Presstitutes… That’s my new name for the MSM! :)

Thanks for linking to it so we can read the whole thing. Elizabeth Sauls is a brave writer and the editors at the Beaufort Observer are brave as well. Now they never be called on for a question at one of Obama’s love-fest press conferences.

The MSM is so busy kissing up to Obama that they forget they have a duty to report more than People-style news.

I watched a former joke-writer for Jay Leno on Bill O’Reilly last night insist that Obama had done nothing funny enough to deserve a joke being written about it. He said that with a straight face… over and over.

Maybe he should start with Elizabeth Saul’s article and then consider the Statue of Liberty/Air Force One photo op. “Cinco de Cuatro” is also kind of funny for a president who recently chided Americans for not bothering to learn languages other than English. (For the record, I also speak Nihongo [Japanese]).

Just as this joker can see nothing funny about Obama, journalists in the MSM can see nothing wrong with any of Obama’s actions or policies, even those that change week to week.

    • red4ever

The guy said stupid is funnier than arrogance so that is why there were more Bush jokes. I then started listed all the stupid things Obama did from the minute he was sworn in.

  • deevee

    As good as it gets.

Beaufort is in Carteret County, and it’s located on the Crystal Coast between between Morehead City and Harker’s Island.

The population of Beaufort is approximately 4,000.

Beaufort probably doesn’t even rate a “scoff” in liberal circles, but it may generate an eye-roll.

They do hate America so much after all. They tolerate big cities because big cities are immigrant magnets, so they get to call themselves ‘cosmopolitans.’

Remember the big stink lefty reporters made about having to go to Crawford?

        And, the fishing….

The Beaufort Observer is named after Beaufort County, North Carolina. Which is located on the Pamlico River, about twenty-miles east of Greenville, North Carolina.

      My bad.

  • daves_not_here

    Just a minor correction.

The Observer is headquartered in Washington, NC, a town of about 15,000. It covers a rural area of North Carolina. Not the Big City, like Beaufort, SC.

“The Beaufort Observer, Beaufort County Community News Source, Washington, Chocowinity, Aurora, Pinetown, Belhaven, Pantego, Pamlico, …”

to figure out what state they are in. They simply don’t put their city and state at the top of the front page online and often nowhere on the frontpage. Its as if they want some kind of brand separate from their home city. TV news websites often do this as well.

I have written for newspapers for a decade and I laugh at how they rarely refer to the city even in the name, when they refer to their own employer.

      • daves_not_here

The sound of crickets from the MSM about this administration is deafening, leaving the field wide open for alternative news sources and new media to steal a march on the established pros.

The Beaufort Observer is an online newspaper, founded largely because the established newspaper for that area falls into the typical pattern of liberal news media: turning a blind eye to anything that doesn’t fit their agenda, and glossing over any facts that don’t tell their story.

With fewer resources and lower budgets, but also without the baggage of old media, alternative news sources have an opportunity, IMO, to take market share from there more established mainstream competition. At the very least, new media can exert market pressure on the old to force change.

To see what I’m talking about, go back to the Observer article and count the number of individual ads. Then navigate to theObserver’s mainstream local competitor, the Washington Daily News at http://www.wdnweb.com/ and count the ad(s).

Market influence. Still largely potential in this field, but it’s how change gets made in our society.

BTW, Elizabeth Sauls has several other articles on the Observer site. If you are interested try ‘Democrats Board the Love Train,
Embrace Your Inner “No”‘ at http://www.beaufortobserver.net/Articles-c-2009-05-01-234112.112112_The_First_100_Days_of_the_Obama_Administration.html
        or ‘National Prayer Day (Don’t)
If Obama refuses to see you, are you still there?’ on the editorial page.

        • Mike gamecock DeVine

so many other newspapers online whether they are deeadtree as well or not fail to do this. I just wonder if anyone knows why?

I suspect it is this desire to be seen as some kind of national brand or shame they all aren’t from NYC?

  • http://www.realityunwound.com realityunwound

then newspapers wouldn’t be like our personal liberties… dying a slow death.

  • ocleverone

I enclosed a quick note telling them I had found them on page with Elizabeth Sauls piece.

I said I was so impressed with her clarity, I wanted to make sure the sponsors knew and enclosed is a check, etc.

    • JadedByPolitics

BRILLIANT I will say again BRILLIANT idea to to something with their advertisers….I just donated to J and J’s Homeless Pets which satifies two things one to support that wonderful write up by Elizabeth and I love animals and donate to those organizations all the time!!! Thank you for the again BRILLIANT idea!

      • ocleverone

That is very kind of you.

I figure if the advertisers start getting donations (or businesses get more business from the area) it will go further than just internet comments and will encourage the editors to rethink how to get to their bottom $$ line. :-)

  • blooch

Commenter Maria goes right to the crux of the problem, doesn’t she? Elizabeth Sauls probably favors secession, too.

    • Warrior

I’m trying to “relax” too, as Maria suggests. Also, commenter Paul cries “misinformation!”

Typical. If the Great O gets criticized, simply accuse the critics of LIES and RACISM! That meme has been old a long time now.

BTW, do you know how to recommend this (RS) piece? (I didn’t see a RECOMMEND button.)

      • blooch

I go to “Help” and it says this:

“Why don?t I see the ?Recommend This Diary? button?
The button is now located under the title block of posts. If you do not see
it, it is because (A) you are not logged in or (B) you are looking at your own
diary post. You are unable to recommend your own diary.”

I don’t see it either, so there must be a York Rite or something now for Reco privileges. Perhaps Neil or some other Elder of RS can illuminate.

          • Warrior

but what is a “front page article”? Why is it differnt from a diary and how can you tell?

          • itrytobenice

There are a page of articles right there. Those are front pagers and only people with front page privileges and promoted diaries are there.

On the right hand side, there is a list of recommended diaries that are not front pagers and that have been recommended by other members. Beneath that is a list of all recent member diaries (some of which belong on the recommended list but sometimes slip under the radar). A person with time to look really needs to look in all areas to get the goodies of the day.

would be nice – perhaps issuing a 10 day site suspension of the User on some offences BUT it is hard to enforce rules when the others break the rules (Short diaries [at times a Diary can be Short yet have facts, link references, and create a good long discussion - the trouble is some folks not recognizing the difference in how/whether they are created], 10,000 diaries on the same topic including several separate ones only hours apart from the same authors, etc…) to be enforced right on the FP!!!!! The people learn by the bad examples they sometimes see there!!!

In case someone comes through here that hasn’t yet done so – look over ALL of the related (new and old) RS:Help files – including the one in there about Exceptions To Rules and who can make them (if you haven’t been here forever, it ain’t you)!

          • Warrior

Man, I’d love nothing more than to read redstate all day. It is an abundance of riches.

Alas, having to earn a living, I’m relegated to snippets here and there.

If Obama doesn’t spend too much more money, I might could retire when I’m 70…but I won’t hold my breath…

      • http://www.ssce.net/Web-Articles/Web-articles-indexed-authors.html#authors-l JLenardDetroit

Front Page (FP) Diaries are those that you immediately see when you go to the sites Main Link (Front Page / FP)…. FP Diaries do not show the recommend button because they are already prominently visible by being on the FP and don’t need recommendations (RECOs) to help get them noticed. RECO votes are tabulated and the ones with most RECOs go to the FP “Recommended Diaries” list on the right side of the FP (as itry has already side – I won’t repeat the other things he pointed out ;-) )

Take Care – again, you may wish to review the RS:Help files for all the ins and outs, definitions, etc….
